Weak clasp
Purchased for a trip overseas. I wanted a waist bag that would hold my kindle as well as passport and money and it worked perfectly — for about a week, when a critical part of the clasp broke off. I had to tie it around my waist for the remainder of the trip.
Love the size!
I bought this fanny pack because of the size. It’s the first one I’ve owned that my wallet fits into with plenty of room for everything else, including my phone. I saw other reviews of people saying the straps don’t hold in place. At first, I had the same issue, so I tucked the ends under the rubber piece, & they remained. I wore this pack continuously dancing choreographed songs with a dance brigade, for the entire route of a Pride parade, & it remained in place, so it works.
My go to bag for just about everything.
It holds much more than I thought by looks. The inside pockets isolate essentials from getting lost or dirty. Meds, candy, bandaids, eyedrops, wipes. Very sturdy. The downsides. The straps keep coming loose, and I would love more colors. Something more visible so it’s not left behind. I will probably paint the next one.
AMAZING bag! Too bad the buckle clips are terrible
The bag is AMAZING! It was exactly what I was looking for: the bidirectional zippers, the pockets in the back, the size—everything about the bag is great. Then you get to the straps, and it all goes right down the drain. These buckles are TERRIBLE! I accidentally alter the length of the belt all the time when putting it on or taking it off because of how easily the buckles adjust on both straps. The plastic piece meant to manage the excess strap only stops it from hanging down, but it doesn't hold it in place. It slides around, and the belt constantly bunches up. I'm returning, cheap buckle.
Best hip pack ever! Not exaggerating
Let me start of by saying I am an amputee, one hand. If a bag or pack is too flimsy where I cannot unzip with one hand, I will not give it a chance. This one is perfect! It has two way zips on both of the outer pockets, which is amazing for me. I don’t need to do any tugging, because the zippers glide so easily and the pack is sturdy and not flimsy. For me, this is essential because then it would be useless. The organizational pockets are phenomenal, there are perfectly placed and each one is well thought out in terms of width and elasticity. The passed back hidden pocket is perfect for my phone and my wallet. The main compartment is roomy and the inner back pocket, and two slim divided pockets are perfect for my trinkets such as my tissues, mini knife, mini flashlight and chapstick, sanitizer, etc. Everything stays up right because the elastic is sturdy, my pet peeve is when an elastic pocket is so big and flimsy and one big hole! This is nowhere near that! The big inner main compartment is perfect for my sunglasses case, my portable charger and room for anything I might need to throw in there on a whim. The front pocket is for my keys. I freaking love this thing!! Please make it in a blue color! And don’t discontinue it, because good items are hard to come by for amputees or even people with arthritis, and physical limitations. This bag is perfect! Thank you REI! Oh, and I’m a bigger girl. The straps are size inclusive, they are comfy and the weight isn’t too heavy or bulky, it is perfect.
Sturdy, Well Designed Travel Bag
Purchased to use on a trip to Europe Pros: Fits well for a short, squat person (I wear a 2x-3x in REI clothing and this fit comfortably around my waist). I LOVE that REI is size inclusive. Loads of zippered pockets and internal organization in a small bag to securely store items Fits well as a sling so I can block any potential pickpockets with my arm Cons: The zipper tabs are tough cords which are durable but pretty pokey for the sensitive arm area. Wouldn't be an issue if I was wearing sleeves, but they are also tend to stick out everywhere giving it a frumpy look if you don't smooth them down. I plan on replacing these when I get the chance with something softer Nylon is very sturdy, but also a little scratchy. Doesn't keep it from being a great travel bag, but was a bit annoying to use during my sunny climate trip. Otherwise, it's a solid travel bag that will withstand a lot of abuse! Neither of the cons would have prevented me from purchasing this.
Best organization I found, very versatile
I have never found a hip sack with better organization for me than this one. * Zippered flat pocket on the back (towards the body) that holds my Samsung S21. * Convenient grab handle just above that. It's not too wide because it's folded and then stitched. Keeps it out of the way of that back pocket. * Center zip pocket has a divider with an elastic edge that stops it from flopping. I use it for cash and receipts. It would also hold my phone. Two slip pockets on top of that divider, plus plenty of room in the pocket for other items. *The 3rd (outermost) zip pocket has plenty of dimension and works as a catch-all. I use it for loose items that I don't think need organization, small hand lotion, lip balm, keys, breathing glasses, etc. The only way to improve this item would be to: 1. Make the waste strap more robust with an offset (not centered) buckle. It's rather narrow, I like the slippery lightweight seat belt type material which makes it an easy crossbody carry. I don't think it would wear as well as a waist pack. 2. Add some padding or some such to the pack material. It is very soft and flexible. But a little extra protection for the contents would be nice. Because of the way it's organized, I'm also going to give it a try as a toiletry bag. It's got plenty of room for travel-sized containers, regular toothbrush, comb, etc.
Just what I wanted.
I love this little piece of gear! I wanted a bag I could use as a cross-body bag and easily covert to a waist pack if I decided to take a longer walk. I usually use it as a cross-body bag. My wallet and AirPods go into the front zip pocket. Inside the main compartment I can put a small water bottle, snack bar, small notebook and pen. If I am going somewhere and expect to have some reading time, my Kindle fits nicely. The fabric is sturdy.
Fits more than expected because of front pocket
I got this bag for international travel -- spent approx 2 weeks away from home and this was my main personal item. It holds a lot more than I thought! The main compartment is roomy, but the most surprising compartment is the front zipper pocket! I carry around a small "cosmetic" bag that takes up half the space in the main compartment when I "stand" it on its side -- so I have room for a good size portable charger, a pocket sized book, a very thin notebook & pen, compressible bag, hand sanitizer and hand sanitizer. So--my jaw dropped when my JisuLife Pro1S fan (not the smallest fan) fit into the front pocket along with my trifold wallet, keys, and AirPods case. :O The bag didn't look overstuffed to the point of bursting or anything and I could if I needed to put more odds and ends into it if I needed. Basically, the front pocket has its own spacious volume/area that goes to the top of the bag basically. The internal organization is great with three internal pockets in the main compartment which held my passport sized notebook and portable charger well so I never lost it. I ended up keeping my passport in the main compartment's back pocket and my iphone13 in the externally accessible backpocket (FYI: when the bag is fully packed it can be a struggle to shove the phone in or pull it out, so sometimes I'd just stuff it into the main compartment). I got the burnt orange color so I'd hopefully reduce the chances of me accidentally leaving the bag behind in a rideshare or something (e.g. if it's black and I'm exiting a car at night). I knocked off one star because of the straps. They can be cumbersome and this is not that comfortable to wear cross-body style if you have to wear layers. I didn't feel comfortable wearing this cross-body without anything over my back because it's easy to undo the buckle and run off with the bag... so I actually wore it more like a under the shoulder handbag if I had to run out to do anything or jump into a car. I could wear it crossbody with the bag to my front if I had enough time to fidget with the straps... but on the go they were kinda more in the way than anything. I really like the pass thru for the straps when not in use. It's low profile/no fuss. The top handle is substantial and large enough to matter. It was super easy to just put this into a backpack and access it easily. I LOVE the zippers for the two main compartments having two zipper heads--I only got confused like once when I was in a hurry to open the bag. In the end I think it was worth the money and I'll keep it -- I was wondering before the trip started if it was a good purchase or not.
Great look, size - Major issues w belt
Recycled material in a beautiful chocolate brown, just like the image! Good size, lots of pockets, zippers slide easily enough. But the belt buckle and sliding belt end holders aren't as good as those on the older, cheaper bag that I'm trying to replace. The belt buckle is picky to thread when closing, and doesn't open easily single-handed behind my back. The holders have no grip, and aren't sewn onto the ends of the belt, so the holders immediately slide up to the buckle, leaving the ends to dangle. I'm disappointed. I expected the REI brand to stand for well-functioning gear at a moderate price point. I will only keep this waist pack if I decide to graft on the salvaged belt and buckle from the older waist pack, but really, should I have to go to all this extra time and effort just to make this pack work?
