I have not taken them out yet, but the fit is nice and I like the knee reinforcement. These are relatively light, seem breathable enough, and will be durable. Should be good for summer alpine climbing and winter ice climbing
Wore these on my first mountaineering trip in the Adirondacks. Temperature was in the single digits on the first day, and in the low to mid 20s on the second day, and we trekked through snow the whole time. These pants kept me warm and comfortable both days, even without a base layer underneath.
I have never been unhappy with a pair of BD pants and these are some of my favourite! Stretchy, breathable, and adjustable cuffs let me leave the gators at home. I like the extra patches on the seat and knees which made me less hesitant to kneel or sit on damp ground during a recent backpacking trip. Will definitely buy another pair.
Pants work great. Comfy enough to wear in warmer weather but dont let the cold in either. Rugged in rocky terrain and in the knees and butt for climbing without worrying about tearing up your pants.
I bought a pair of these to wear bouldering, under a harness for multi-pitch trad, route-setting, and wanted to see how they would perform ice climbing. The material feels light, but it’s a heavier weighted pant than some others I have from Mountain Hardware, Patagonia, and The North Face Summit Series, but it has fantastic stretch that allows completely free, unrestricted movement, and the strategically reinforced areas do their job well. I’ve worn them biking into work in 25 F windy days, bouldering on an exposed ridge top in a light rain, and for hours in a harness while setting. They still look brand new. Water seems to bead and run off them, especially light rain, and they’re fairly wind resistant. They wash well, don’t hold stains (I wouldn’t test it with petroleum products), didn’t get picked apart crossing through greenbrier and raspberry, and no abrasion wear so far. They breathe really well too - lugging 60lbs of pads, gear, and water up a steep trail in mid-50’s humid weather, I didn’t feel sweaty or clammy. That’s not the case setting indoors where they didn’t vent my perspiration as quickly and I felt the trapped moisture. They have shrunk slightly since I got them, after about 10 washings, enough to notice - maybe a full half size. If you’re planning to wear them over a base layer I’d size up. I’ve also, to the horror of my daughter and wife, worn them multiple days in a row with washing and they don’t small bad. My only beef with them is their length and cinching bottoms - I should have bought the shorter inseam. I’m 5’10” with slightly shorter legs, longer torso, and the pants cover the heels of my climbing shoes unless I roll them. I haven’t been able to figure out how the elastic cinches work - seems like they’re missing the cord stopper. Otherwise they’re my favorite climbing pants and if we get another cold spell I’ll try ice climbing with them. Oh, and I always wish reviewers would share this: 5’10” 190 lbs, athletic thicc with junk in the trunk. I bought size 34 R. Wish I’d bought 36 S
Lots of hiking, a few scrambles, all of which were very comfortable in these tech pants. I liked the feature of the scuff patches. Fit was true to size. Typically wear 30-32 depending on the brand. Bought a 31 think I might need the extra room for layers (fleece, etc.), sent them back for the size 30., perfect fit. Haven't tried these on a above 70° day. Work up a sweat and the fabric had good breathability. Hoping these will be my go to pants for cooler alpine hike later this summer/fall.
I do like the pants and the fit. A couple things that I would add to make the pant perfect: I would add belt loops rather than the built in belt. This would allow me to carry my multitool on my hip. ( I understand the existing design is better for backpacking hip belts. ) Also, they are warmer than you would think when hiking. I might add vent zips to allow better ventilation as the day warms up. Otherwise a wonderful, lightweight trouser.
6’1” 190lbs I am all legs! I bought a 36. Very comfortable and the fit is nice, could have a little more length, but with boots it’s fine. I don’t like internal belts but I understand why climbers appreciate them. I think they will be amazing for fishing, I love fly fishing small technical mountain streams. Light weight, fast drying, scratch and tear resistant. Seem like a good option.
Love the pants. Unlike many BD pants these run big. I returned 3 pair of light weight hiking pants because they were too tight in the waist. These, same size, are too big. But the belt helps. Wore them 3 days in row. Very comfortable and sooooo streeeeetchy.
My Alpine Pants have not climbed any mountains yet but they have been Mountain Biking and Hiking in the Hills NW of here. Very resistant to abrasion. I do not love the belt but it is functional. Will continue "Testing."
