Bought this because it was a great price, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at what a packable and strong bag it is. It is light enough to throw in your suitcase as a backup bag without adding extra weight, and it fits in an airline overhead bin perfectly. Fabric is thinner than some other popular bags out there, but thick enough that it’s not going to tear if you took it on a camping trip. I’m going to be a repeat buyer for more colors and sizes!
Great bag for the price. Main compartment is plenty of room for a week-long trip, and there's a small side pocket for quick access items. Handles are long enough to work as a backpack for emergency running through airports, but you wouldn't want to use them that way for long. (I'm also fairly small.) Other reviewers dislike that it has a separate bag to pack it in, but I find that to be a bonus little toiletry bag. Can't really think of why I would want to pack it up. Others have also commented on the lightweight fabric -- I wouldn't check it, but for carry on and car trips, it's just fine. I love that it has a cross-body shoulder strap, but said strap has zero padding. Add that, and it would be a perfect bag!
It's a solid duffel bag. Folds up into a nice little case (which I used to hold socks when the duffel was in active operation. My partner and I were flying together to one location and then splitting up for the return, so we shared a single large checked bag, with this lil duffel in there, and when we parted ways I was able to repack my things into the duffel. Pain in the neck to carry when it's full, but that's the way of duffels.
This is middle weight, medium to medium large. We purchased for car camping to keep from having cumbersome boxes and to pack a car more efficiently, it works well and the pattern makes it easy to find. With the middle weight material I would not use for checked airline baggage unless in a pinch and willing to accept the wear.
This bag is much roomier than expected. It can easily hold a yoga mat, 2 cork blocks, a strap and a blanket as well as a water bottle. It feels very well made. It would be nice if it stuffed into itself rather than the separate pouch but definitely not a deal breaker for us. Great product at a good price- the color was on sale too.
The fabric is great, and the zipper is solid; however, the shoulder strap is difficult to take off and difficult to put back on: I had to use pliers to pull the plastic end-piece of the shoulder strap through the bag’s fabric loop.
Roomy bag, easy to handle, fit under seat in front of me on trip to France, like the detail on outside of bag, easy to spot when getting luggage from the bus. Comes with a handy smaller bag.
Nice bag and great price, wish it had a few zippered pockets but cant beat this quality for the price!
This duffle is fantastic for weekend trips. I like the fabric very much. It seems like an extremely tough canvas, but it is not too heavy and doesn't take up a lot of space when empty. The zippers, straps, and handles all function well. It has a few loops that have been useful for fastening a water bottle with a carabiner, for instance.Super happy with this purchase!
We bought this duffel as new for a camping trip we're taking tomorrow. Unfortunately, when we arrived home to use it, we discovered someone else's luggage padlock (the TSA-approved sort of luggage lock) and, when we eventually got the lock off, dirt/sand inside. We're disappointed that REI is selling used items as new, but we don't have time to exchange it before our trip, so I guess we'll keep it. We've previously purchased a different version of this duffel and have been very happy with that previous purchase though, so this rating is a compromise between the two experiences.
