Great Technical Down Jacket

- I'm 6'1" 200 lb and have a football build, the Large fits me well. - I've had this jacket in 35 degree weather w/ 15-20 mph winds and felt comfortable with just a base and midlayer underneath. I would say the jacket is pretty windproof. - I love features of this jacket which separate it from other down jackets: the lined pockets, the added internal pockets, the waterproof/durable shoulders. All these things come in handy in the back country. -The one "downside" to this jacket is it's technical look. To me, its not a "fashion piece" that I would wear in public or use as a daily driver. But then again, that's not really what I bought it for.

warm and lightweight down puffy

Keeps me warm in -5 to 5 C temps. It kept me dry in light drizzle. I like the lightweight feature of the jacket so it doesn't drag me down. It probably works best in dry conditions where you are not super active like a short walk or lounging about. It did keep some fierce wind out when walking near the ocean and the tightening feature of the hood helped keep the wind out. After the first wash though, I did notice some small feathers coming out and have noticed a feather sticking out from the back after about 10 or so times wearing it. If you can get this jacket with discounts I think it is worth it if you are looking for a lightweight puffy.

Overall all solid, would like different cuffs/neck

I really like this coat, but since I think about a couple drawbacks every time I wear it, I feel like 3-stars is the right rating. I'd love to see the following improvements: 1. Velcro cuffs instead of the elastic rings. Longer cuffs. My wrists are always cold when I wear this coat. Would love velcro cuffs like on the alpine parka. 2. Higher coverage around the face, as in extended mouth and cheek coverage for those windy days when you want to tuck your face to stay warm. Overall really like the warmth and fit of the coat, and waterproof fabric on the shoulders and hood are sweet. Could see making a full insulated/waterproof coat out of that fabric.

MY NEW FAVORITE COAT

This is a very comfortable and lightweight Hoodie/Jacket. I normally wear an XL, but have learned from past OR purchases to buy one size larger and this one was no different. The XXL fit perfect and on cold morning hikes, has been keeping me nice and toasty. The coldest weather I've been in so far has only been mid 40's, so I'm not sure how warm this thing really is. On a recent trip, I was able to stuff the whole coat into one of the inside pockets making it very packable into a small space. There are many roomy pockets to carry anything I need I do get a lot of compliments on it. I tell everyone "it's like wearing a down sleeping bag...but better"

Good jacket, but arms are absurdly bulky

Jacket is well made, warm, and cut fairly slim. However, the arms of the jacket are so wide that i could fit 2 (or maybe 3) of my arms in it. They look pretty ridiculous. I'm 6'1 and about 200 pounds and I bought a size large and the arms are just bafflingly wide. This also causes fabric to bunch unnecessarily where the arm meets the shoulder, in both the front and back, creating a rather sloppy fit there. In the body, it's slim without being tight and the perfect length. I compared it to a Mountain Hardwear ghostwhisperer and the arms are probably 3 inches wider. I just can't understand what exactly they hoped to achieve with that...

Great warm, light jacket.

This jacket is great, performs similarly to other high quality down jackets I have owned. It is light, pack up well, and is surprisingly durable. It does actually have a little bit of waterproofness as well. I've used it hunting, and it is not to bad for noise, which can sometimes be a problem for these jackets. The only complaint I have, which is not about performance, is the color. I have the silver/black one, and it is a bit shinier than I expected. I was hoping for a flatter color. I have seen the loden/black jacket as well, and that was a bit flatter, more to my liking. Overall, great jacket, great performance, just not the biggest fan of the color.

Great product with one issue

Great product, the down provides just enough warmth for those slightly colder days while in the field. in fact I had to take it off while hiking up a mountain and then put it back on closer to the summit. That being said if you need somthing that will really keep you warm on those extra cold days the cold front hoodie is probably better suited. the quality of this jacket is excellent and does everything it claims to do. My only issue is it runs small from my perspective. I'm 5'5 185 lbs, it feels a little tighter then I'd like.

Used this on a fall hiking trip (bashful peak September 18/2022) morning temps mid 30s-low 40s. Completely warm with t shirt underneath while getting packed. Packed down well enough to fit in a small day pack with climbing gear and water, I gave it the 4 stars since it doesn't seem to be lofty enough for warmth in the -10 to 20 range but I'll edit this winter after some use. Fit is as expected and the material is water resistant enough for light sprinkle but anything more it begins to fail but thats to be expected with a light weight puffy. Huge fan of the added durability on the shoulders and hood areas. 6'1" 185lbs size L

Just one heck of a great jacket

Went with the OR Helium Down after a lot of research and comparing to other similar jackets. I am very happy with the decision. This jacket is versatile for all my winter sports (hiking, camping, backcountry skiing, climbing) and looks hella fresh for just walking around town and grabbing beers. It's warm and the build quality is there for sure. Big fan of the reinforced hood and shoulders. My only nit-pick complaint is that I thought it would have more down filler as it doesn't seem super lofty. It hasn't compromised on warmth yet - so far I've only been in -5C and warmer. Keeps me happy with just a t-shirt on underneath.

Another top notch OR product

I had an Arc'Teryx puffy for several years prior and, while it was a great product, this one is nearly as good and is priced WAAAYYYY better, even at full retail price. That, and a couple features that are unique to the Helium stand out: the higher denier rated shoulders and hood are an excellent feature (this is where the majority of tech tape patches are needed in my experience), the stuff pockets on the inside of the jacket are sweet, and the drawcord hem make for a top notch puffy. I'm 6'3", 215lbs and the XL is a perfect fit - snug enough to wear solo without the jacket feeling bulky, but roomy enough for another couple layers if it's extra cold out there.
