Not real protective soles.

These are fine for general wear out and about or in bad weather. For hiking, however, I found them to be marginal for rocky trails because the sole is thin and I felt every rock I stepped on pushing up into the bottom of my foot. After a few hours of a rocky trail in the Olympics I found my feet were tired from the rocks and roots pushing into them and the flexing of the boot sole over the terrain. If you are a serious hiker, I would recommend something with a more sturdy sole.

Great versatile boot

I purchased the Cottonwood Mid hiking boot a few weeks before a two week trip to Guatemala. I used them on a few hikes before leaving and all was well. I have now returned from my trip and these boots were perfect. We hiked everyday, all of the hikes included steep inclines and decents. My feet never hurt and I was able to maintain traction on all surfaces. I definitely made the correct purchase with these boots!

Not Oboz’s Best Work

I was looking for a “comfort-first” light hiking boot. While I found these to be true to size, they are a bit snug in the toe box. Also the heel area feels rather hard and stiff. They also seem to have a pronounced arch support, which may suit those with higher arches. I own a pair of Oboz Bridger insulated boots. Those are much more comfortable and have a better fit.

Crazy Hiker

I’ve always wear the Sawtooth to hike in but I needed a lite weight boot to work outside in, so I bought the Cottonwood. They felt good right out of the box and the more I wear them the better they feel.. They only bad thing they are leather and my feet does sweat in them but the comfort is worth it …
