Poor Quality
After initial setup which appeared to go smoothly it kept restarting. I did a factory reset, it kept restarting. I did a firmware update and it kept restarting. It kept going from blue triangle screen to a weight screen and then to a black screen and then start over with the blue triangle. I did manage to capture my weight while on the weight screen but even that seemed awkward with the first digit on the display being messed up.
This scale is “WEIGH” Awesome!
I am an avid Garmin fan having worn their GPS sport watches for well over a decade and back when it looked like I had strapped a computer to my wrist. When the original Index scale came out I bought it and enjoyed its use (however there definitely were some tech glitches and issues with data sync). However the NEW Index S2 Scale has all of those issues resolved plus looks sleeker & has a crisper data screen read-out. My boyfriend and I use it daily and find the data to be extremely helpful with not only our health goals but just life in general since it even shows the outside temperature!
Potential, not executed well
Disappointed in the product, it has a hard time deciding who is who when you step on and then trying to toggle users does not work as well as it should. I think the body fat percentage is off a bit. It also changed the age of multiple users multiple times on their connect app, not sure if that is common. All in all pretty disappointed I was super pumped about using it for my whole family but seems like I need to either return or only use it for myself since it keeps changing my weight when my wife steps on ( she is 80 lbs lighter then me). I am a huge fan of Garmin watches and use it religiously, had high hopes for the scale, and disappointed.
If you love having Garmin Connect track your life, then you'll love this
It's a stylish, accurate scale that delivers on its ability to update your weight and a few other metrics. Once connected to my wifi, it has seamlessly uploaded these metrics to my Garmin Connect. This saves me a fair amount of hand-jamming. However the metrics it gives you come with a grain of salt. Know that the electric resistance method of measuring body fat% and the other things it claims to measure. The scale essentially cannot measure anything above your waist, so all the numbers it throws at you are really only good for trend analysis when doing something like gaining or losing weight. If you want an accurate measurement, find a lab.

Love the connect with Garmin app
Overall, the best part about this scale is that it connects with my Garmin app & the app takes into account all the activity that I'm doing, yielding info from my Garmin watch. However, I bought it because it said that there were unlimited profiles, but I should've read into that detail because profiles can only be setup for people who have a Garmin profile. I'm unfortunately not able to use it for my clients & as a Fitness Professional, that was going to be the main use for this scale. However, as a scale for me to use with my Garmin watch, it's great! Great info when you're a Garmin user, basic info when you're not (i.e. my husband uses it).
Loved the integration
I love how the Index Scale is automatically synchronized to Garmin Connect. I now track my weight/etc on a more consistent basis with goal to improve. I only have two complaints- 1- Garmin really should do a much better job letting people know that their Index Scale only works with 2G WiFi and not 5G! That would have saved me a LOT of wasted setup time. Ugh! 2- Activating the scale for each weigh-in should be more routine ….currently requires quite a bit of “toe tapping” to wake up the scale. Not a big deal…but frustrating it does not awaken by simply stepping on it. Other than those two complaints, I love the Garmin Index Scale.

Fine scale, but over priced and lacking extras
This scale works fine, it has been responsive and it gives all the expected data beyond weight, like BMI, % muscle mass, etc. The problem is it's a lot more expensive than other similar scales and doesn't include statistical comparisons, like where your stats are in comparison to others your age, which is maybe more of a Garmin app issue, but with this scale it's all about Garmin integration. As others have said, you buy this scale because you're in the Garmin universe and want that integration, so for that it meets expectations and you'll probably be happy with it, but when compared to other smart scales I've had it's not worth the price.
Body fat way off (I hope)
I love the looks, the connectivity, the ease of use and I’m confident the weight is correct. However, the algorithms or whatever it is they use for body fat percentage is wonky. I’m a fit 120 lb 5 foot 5 female who bikes and runs with plenty of intensity 8-12 hours a week currently. My body fat on the Garmin compared to an inexpensive body fat scale and a medical grade one used for health assessments is approximately 5-7% higher. Now I know I’m in my mid 40s and have plenty body fat but I think to be at the upper end of normal/lower end of obese is not accurate for my build or activity level. I’d like to know how that metric is calculated.
Wish it worked
I was able to get the scale to hook up to WiFi ONCE after several tries, but it didn’t transfer my one and only weigh in to my Garmin app. Offloaded the scale on my app and tried to reboot it and hook up again for several tries, three days in a row The scale did not hook up to WiFi again after that. Returned the scale within a week of getting it. I’m very disappointed about this because I was really looking forward to having all of my data on one app between all of my workouts and my body composition. I’ve always been happy with my Garmin watches, not sure why the scale lacks the technology to properly hook up the way it’s supposed to.
Seamlessly integrates with the Garmin Connect site
This scale connects via WiFi to the Garmin ecosystem as advertised. It makes tracking weight and its estimate of body fat painless. It does provide other estimates about the distribution of your weight: fat, muscle, bone and water and provides body fat % and BMI. I find the weight and % fat to be the most pertinent info for me. The rest doesn't change much. Interestingly, my dry bones (water content is part of the body water weight estimate) comprise only ~4% of my body weight. Other scales provide the essential information at a lower price point, but the seamless integration with my Garmin makes this worth the extra cost for me.
