While the midsole is good, the upper is bad, not true to size, no way to secure midfoot and ankle with lacing system, toes bump in the dowhill cause black toenails. Foot moves too much inside the shoe and gives no security in the downnill. Hoka should analyze the Salomon Slab genesis to make the perfect upper for this midsole, while also keeping the gaiter system that is pretty interesting. I had to sent them back for refund. Not worth the price. Bad use of high quaility material
Best Hoka trail shoe. Gaiter works flawlessly and is super comfortable with lace system. No need to adjust laces mid-run. Fit feels perfect with no tightness from laces against sock like gaiter. Carbon plate has amazing energy return and reduces fatigue. Tread has been holding up great with 300+ miles. Shoe seems super durable on rocky trails. I was hesitant on price at first but based on performance and durability I think it's worth it. Sizing is true to size and breaks in perfectly after a couple runs.
Best shoes ever! Right out the box, I did a 15 mile 3.8k elevation hike that had various terrain for me to test the carbon fiber plates. I truly did not feel any of the terrain that protruded out that I was intentionally stepping on for testing purposes. Plus, the mega grip Vibram soles were super sticky giving me great traction. The built in gaiter was great at keeping pebbles & debris coming in the shoes. By the end of my hike, it didn’t even feel like I did that many miles & I wasn’t even exhausted.
These shoes are terrible. No heel lock and the foam rubber and structure of the shoe is falling apart after less than 200 miles. They feel like cheap Chinese made shoes
Not as good as V2 but still pretty great. The gaiter is dumb. I think a trail racing shoe should be more streamlined. The bottom half of the shoe is wonderful - if this were combined with the upper of V2 or a Speedgoat 6 it would probably be my favorite trail running shoe.
Was ultra nervous making the switch from Speedgoats to Tecton 3 for multiple reasons. Do not hesitate, the comfort of the Tectons dominates all other shoes I’ve used on the trail. Only complaint is the hug on the upper heal from the inside could be better
