For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Overall, I like these. They provide adequate support, although a slightly higher arch would have been preferable in my opinion. The soles are grippy, and make me feel very connected to the ground beneath me. I wear an 8.5 in everyday shoes, and the 8.5 fits, but there is no extra length. I would not want to size up, however, because I worry any extra width would have been too much. They look cute, I like the color, and I’m confident they will serve well as my new hiking go-to!
The TX4s are a nice update to a pair I owned a couple versions back. The toe box is a bit wider than most La Sportiva footwear which is a nice shift. The soles are quite grippy (as hoped & expected0 and If you were to forget your climbing shoes or had an unexpected mellow climb on a route these shoes would no doubt be up to the challenge. If you are looking for a good all-around shoe capable of varied terrain and carrying heavy loads this is a great option.
I have owned many approach shoes over the past decade or so, including La Sportiva, but this shoe has to be the most trustworthy one yet. Trialed it on both volcanic lava rock (Bishop,CA) and sandstone (Red Rock, NV) and the shoe did not disappoint. It grips the edges of chossy trail rocks, does well on warm up ledges and gives you confidence when rock-hopping across the dusted and notoriously slippery sandstone approaches. As for fit - it's true to size and the wide lacing allows you to get your feet in without having to yank the back tab too much. The toe box is well-protected and not as narrow as many approach shoes tend to be. Really solid.
I wanted to love these shoes, but there were a few drawbacks for me. Let's start with the good - even great - I love how they look. They are sleek with some nice pops of color, but they are neutral to go with anything. I also love how sturdy they are. The soles are very rigid, which I like because I'm often carrying a toddler in a carrier or baby in frontpack while hiking. They provide a ton of stability and support of a taller hiking boot without going above my ankle. On muddy trails and slushy, snowy, icy, hikes, they provided excellent grip and traction even going down hill with a baby. And now on to the cons: these shoes are really quite heavy. All that sturdiness (that I genuinely love) means these are some hefty shoes. They are fine for wearing on hikes in town, but I can't imagine these as shoes I want to bring on a trip because of how heavy they are. Like other reviewers mentioned, the leather looks nice, but it does take awhile to dry. I know these aren't intended to be water-resistent, but it feels important to note that I would make sure I wear these in dry conditions for rocky/scrabbly trails. And finally, I love La Sportiva shoes, but it's important to note to size up in them! Even compared to other La Sportiva shoes I have and love, these TX4 Evo Approach Shoes are very structured/don't have any give, especially in the toe box.
These hiking shoes are more rugged and tough than other hiking shoes I have owned. They have a stiffness and sturdiness to them that I think would be great for more difficult terrain. I own a pair of La Sportiva running shoes that I really enjoyed until the top of the heel support broke; these shoes appear that they will not have that problem because La Sportiva added a loop on the heel to help you get it on and the heel cushion is soft, rather than reinforced. The tread is also really grippy; you would have a hard time tripping in these shoes. I'm not the biggest fan of the look of the laces - they almost look like climbing shoes - but they function as intended and are adjustable.
I was really pleased with this shoe. While climbing on and stone. I felt my steps were steady and no slipping. Wore all day and they were very sturdy. My only complaint is I have a wider foot and they were a little tight in the toe box but after readjusting laces they were mostly fine! I really like the color and toe protection at the front!
These shoes were almost perfect! I really enjoyed the lacing system- easy to tighten and loosen and stays tied while you’re on the move. I also like the fact that the tongue of the shoe stays in place with movement and that the soles of these shoes are amazingly grippy; even in wet conditions! The toe shaped/foot shaped forefoot of the shoe is also great along with the arch support. The one major downside: these shoes run about .5-1 full size small. I usually wear a 7.5-8.0 and the 7.5 was a bit small and narrow. I would recommend ordering a size up if you have wider feet or feet that swell when you hike!
I have La Sportiva climbing shoes and hiking boots that I love and this was my first time trying their approach shoes (or any approach shoes for that matter). Size & Fit - I am a true size 8 and ordered an 8. The width of the shoe fit my foot perfectly with no extra room. However, that made me know right off the bat that the shoes would not work for me due to foot swelling and my foot issues. The suede material should stretch a bit but the material along the sides of the foot are rubber and feel too firm for my comfort. This doesn't work for me as I have bunionettes that need more space and less pressure in shoes. Regarding the shoe length, I think the length is great. Structure - The low profile of the shoes is nice like a regular climbing shoe. The sole and toe part of the shoes are thick, durable and firm. They would definitely provide excellent foot protection on all terrains. The heel cup is really comfortable without socks. There is no arch support. Overall, these are solid approach shoes for people with 'normal' feet.
Great structure for hiking any trail. I would recommend sizing up if you have wide feet to give some room as they are quite structured. But it makes for a great shoe! Got a few blisters the first hike but not after.
I bought these shoes for my climbing trip to Red Rock. My street shoe size is 6.5, and I have thin, narrow feet. Initially, I upsized to a 7 based on most reviews, but they turned out to be a bit too long. I then exchanged them for a 6.5, which fit perfectly—I can still fit one finger in when wearing them. They are indeed narrower than other hiking shoes, but that works fine for me. I wore them to work for two days, trying to break them in before my trip. They felt firm at first but became noticeably more comfortable by the time of my trip. Overall, I'm really happy with the fit and feel!
