these mitts are good for lightweight outdoor activity but i bought a size large and they feel like children's mittens. Not that warm compared to the description. I need to purcahse a better pair for skiing and winter than these are.
They are warm, but not durable. The synthetic leather palms DOES NOT offer superior abrasion resistance. It started flaking off the gloves by the 9th day on the mountain. REI called this normal wear and tear and would not accept a return. I specifically don’t buy products on Amazon to try and avoid inferior products, but that’s what these REI gloves are.
the gloves are nice and warm, keep the hands dry, and are very comfortable. But the material on the palm/fingers of the gloves is starting to rub off. I've been using them snowboarding so it might be due to strapping in the binding. getting to the point of needing new mittens after only about using them 10 times.
I bought these for my 10 yr old who is growing out of kid sizes. His first day out with his ski team was in the rain and he was very happy that his hands stayed dry.
Great mittens for the price and they really keep my hands warm and dry. I wore them outside during the recent bitter cold snap here in Wisconsin and my fingers never got cold like they usually do. I like the high cuff as well, as it goes over the jacket sleeve and keeps out the wind.
The liner of the mit is pulling away from the shell after wearing only three times. The outer shell is not very durable either. Was really expecting more
I used to wear ski gloves, switched to these mittens and I am very happy. They are roomy, warm, have long gauntlets that go on top of my ski jacket. When it is really cold, I keep hand warmers inside and move them with my fingers to warm my palms while on the lift and to be out of the way when skiing down
I have multiple pairs of winter gloves. Even the best ski gloves I have ($150+) still do not keep my hands warm when the temperature is in the single digits. We spent some time in Vermont recently and the temperature hovered from 0-5 degrees F and my hands would get chilly after 30-40 minutes outside. After reading about some solutions, I realized that mittens might be best option for me, generally. Part of why I have used gloves over the years is to access my phone without taking my gloves off. Except, I almost always have to take my gloves off to actually get anything done, even answer the phone sometimes. So, mittens don't cause me much distress there, and they are easier to take off. And, over the last three days of single digit temps in Western North Carolina my hands never got cold. Not once. Not while walking the dogs or shoveling snow or melting the ice in my HVAC drip lines. I love these mittens. A note - I normally wear Large in gloves. For the mittens, Medium was very roomy.
I bought online and will keep them based on other reviews. They seem super warm and well made, but I am a bit concerned that the thumb is too stiff. I assume that will loosen up over time as I need good grips for skiing etc. Will try to follow back up after using this upcoming winter
Just what I needed. They are not super warm (still needed glove liners and had cold fingers/thumbs after 3 runs in single digit, somewhat windy weather), but worked as well as expected - better than gloves. Didn't need, but glad they are Gore-Tex.
