This is the perfect size for a fully packed 65L backpack and long sleeping pad (in my photos: Gregory Baltoro 65 and Therm-a-Rest Basecamp Large Sleeping Pad 25x77). The extra 40 liters makes a huge difference. I have and used the 100L when I flew to Chile to do the Patagonia O-Loop in Torres del Paine when a thick sleeping pad wasn't necessary. The 100L is too narrow to fit both items. The build quality of the 140 seems identical to my 100. Definitely a must-have in my opinion if you check-in your gear via commercial air travel.
I was looking for a large duffle I could fit all my and my girlfriend's camping gear in; tent, ridiculously large sleeping pads, and sleeping bags. This fit the bill. It was a tight fit, but I had no issues with the zipper, and it has been unpacked and restuffed a half dozen times so far with no issues. It is huuuuge, so make sure that is what you're looking for.
I love this bag because it fits my tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, picnic blanket, and a small table. I use the duffel bag stuff sack to store my tent lights and other smaller gear needed for the tent.
I’ve had this duffle for about 8 years now. It is primarily used to haul my families snowboarding gear for trips, both car and flights. Easily holds gear for 3. Boots, helmets, gloves, balaclavas, etc. a camelback, extra snow boots, jackets and pants. When flying, I secure the zippers with a key split ring for security. Last trip I had enough space left in the bag to stuff with dirty laundry. Great bag, durable, strong zippers, great for families.
Although I checked the dimensions of this product before getting it, I was surprised at just how big it is. I used this for a week-long trip to the beach and, after packing all of my clothes still had enough room to pack our beach towels and my son's bag inside the bag. This will likely be my new go-to bag for long family vacations. I also like that it comes in a small container and can be folded back up for storage in that container. The duffel bag seems to be well built and sturdy, although the material is not especially thick so I would think twice before using it as checked luggage in an airplane. The two handles and shoulder strap both worked well and didn't tear despite the bag being completely full.
Went on a 6 month road trip across the west coast with a couple of these and the 100L duffels. The material is a little thinner on the 140L but it's still very durable. The storage bag is also separate for this one so you can use it as a toiletry bag! Perfect for all our clothes.
I needed an inexpensive large duffel for travel and storing Arctic Gear in. This bag was perfect for that. The only short fall is the strap sucks, it has t-hooks that go into loops on the bag but they don’t stay in.
This is a great bag to use to hold a lot of gear for car camping, road trips. The size is big enough to hold a lot but not so big that once full it is too heavy to lift. The innovative square/box shape (vs. traditional tube/round) helps it fit more gear and packs into the car or car top box more easily. It also helps with loading internal contents. I really like that this bag packs into its own small bag which would make it great to bring on a trip as back up storage. The extra storage bag also is useful to hold small items within the larger bag. The side pocket is a nice bonus for items you need to find quickly. I also really like the removable shoulder strap which is helpful to carry the bag but could get in the way while packing in the car. That is easily solved by removing it and throwing it in the bag (or even the side pocket). Overall this is a good bag for what is designed for.
We had a trip exploring the Pacific Northwest and realized on our last day that we purchased too many souvenirs than we had space for in our bags. We went to REI and purchased this duffel for the trip home. It worked beautifully. Held up to airplane TSA treatment as well. I will take this with me on future trips as it folds down small even though it’s a huge bag. Money well spent.
When we travel as a family, my kids are always complaining that they're out of space for the return trip. This duffel bag saved the day! When compressed, it's small enough to easily fit into your luggage. But when you open it up, it's roomy and rugged. I ended up having all of my kids put their dirty clothes into the duffle throughout our trip, and then they were able to keep their own bags better organized. My only complaint about the duffel is that the shoulder strap could use a little more padding, but other than that, this worked great!
