These shoes are lightweight and comfortable and provide great support and water resistance. I wore these straight out of the box on a snowy 10 mile hike and my feet stayed warm, dry, and blister free the entire time. Great traction on the up and downhills. Can’t wait to wear them on more hikes!
I tested these shoes out on a dry rocky trail in Southern California hoping they could serve as a lighterweight option to my Quest 4s. But as I navigated various elevation changes with loose gravel and dirt the grip wasn't strong enough and I slipped multiple times and even fell once. Overall the shoes are comfortable and I initially liked them, but with the lack of grip, I wouldn't recommend them especially if you're in wet conditions or unsure of your footing. Also, I found the tongue of the shoe a bit hard to close, and depending on the weather, it may be challenging to keep your feet dry. Considering how expensive these are it's a bummer they're more like a walking shoe.
Hi, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We always strive to improve! Your feedback has been helpful for us!
I didn't find I needed any time to break these hiking boots in! I bought these recently and have been on a few hikes already ranging from 4 to 10 miles and they are very comfortable. They have great traction and good ankle support while still offering some flexibility (I don't like my hiking boots to be very stiff around the ankle). With all hiking boots, the way you tie the laces can impact the comfortability and I found that I have to tie these pretty tight so that the tongue isn't irritating (even with long hiking socks on), but it was a quick fix! I would definitely recommend these.
Just took these awesome new hiking shoes on a 3-day backcountry camping trip, and they were fantastic! The grip was solid on dry, uphill trails, and they kept my feet dry when crossing small creeks. The upper lock for the laces is genius—it keeps them snug right around the ankle. Only downside is the laces tend to come undone a little too easily; however, this is always my issue whenever wearing sneakers/hiking shoes. // Overall, these shoes were a great choice. Plus! -no break-in time needed; I wore them straight out of the box on my hike!
I bought the Elixir Activ Mid Gore-Tex for a 6-day 52-mile hike in the Columbia River Gorge, OR. I barely broke them in but they were great. No blisters at all. They have a lot more cushion than the Outpulse which is why I choose this boot even though the Outpulse seemed to fit my feet a little better in shape form. One thing I think is missing is a second top hook for the laces. That would have been really nice for a snugger fit for rock scrambling at a 25 grade. Overall though, very happy with these.
These boots didn't need any breaking in and were comfortable from the first time wearing them. They keep my feet dry and are very supportive for my ankles. I gave a 4 stars because the only downside for me is that the tongue is attached inside, making them a bit tight over the top of the foot when putting them on. This limits the thickness of the socks that I can wear, so I will not be able to wear these boots in colder weather.
I’ve worn the speed cross for 10 years trail running. I have size 5-6 narrow feet. I figured the Salomon hikers would too be a narrow good fit. I slid inside of the shoe causing blisters on the top middle and back of my foot. The upper cuff bruised my Achilles. This shoe fits like a hoka which also was very wide. The sole did not hold up on rocky terrain. Expensive bummer test run for Teton terrain.
Hey, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We often adjust our products based on direct customer feedback. We will make sure to pass this along to our designers for consideration in future products.
I bought these to wear on a trip to Montana, expecting to wear them hiking then switch to my Brooks running shoes for indoor activities. These were so comfortable I wore them for everything! The lugs are a good size for hiking trails or walking in loose gravel, but aren't so large as to make walking on pavement uncomfortable. I love them! Will look into getting the low cut version for summer use.
This is my favorite pair of hiking shoes. I have taken these on two 5+ hour mountain hikes with no discomfort. I took them through waterways and rain/hail storms and my feet remained perfectly dry. I felt the traction was top tier and always felt secure and stable and I enjoyed the ankle support. There was absolutely no break-in period. I ordered a half size up and am very satisfied.
I was looking for something really cushioned and these do the job amazingly. They have helped me recover from tendon issues and get walking again. Grip surprisingly good and the gtx lining has held up in light rain and mud/puddles. Comfortable toe box with plenty of room and a narrowing middle/angle ankle sections which keeps my foot in securely. Love them.
