Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Rain pants that work
I recently went backpack camping and knew there was a little chance of rain so I picked up a couple pairs of these REI rain pants for my son and I just to be ready. The little chance of rain turned into a downpour and these pants kept us both dry for 6 hours of continuous rain while packing up camp and hiking out. We were damp underneath from our body heat but the pants never leaked. They fit comfortably over my hiking pants with room to maneuver. With the leg zipper it was fairly easy to slip them over my boots. Overall I’m really impressed and very glad I got them.
Better than a Kilt for rain on the AT.
Black, Men's Large short fit me well on a 130 mile AT Section hike in VT and NH. Knees could use some reinforcement as one leg tore when I slipped in a wet spot and went down on my knee. Like all rain pants, the really don't keep you dry due to sweating, but kept my shorts dry and the water from running into my boot (it rained a lot). Easy to patch and I will be keeping them for my next hikes. The leg zippers made them easy to get on and off with boots on (ankle high Keens). They really could use front pockets, but not a deal breaker for the weight and price. Not sure how they would hold up on a thru hike, but for weekly and day hikes they did quite well/.
Worked well with one very minor complaint
Great pants. Would recommend. Kept me high and dry all day in 39° moderate rain for 5.5 hours. Literally not a drop of water got through these pants. Don’t get the “shorts” if you’re not super short. I’m 5’8” and the shorts were much too short on me. Only complaint: Get rid Rog this terrible elastic pull string of a belt. Thing is terrible. Easy to break, and doesn’t hold the waist when tightened. You have drawstring ties on your Rainier pants, why did you cut the corner on these? You can do better here REI
Finally, a rain pant sized for shorter guys
I recently purchased the Trailmade Rain Pants, and I have to say, I'm impressed! What really did it for me was the fact that they come in short sizes, which is a game changer. The pants are super lightweight and packable, so they're easy to bring along on any outdoor adventure to have on hand in case the weather turns. They also fit comfortably over other pants, which is nice. I appreciate the zippers by the ankles since it makes it a breeze to put them on or take them off, even with boots on. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the lack of pockets (there is only one in the back), but I can understand how that may not be a bad thing when it comes to rain pants. Overall, I highly recommend these rain pants, especially for shorter guys who appreciate pants that fit.
Does what I expected
I use these when Temps are 35 F to 50 F. Keep the wind our so no wind chill. In light rain they keep me dry. Heavy downpours they are OK. They are an uninsulated shell and so a good job at keeping wind and wet out. I like the draw string on waist.
All in one pant...If you push em a little.
Had these for 6 years and used them for snowboarding, back country touring, and hiking in the rain and snow. They're not very warm however they are light, affordable, decently waterproof and work well with extra layers. They only met their demise after a crampon snagged the cuff and tore a nice sized hole in them. I'll probably upgrade to the 3L version this time around since I primarily splitboard in them and would like a little more protection. Sure, they aren't technical snow pants but Ive had a long run with them in various terrain and conditions
First Pair of Rain Pants in Years!
These rain pants are great - nice fit, completely waterproof. They are a little light so if you're wearing them in colder weather you'll want to wear something underneath them. Only other note is there is only one pocket.
These are rain pants
They are good pants for the price. Kept my dry in periods of heavy rainfall and wind. Not particularly heavy or light.
A good pair of rain pants
I tried them on, and they fit pretty well. It appears well constructed. The belt that holds the pants up on the person is simply an elastic string about the thickness of a shoelace with a piece of plastic used to tighten it up or loosen it. It would've been better with a cheap nylon belt go through loops.
Drastically oversized, heavy/inane snap closure
I attempted to replace a much older pair of REI brand size medium rain pants with these, and found the definition of a medium waist has apparently been increased by six inches. i.e. the waist on these pants with the elastic contracted is 6 inches bigger than on my much older pair of the same size and brand. In addition, the cuff zipper is now heavier and a bulky, heavy, and unnecessary snap closure has been added, making it feel like ship anchors are clunking around at your ankles. So, my old pair will have to soldier on while the search for a replacement continues.
