Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Comfy trail runners with great traction

I live on a pretty rough, steep dirt road so most of my running is trail running either on the edge of the road or surrounding hiking trails. These shoes are my new go-to trail runners for most conditions. I have been an Altra wearer for several years now and these are a great model. They are definitely on the thicker-cushion end of things but they don’t feel like moon shoes and you still get good ground feel. Very comfortable when you land on a rock (I’ve been injured that way before). I prefer a shoe with a roomer toe box and these are excellent in that respect without feeling like my feet slide around too much on slopes. I feel like the fit on these is exactly what I expected both in terms of my size and a typical Altra fit. I really like the ventilation on these shoes. It has been warm and humid and I do feel like my feet get some air flow. If you prefer a waterproof shoe for wet conditions these are not, but they are best for most days. I have not had any issues with blisters or breaking them in. They also have a pretty sleek look for a highly padded shoe. In terms of trail performance the grip is excellent. I feel confident on loose gravel slopes as well as slick exposed rock. The heels have a bit of extra padding around the top that I feel helps keep the shoes stable on my feet on uneven terrain. I love these shoes!

Awesome lightweight all purpose trail shoes!

This is a fantastic trail running shoe that delivers speed and agility. It's comfy and lightweight, with responsive cushioning and excellent grip, which makes it great for fast-paced runs and challenging terrain. It was seamless on a variety of surfaces, from loose gravel to rocky climbs. The compression-molded midsole foam provided a perfect balance of comfort and energy return, making every stride feel effortless. I was also impressed with the thoughtful details like the gaiter trap and toe protection which make it a great choice for both experienced and new trail runners. These features show that Altra put a lot of thought into designing a shoe that meets the needs of trail runners. If you're looking for a shoe to push your limits on the trails, this is a great option. It also looks good! Definitely recommend!

Light, comfortable trail runner w/ great traction!

Straight out of the box I these for an 8 mile, 3,600’ (~3 hours) mountain hike/run on a windy and wet Alaska summer day. They performed awesome, and it was my first time ever wearing Altra shoes. They were so comfortable and had great traction on the slick stuff. I was able to run down loose sections with confidence. I think they fit true to size and am happy with my normal running shoe size. Even with wet socks and the first time wearing these, I did not get any blisters and my feet felt fine at the end. Love them and will be considering Altras for my next pair of running shoes!

Too tight to put to the test

Seems like a great shoe but did not fit. I've worn a size 7 my whole life. Trail runner arrived and they felt compact in the toe box but very tight too. Tread was nice, cushion spectacular but sadly could not put these shoes to the test on the trails due to the tightness in the shoe at about where the bottom lace goes across. I drew a red line in my pic. I never considered myself to have a wide foot. So either my foot has changed over the years or this model/brand of shoe is a bit smaller in this area than most. I also reached out to ask if I could send them back or swap for a bigger size but no email ever came back from the REI test program.

Comfortable and versatile - love them!

I tried them out over a couple of weeks including weekend errands, a quick hike at the state park, and a walk with my boys. They were perfect for exercising and cute enough to wear with a summer dress. Extra inside heel cushioning makes them so comfortable - no blisters or rubbing, even the first few times I wore them. I love the color combination, and the beige rubber strip shows minimal dirt after hiking. The sole was thick and bouncy which made my feet happy. The flat laces do need to be tied tight or they easily came untied - this was easily managed after the first wear. My one complaint is the way the purple lining is attached to the outer shoe, near the laces. The material has a raw edge which is serged and butts up against the fabric carrier for the laces. The right shoe already has loose and uneven threads, and I worry that the rubbing of the laces may cause fraying over time.

Experience this!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When they first arrived these shoes were very stiff and structured and hard to get on even though they are indeed my size and fit once on. The shoes were definitely durable and sustained a lot of mileage with ease. The flexibility in some areas was a little constricting but it did add support where needed. The toe box is wide and lets my toes spread out in a more natural way making long distance more comfortable. Of course once the shoes were broke in a little better they felt better. The wide toe box does make the shoe a little more bulky and box looking then the average trainer. The style is fairly neutral with a splash of color so it goes with a lot of attire options.

Great summer trail shoe!

Not what I was expecting from an Altra. I say this because past Altra shoes provided little cushion. I've used my Altras just walking around town and recently on long trail walks/runs. They are very comfortable and light weight. They had more of a cushion than I had expected which I liked. They are roomy in the front. They provide great traction on rocky terrain. They keep my feet cool. So far they are holding up pretty well.

Cushy yet supportive

Overall, really like this shoe, it is supportive yet also light and has good traction. I was apprehensive about the heel cushion at first as I’m used to the Lone Peak but it didn’t take long to adjust to and so far no issues with blisters. I feel like the gaiter hook needs to be moved forward towards the toe of the shoe as my gaiters are not tight enough with the current placement. Also, not a huge fan or the color “taupe”, not sure why light colored trail shoes are a thing, might as well just make them mud toned. I see many more muddy and happy miles with these in the future.

Hoka dupe alert!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Best kept secret out here! These shoes fit like a glove! They are so comfortable and offer a lot of support. I like using these for running but they are a great fashion statement too! The color is subtle light purple, and with its light orange accents it’s the perfect shoe for every sporty girl! Shoes were true to size :)

I loved the most comfortable shoes for your running routine 😍😍😍

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have received this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion and Compared to other running shoes that I have tried, Altras stands out for its unique combination of comfort and support and modern look 😍🤩 The spacious toe and zero-drop design provide a natural running experience, reducing tension in my feet and legs and providing comfort to my life and back Having a pair of Altra shoes has numerous benefits. They are incredibly light and breathable, perfect for long races and for daily use I love it and it’s my most favorite shoe now As I like to take outdoor walks and do my daily running workout, the Altra Women's Experience Wild shoes have been a lifesaver. They are incredibly comfortable with a spacious toe that allows my toes to extend naturally, which feels incredible. The cushioning is incredible and I felt like I was walking on the clouds! but now I can't imagine going back to less ergonomic walking shoes. If you are looking for a mix of comfort, support and style, I highly recommend that you try them you will love them as I loved my feet did not hurt and I felt super comfortable all the time It gave the best support for the knee and legs.
