I’m a fan of Mountain Hardware gear and liked the idea of a 4 season, single layer tent with the vestibule area. Thinking it would be nice to have on my 2 wheeled camping adventures in the off seasons. I haven’t had the opportunity to get out and use it as it’s designed for, but I did set it up inside. I wish the packed size was included in the description as I wouldn’t have purchased it. But after setting it up and being impressed with the size, ease of setup and how the dual door vestibule area was what I need when the weather is not agreeable. I decided that I could make the packed size work. The weight is equal to any of my other tents that are dual layered.
For all weather conditions the ACI 3 will not disappoint. We got this tent for our winter campouts with the Scout Troop and the first night snowed 6". It was chilly but super dry, and with two of us in there in our mummy bags were nice and cozy even with winds. Condensation did accumulate on the inside - something to consider for ventilation. All in all we are stoked at the construction and ease of set up / tear down.
Got this 3 Person tent for a Himalayan Expedition in India. The days I was sleeping in this tent felt like I was glamping. Huge space inside the tent, easy to set up and more importantly it’s a bomber structure. Good ventilation and the best part is the shoe space inside the tent allows the tent to stay clean whilst the shoes stay warm for the next morning’s summit attempt.
This is a 1.5 season tent. The ventilation is terrible, it becomes an easy bake oven with 3 people, and my family almost suffered heat exhaustion/heat stroke in moderate summer temps. We will only be using this for very late autumn - very early spring from here forth.
It’s very good light weight tent. Make sure to leave open the vents when packing up or the tent acts like a giant air bag. Poles and steaks are quality as well. The zippers a very nice and opening and closing the doors and one mess door is very easy. I used this tent in 20-30 degree weather 5 times now. Each time the tent kept all the rain/snow out but due to the tents construction, condensation is a real factor. (I recommend a pack towel, as water will bead up above and below you lightly.) but don’t let that discourage you from purchasing this tent, it drys very quickly in the sun. I have a canvas tent and deal with the same thing. (Condensation is apart of the camping game) Also you maybe thinking about the sleeves for the poles, I like them, find them to be more durable in 4 season use (rather than fragile plastic clips) This tent is a rock and is definitely build to take you anywhere SUN/RAIN/orSHINE.
This tent was an oasis of comfort at basecamp during our big wall first ascent expedition in the Himalaya at 4500m. It was warm and simultaneously would never form condensation on the inside because of the 4 adjustable vents. The zip in the floor was also great for keeping the dirt from boots off the tent floor.
I ordered this tent with an expected arrival date on Friday. I was leaving for my trip on Monday. I received a cancelation email from REI Wednesday night. To say sorry, i received a 15% off coupon, as if that would help me now! Extremely poor customer service.
