Sturdy with umpteen uses.
Smelly Proof, while an odd name, are durable reusable storage bags that come in various sizes in both flat and standing styles. I found that they stored foods, wet bathing suits, and can be used for making block ice along with the other uses listed in the product description. The standing bags were especially helpful when using water to freeze to make ice for the cooler. While storing some mesquite smoked turkey in one bag, there was a slight odor left in the bag which was easily eliminated by hand washing with mild dish detergent. Unlike regular Ziplock type baggies, these are made of a tougher plastic and the "zipper" seems much more sturdy.
Nice heavy duty bags and Smell Proof
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. This package included 4 bags, 2 smaller and 2 larger ones. Each of the sizes has 1 bag with an expandable bottom. So I did what I consider the ultimate test. I keep bags of ground coffee in a cupboard. Every time I open it, I can smell the coffee. Paced 2 coffee bags in the larger bag, sealed it up and each day for 5 days I reopened the cupboard and took it out. I was unable to smell any coffee. When I opened the bag, there it was, delicious coffee. What do I like about these bags 1) heavier duty plastic, should last for a while and not tear (interestingly I tore a standard sealable type bag opening it to get some some instant coffee pouches for the photos) 2) the seal has many more rows/grooves and the end attachment points are way more solid then regular sealable type bags (note picture of seal) 3) The bags with the expanding bottom are great and will,stand up. 4) I can use the smaller bags for 1-2 day overnight backpacking trips and the larger one for longer trips. 5) The larger bag fits nicely in my trash/take-out bag (note picture), and that size will fit nicely in my bear bag so I am going to use one consistently for trash and one for food. 6) They can hold a bunch of food and other smellables, 7) They are washable. Overall I think these are excellent and will get a lot of use
They held up
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. My initial impression straight out of the box was, they feel durable and not flimsy, in fact, they held up extremely well on a 5 day backpacking excursion. The zip closure has a noticeable signature green band which, I later found, makes it easier to identify in low light conditions (backpack). As I always do with coffee, I bagged it in smaller bag and placed it inside a larger bag, along with a few other scented food items. Both Smelly Proof bags were excellent in containing the scent. No overwhelming coffee aroma, no contamination nor smell from the other items. In comparison to popular brands, they are semi-rigid and not as flexible; however, they are hardy, durable, and continued to function very well after multiple openings and resealing. They truly held up better than I had expected.
Exceptional Bags
These are incredible bags. Fully reusable, no leaks, no odors, really strong. I took 2 camping and one had soup and the other had toiletries. Hiked in 15 miles, used them repeatedly, hiked out, and when i washed them they were like new and ready to use again. Gives me peace of mind thst the contents will stay secure and love that i can use them repeatedly. Great product and highly recommend
Too concerned use?
I purchased 6 of these bags to take the place of OPSAK brand I was using. I thought no odor would escape. It said the seal is waterproof, but I checked all 6 bags underwater and air bubbles came out of the closure on each bag. If air comes out of the closure, then so will odors. How is this actually sold as waterproof and smelly proof?
Great bags!
I really like these bags a lot! At our home we are very conscious of single use plastic and try to use disposable products at a minimum. We always try to use plastic bags sparingly and use them multiple times if possible. Possible means they can be cleaned fairly easily. These bags are easy to wash out! My favorite part is that you can open them and the bottom is configured that they stand open independently so you can pour stuff in without holding. I expected the corners to be difficult to clean because of this feature but they closed off the corners that were created so no problem. The plastic is heavy duty, and since I was given these items to test I filled with water, shook them upside down and no leakage at all. They are easy to close. I'm very impressed!
Dissapointed with Product
Tried a pack of these bags recently prior to my camping trip in PA. Was disappointed with the strength of the bag, as the seal ripped after just 3 uses. I used a different bag to store my beverages and found that they were leaking out the bottom. Didn't do a great job keeping my belongings contained.
Great bags that do the job if you don't over fill
They certainly are scent proof...at least enough to not attract ants in Florida, which is an accomplishment. These bags are thick too. It's a well made product with the only drawback being that they seem to pop open if you over stuff them. This issue may be caused by the single zip closure but on that note they are very easy to close...just don't put too much in them so that the closure is stressed.
Smell proof, durable, multi-use bags.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I found these reusable bags very high quality. I have used while hiking to carry my lunch and they proved to be airtight and protected my food since they are so heavy weight. I also used the large one to carry a bag full of ice in a cooler. I was disappointed that it leaked along the top corner. I question if I had sealed the bag properly. Even though I was careful to secure the seal, it was leaking. I will attempt to use again for ice to see if it was the seal or my mistake. I still love the quality of the bags and have found them easy to rinse out and they do not retain odors, which is a huge plus. They can be used again and again, a help to the environment. I have shared the bags with friends and they are anxious to use them as well.
