Amazing Bag!!
I've tried several travel backpacks, each with its own flaws. This answers all of my "if only this bag had..." issues. I have gone on four trips with this bag, including one on a puddle jumper with very little overhead space, and never had an issue. They must have fixed the zipper issue because I have not experienced what others have described. I have the bag in the greyish-white color and it's still in perfect condition (and I am hard on things). The only frustration is that the hip belts are not removable. I don't like having hip belts on a travel backpack. Only on my hiking packs. Fashion over back pain.
Prepping for Long-term Travel
Bought this for long-term travel in Europe and other parts of the world. First impressions are very positive. Build quality and materials appear to be excellent. Large capacity so I will have to watch overpacking and packing cubes are recommended. The harness is not adjustable but appears to be an adequate fit (5'll"). The hip belt and and ability to stow the harness were key features for me. I've loaded it with what I intend to take to Europe and it carried well. Once I've used it a couple of times, I'll update the review.
Quality Travel Bag
Use: 2 week vacation to Europe. **Did not use for backpacking while hiking. Was used for airport travel and to rotate clothes for upcoming days to minimize the amount of times needing to go in and out of my duffle bag while between hotels and Airbnbs.** Quality: Amazing! Material and hardware are well made. The zippers securely fastened and at times I found that I needed to use both hands (one holding the bag and the other pulling the zipper) to open the bag but I’m 100% OK with this as I was confident my belongings would not go spilling out. Airport Travel: Straps may be tucked in when checking in (I did). Small enough to use as a carry on (I did). Fit: The fit of the bag on your back, shoulders, and waist is comfortable Capacity: This bag holds quite a bit. I was able to fit my Grayl water bottle, pajamas, 3 pairs of pants, 3 long sleeves, 4 pairs of socks, 4 pairs of boxers, 1 fleece jacket, 1 rain pant, 1 rain jacket, 1 pair Birkenstocks, charging cables, GoPro (and accessories), blanket, insulin cooler, gloves, beanie, and neck gator. The strap inside the bag held everything together just as I placed it in. The bag closed easily and did not feel tight or overly packed but there was also not much more I could fit inside the main compartment. Organization: The top of the bag has an organizational compartment with small pockets and two zipper pockets. Those are nice however the zipper pockets inside that compartment can be a little bit larger. In here I placed all my airplane accessories, cable, phone stand, eyes mask, passport and wallet, chapstick, gum, airpods, and sunglasses. Though that space could be a little larger, it held what I needed and was nothing I could work around. I highly recommend this bag!
Great bag for Europe.
Very versatile bag that carries all clothes for a 7-10 days with room for other misc items. Plenty of different pockets that I quickly occupied. The water bottle pocket on the outside is a plus as well as the document pocket on the front was very handy and useful. I purchased the packing cubes and they worked great for organizing. Great looking bag too.
Not a good fit for small women.
I want to love this bag. I really really want to. I did SO much research before I went for it, and it has so many features I love. It's clearly well constructed and I expect it would last a long time. The zippers are high quality, the dimensions are great for packing tons of stuff in, and the various tech and other pockets are functional. Despite it being a bit larger than some airline dimensions, I had no issues fitting it into overhead bins on small and large planes from Delta, Aire Lingus, Lufthansa, and Condor. No issues with the staff either. Unfortunately, the moment it was packed and I was at the airport I realized it was not going to work out. To the point that I looked up the return policy WHILE I was at the airport after wearing it for about 15 minutes. (For context, I am 5'3" and about 135lb + curvy). It's clearly designed with a man's shoulders and with larger frame in mind, and as a result the back is far too long for my torso. The belt strap was predictably much too low due to the length of the bag and when fastened tightly, pinched my hips with each step. This would be survivable, but the shoulder straps are also spaced very far apart and cut in to the far sides of my shoulder and arms as I walked or while just standing. Adding in the buckle across the chest then caused the straps to cut into my collar bones, and the lifters did nothing to alleviate the discomforts there. After one layover and walking through the airport, my shoulders were aching and I had angry red marks from the straps. I'm not one to return something on a whim and I was so stoked on the bag in all other respects, but it is just so painful to wear for any length of time that I will be returning it. If Matador ever makes a women's version of this bag with better dimensions for my frame (a few less Ls would be a worthy sacrifice), I'll jump on it ASAP. But for now, me and this bag will have to part ways.
Versatile and well-designed travel pack
This is a great travel pack! I used to have a Tortuga pack but switched to the Globerider45 because I was able to get it on sale. It's been with me on several domestic and international trips so far and I've really enjoyed it. Some pros and cons: Pros: * Very comfortable harness. Out of all the travel packs I've tried, this is the closest to a backpacking backpack and rests on your hips well. * Great materials: It's tough and looks good. I haven't been caught in a heavy downpour yet but I'm optimistic it will at least shed light rain. * Roomy: I can fit a lot of stuff in it, including boots * Good (but not perfect) organization: There are a lot of nice little touches that make traveling and organizing easier, and what's there is well designed. I love having the large front elastic pocket for jackets and such. Cons: * There could be a little better organization. There aren't any waist strap pockets, and the front electronics pocket has limited room and sub-pockets. Just a few more areas to separate small things would be helpful. * The laptop pocket is great if you only have one device, but if you have multiple it can be a hassle. But, that's a good excuse to not bring devices on trips! Overall, I'd say this is the best travel pack I've used. I also have a couple other Matador packs and I've been very happy with them too.
durable with flaws.
I’ve used this on a couple two week trips. The overall build is durable and high quality. Ok, problems: clam shell is meh design. It’s VERY easy to not close all the way and next thing you know you’re walking around with a partly open bag at the bottom. This has to do with the zipper being extremely stubborn to pull, so incomplete closure becomes a norm that just keeps happening. Im used to rigging rafts for long trips so I’m not a newb either. overall space for each compartment needs a redo specifically for the top easy access spot where all the headphones, keys and other items go. It fills too fast and a blind hand reaching for something in an airplane storage perhaps is bound to just knock stuff out or have trouble finding something because it’s relatively tight. Clunky organization at best. It’s the minor annoyances, an even small wallet won’t fit in the “wallet space”, An Apple AirPod max can’t fit anywhere easily. Single hand unzipping is impossible. This is the single biggest problem with this bag. I don’t care how waterproof it is. An average human has to use large muscle groups to open the zippers. I’ve gotten over this by using my topo designs duffle which just makes a lot more sense, is less frustrating, and is equally durable.
Just got back from Spain
We traveled Spain for 12 days and only used backpacks. I liked the many features this pack has for my trip. The back pocket for my electronics, the quick access upper front pocket for all the misc stuff was great. overall packed as a carry on to go to Spain with no issues and checked it as checked luggage for the return trip and it was in perfect condition. The fact that I can pack the straps so tightly was a huge advantage as checked luggage.
