I am 6' 2" / 230 lbs and went with the XL based on trying on the Atom jacket in store. The shoulders and chest feel great, but the mid section is quite loose and baggy, clearly to accommodate bulkier individuals. The arms are about 3" past the wrists on each side, while the torso goes almost down to the inseam of my pants, or about 3" longer than I would expect. In short, the Atom just fits better for an athletic build. I am considering returning but the breathability and the range of temperatures I find it comfortable is impressive. I want this for backcountry skiing, so I am hoping this will dump heat on cold days while skinning and skiing.
Bought this for use as a mid-layer at the end of Jan this year. Loving the fit and breathability of the jacket. Keeps me warm under a GoreTex shell even in -20C, but doesn’t get too hot when things warm up. I’m quite disappointed however, that I’ve had this for one month and the jacket is already showing signs of wear and the material is pilling under the armpits. I’m using it for resort skiing and as a light jacket around town, and not using a backpack. Kind of blown away that a jacket at this price point is showing this kind of wear with a month of light use.
Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback on the Proton Hoody. We're glad to hear you’re enjoying the fit and breathability of the jacket, but we’re sorry to hear about the early signs of wear. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we’ll be sure to pass your comments along to our team.
There is nothing revised about this Proton at all. It’s the same 2019 product just more expensive. Second, I live in Florida and only use this Jacket during the winter when traveling north for work. I’ve maybe worn it a total of 8 times in 10 months. The logos which are smaller are already falling off or are totally faded. This is not the case with my 2019 jacket. Don’t buy.
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Proton Hoody. We are sorry to hear about the logos fading. We will make sure to pass your comments to our team.
I used to hike in an Atom until I discovered how much more breathable the Proton jacket is. I often struggle getting too hot, even in cooler conditions as I'm a very sweaty person. I hike in this for most winter hikes and don't find myself overheating. It's also incredibly packable and I love the colour too. I have one in navy blue and bright yellow too.
This jacket has carried me through fall, winter, and spring without missing a beat. It works beautifully on its own for mild days and layers perfectly under a shell when the cold really sets in. On chilly hikes I just throw on my Beta shell over it and it keeps me warm even in really cold weather. It is breathable, comfortable, and moves with you effortlessly. I have taken it on hikes and worn it in all kinds of conditions and it has never let me down. There is nothing bad to say about this hoodie. If you want something that works across seasons and feels great to wear, you have to get it.
Receiving a new jacket with a torn sleeve lining—how could you send out such a damaged item? The risk of buying from you is way too high, and this isn’t even a cheap jacket. What a poor shipping quality control. As the seller, do you not have any responsibility for this issue?

This jacket has quickly become my favorite because it's incredibly comfortable, it fits perfectly and it's as breathable as advertised. I typically use the jacket for long, strenuous hikes up and down steep hills in a wide range of chilly, relatively cold but not frigid temperatures. This jacket puts a smile on my face every time I wear it. The size large fits great.
Great warmth to weight ratio fits well and looks good. Unfortunately, after just a few months of wear around town the nylon shell ripped. I'm not exactly sure how it ripped but it was not through any misuse or improper care. I've been an Arc'teryx fan for many years but this is just one of several products I have bought in the last year that are nowhere near as durable as my older products. The products I have that are older than 5 years are in better shape than the those I have bought in the last year.
Hi Jon. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Proton Hoody. We are sorry to hear about the tear on your. While they are not covered by our Limited Warranty, we still recommend filling out a Product Service Request form and our team will be more than happy to see if there are any solutions we could offer: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request
I gave it to him for Christmas and he loves the lightweight, warm feel of it. The length is a little longer than typical men's jackets. He said this feature came in handy when glissading steeper terrain - which is the most favorite thing about winter mountain hiking! Based on the outer material, I was nervous that he would rip it during his first hike, but it held up great despite brushing tree branches.
