My first Arc footwear, love it!
I ordered this model in early September 2025 and have been wearing them every day in the city during the Kazakh winter. At first, my left Achilles tendon was hurting for some reason, but I slightly loosened the lacing and now they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I really like the minimalist look of the Kopec GTX — they are truly waterproof, lightweight, yet stiffer compared to my old Salomons. I was a bit disappointed that even minor contact with the toe causes the toe protection to scratch easily. I hope they will last me a long time. I’ve already ordered the Norvan LD4 for the summer season.
Size up 1/2 size for wide feet
I have a genuinely wide feet. So any footwear that doesn’t have a specific “wide” size, I will size up a half size. It’s 50/50 whether that works out for me or not. These shoes advertised a wider baby toe box, which I always take with a grain of salt. I wear an 8.5 Wide, this shoe didn’t have a wide so I sized up to a 9. To my pleasant surprise, the Kopec did in fact have a wider toe box and the 9 fits great. However if I would have ordered a regular 8.5, my feet would have been cramped and it would be unwearable. I did also take some shoe insoles from other footwear I have to set if that could help enhance the fit and that also helped as well. Replacing the insoles with a thinner insole from another shoe or aftermarket will help for sure. Recommendations on size, if you have wider feet like I do, sizing up a half size is my best opinion. As far as construction, the shoe is stiff and will feel better after a break in period but nothing about it out of the box is bad.
Wears great and looks great
The Arc'teryx Kopec GTX is a fantastic do-all shoe. It's got the comfort of a sneaker and required zero break in time. The toe box is generous and narrows at the mid sole while the heel tab stays out of the way insuring that the shoe fits well in all the right places. It's flexible enough for general walking yet it's rigid enough to add confidant stability when needed. Water and abrasion resistance is very good. They grip well on slippery surfaces. Lastly, the minimal design aesthetic of the shoe allows it to be paired with a variety of clothing making it a great choice for the diversity of travel experiences that await!
Future Eyelet Design Consideration
The positioning of the eyelets nearest the toes are troublesome. Although small, their pressure can be felt directly on the metatarsal where it meets the big toe phalange. I repositioned the shoelace to begin at the second eyelet from the toes which helped somewhat but not completely. Love every other aspect of the shoe but these won’t support hiking much less walking longer distances. Thoughts?
Over priced and uncomfortable
Are these relatively waterproof? Yes. Are they made with good quality materials? Yes. Are the comfortable? No. You will definitely have to go out and buy better insoles. And even then they won't feel quite right. Read the negative comments on these shoes carefully before buying these shoes. Unless you you just have to have the dino bird skeleton on everything you own, I'd say skip this shoe.
Stable and Predictable
Loving these as a hiking shoe, work horse, and casual everyday kick. The platform is incredibly stable and instills confidence in every step. The protective rubber on the toe make these feel like a boot but wear like a shoe. Probably a little too soft for carrying real weight, but I have trekking boots for those trips and don't intend on doing larger expeditions in the Kopec. I swapped out my laces with a better color and am stoked with how they style with some easy customization. I wear them loose as my street shoe, but am always impressed with how solid they feel when I lace them up for the trail. The Mid version gave me a couple of weird pressure points, but the lows feel fantastic. I've been a fan of cordura on other products and not surprised that these have been incredibly durable as a work shoe. Overall, highly recommend as a light hike shoe or a daily workhorse. High performance "S#*t Kickers"!!
Disappointed with how soft the sole is.
Supper light and the fit is fantastic right out of the box, but the sole is far too soft for a light hiking shoe. I’m on day two of a week long day hiking trip in Crete walking a mix of asphalt, gravel and moderately rocky paths and I’m very disappointed with how I can pretty much feel every stone I step on because of the soft soles. Might work better with a stiffer, thicker insole if the volume can accommodate, but for a hiking shoe these really need a light carbon or semi rigid plastic partial shank in the forefoot or higher density foam or something similar to better protect the foot.
Decent shoes
Shoes over all feel high quality. Toebox seem very rugged which is great for hiking. Food security is great but lace need some improvement as it not hold in place after a busy day. Arcteryx please fix the toebox protection. Always so easy scuff up and the mark is so hard to come of. Grip is amazing Feel decent affet a long day
Happy feet
Great comfort on technical and standard trails. The cordura In the front is a bit stiff on the beginning, but works out after a few miles. They are built strong enough to withstand sharp rocks, and they have good grip. It's a bit hot Inside in summer days, but overall, happy feet.
