Great trail shoes
I read the reviews, which weren’t good, but decided to try them anyway. The Speedgoat 6 mid is a low top trail runner/hiker with a cuff at the ankle that helps keep debris out of the shoe. It does a decent job at this but doesn’t really add any support which, for me, isn’t an issue. I have a high instep/arch and the elastic material over the arch and just beneath the laces is pretty snug. I normally wear a size 9 in Hoka’s and I wasn’t sure the size 9 ordered in this shoe would work but it does! The snug fit gives it a secure feel on the trail and the Vibrum sole provides very nice traction. Supposedly these are waterproof but I haven’t tested this feature yet. These shoes don’t feel like my normal Speedgoats but I really like them! Five Stars

Not for serious hikers
Cushy but not durable. Bad customer service with Hoka. If you hike regularly or go off trail, they will get holes and the company won't take care of you.

Poorly executed design

Great in theory but poorly executed. Might run half a size large, depending on your foot. The issue with this shoe is that the lacing system does not match the shoe’s structure. The eyelets end very low on the foot (below the ankle), and though the collar is neoprene and velcroes in place, it is flimsy and provides no added support. The pictures disguise the actual height of the eyelets due to the shoe’s stack height. Instead of being a variation of the Speedgoat 6 specifically designed for a mid-rise GTX version, it’s like Hoka just slapped the neoprene collar on the low top SG6 and called it a day. Also, for those who haven’t tried them on yet: the SP6 has a much firmer midsole than the SG5. It is a completely different shoe.

Excellent lightweight and Very Stable Shoe

I dis agree w "actual person". These are great fitting shoes. They are tight early, you need to clip your toenails and wear these. I bought a pair from REI, I love them but....the left heal bottom started to de laminate. REI was awesome, I paid $20 uopcharge due to no sale on the new version. These things stick like octopi. Very grabby on wet rock, on any interio floor, court, you will think there was some jam spilled on the floor.

Very disappointed

Been wearing Hoka speed goat mids for years for hiking and am so sad with this new version. I need stable ankle support and the neoprene new uppers are useless and with the laces ending low on the shoe I can't do my normal heel locking lacing method.

As a trail runner, this is designed perfectly(IMO)

I think what Hoka did by redesigning the mid collar is to truly make it a shoe for running or hiking in the snow, mud, or rain. By adding this neoprene mid collar, it’s basically just putting a built-in gaiter on the shoe. No, it doesn’t have the support of a typical mid-height trail shoe, it is basically just a Gore-Tex Speedgoat with a built-in gaiter, which is EXACTLY what I wanted!

Decline in quality

I have depended on and worn speedgoats for many years now. They’re the perfect shoe for everything I do. They helped me heal my plantar fasciitis. However, as other reviewers have stated, the speed goat 6 has declined greatly in quality. I’ve only had them two months, and the sole is already separating from the upper and it is no longer waterproof. Pretty sad for a very expensive shoe. And too bad because Hoka’s are generally awesome shoes. Hoping that Hoka can reinvest in the quality of this line of shoes. Otherwise, I’m headed to a different brand.

Not my kind of shoe

These shoes didn't work for me. I did have to get a size 10 even though I usually wear a 9.5. The waterproof part was great. But for some reason the shoe on my left foot just dug into my Arch. I thought maybe I needed a break in. But I wore them for like three and a half weeks and it just got worse. The right foot seem fine. Now I may be something it was just me and my left foot. But I got another pair of shoes 9.5 which is what my size is supposed to be and so far they're working out. These might work great for other people but they just weren't for me

Sturdy yet comfortable lightweight hikers

I’ve read a variety of mixed reviews on these shoes and I have to admit I was a bit skeptical when taking them on their maiden voyage, but these shoes pleasantly surprised me. Wore these on a variety of hikes in Oregon on multi-mile trails and not once did I regret my purchase. Lightweight and fit extremely well. No blisters, the waterproofing did its job and am extremely happy with the purchase. They tend to be a little thick at the back sole and depending on your gait, may be an issue, but it never bothered me. Also, know that the lace ride across the lower part of the ankle which, again, depending on your comfort level, may feel “off”. I didn’t but I can see how others may. If I had one downside on these, it’s the non-useful gaiters. Really not sure what the purpose of these are since they don’t add support nor provide a tighter seal at the ankle; they really seem superfluous and make the shoe hard to get on at times.
