Length fits TTS. Toe box width fit my 10.9" nicely. The arch area sort of fit my low arches, but laces were pulled almost together. I have low volume low arches flat like pancakes not volume like sausages feet. So i put in my prescription orthotics to take up space and it worked. That's all i can say about fit. Tongue: stiff took 3 weeks of folding under lacing for it to barely soften enough but still poked front of ankles. I thought i had average ankles, but i guess for this particular ON vista 2, it fit like a large ankles. This is for the color Horizon/cream. The tanish colored one the tongue was waaay longer and stabbed more, i gave up on tan. Minus 1star Tongue/lacing: the tongue is very thin no cushioning, it's plastic. So if the top of your arches, mid foot need tighter lacing it will probably put painful pressure on arch tops. Windows lace past that area worked, but i list the snug fit for running. I tried every lace configuration to relieve pressure aside from removing orthotics. That's was my solution. But it didn't work fr running trails in my area. Minus 1/2 star, bc arches are individual. Cushion: currently i run roads ON cloud runner 2. I like its cushion, and hope for something similar in softness, responsiveness, cushion. Vista 2 has imo hard firm cushion, similar to a hiking boots. It lacked energy return, nt responsiveness for speed. No joy in running. If you're hoping for speedgoat, or zegama, this shoes is NOT remotely similar in trail running feel. I tried breaking in for 3 weeks, sandy dry washes, hard pack volcanic trail (painful), horse trail for a total of 20 miles. Initial runs cushion was firm, i thought it might be bc it 20 degrees out. Last, run it was 55 degrees, still hard cushion. My knees hurt i haven't run in 2 days, tried day 3 still hurts. Initial runs bc if lacing i thought left some tingling in feet, but now i think its both lacing and the hard cushion. I decided to do squats with added 20 lbs. I finally felt some of the cushion squish. So if your a heavier person ( im less that 125 lbs) maybe it'll feel more springy. Minus 1/2 I think the cushion is firm, but supportive. Its not for me, ill be returning to REI alog with the tan ones. BTW, after 2 weeks i went into local Bougie running store to get Aetrex insoles hoping the cushion would help these shoes. I mentioned they were for Trail Vista 2, staff said they quit stocking it bc too many runners returning bc tongue and cushioning. I felt validated, lol.
I bought the trail runners because I have two other pairs of OC shoes and they’re my favorite shoes ever. The trail runners are pretty comfortable on the soles of my feet, but the tongue is so stiff that it’s driving me crazy. So far I’ve had to wear tall socks, and even that hasn’t solved the problem. I’ve tried bending it and am hoping it will soften up, but I realized today that the problem is that they put the little tag with the sizing on the tongue, and that seems to be the problem. I’m deciding between cutting the tongue and returning the shoes, which I hate to do.
Buy only if you have very thin ankles. Just as other comments said, the tongue is super thin and stiff and you can notice it cutting into your ankle right away when you put those on. Fortunately I have very thin ankles so these do not cut as much, when wearing socks they are not that noticeable. But with regular ankles I can totally imaging how painful it will be with every step. Thought about returning them but REI charges shipping so I am gonna keep them...
The back lip of the shoe folded in almost immediately - making it very difficult to walk as it pokes my achilles. It feels like cardboard inside that bent? My Hokas got demolished within 3 months of wear and tear so folks suggested I switch to these and they also began falling apart within a month. I walk A LOT for work and need shoes that can keep up and sadly nothing has fit the bill yet. Would return if I could.
The tongue on this shoe feels like thin, stiff cardboard, which jams straight into the top of your foot with every step. I have never had a tongue on a running shoe feel this uncomfortable. I have two other pairs of On Running shoes, both with thick, soft cushioned tongue; I don't know what happened here.
I bought these shoes when I was preparing to walk 150 miles of the Camino de Santiago in northwest Spain. I needed a comfortable, lightweight shoe with good traction. These were my saving grace! I wore them so much then and for the past year afterward that it's time to replace them. I love these shoes.
