It delivers! But worried how long it will last
The look and feel of this shirt are incredible, especially for such a high UPF. The material is fine and feels great when it's on your body. Unfortunately after the first wash (without wearing it), what I can assume was the fabric loop for hanging (where the tag typically is) was shredded and the stitching along the shoulder seam was already loose. I was hoping to love this, and it performed well on a hot and humid hike in the Sauratown Mountains but we'll see what the second wash does to it.
month review
I used this shirt every day for 31 days on the Camino Frances 490 miles great in cool and warm weather also fast drying was important since I had was wash every day
Excellent Ultra-Distance Sun Hoodie!
I purchased this for running Javelina Jundred 100k in 2024 just days before my race. I know the general rule of thumb is to not try new gear for a race, but with the temperature forecast looking to be at a record high for the race, I had little choice but to do something for sun protection. I found several sun hoodie options, but decided on this one since it was the only one with a lighter color and better for reflecting heat. This ended up being an absolutely amazing choice. For my top layer, I only wore this sun hoodie and my running vest. Despite the absolutely brutal temperatures reaching 98°F (36.66°C) and above for a blistering 62 miles of running, I came out without so much as a tan or single chafe mark!
Hands down the best, it's that simple
I was skeptical about all the buzz word tech that went into this shirt, but I decided to give it a shot because it could only be so bad. This was one of the best gear choices I made. After 20mi and 9hrs with a packed out 28L bag on me, 6k elevation gain and some 90%+ grades i bought another. I realized i didnt feel the need to shed layers or take breaks as often as I would expect. I was sweating so much less than I expected and when i was, i wasnt soaked to the bone. No chafing or anything. The only thing I want is more colors (so I can buy more) and maybe a pouch?
Hard to Clean - Stains Easily
Stains incredibly easily. I’ve never had a piece of clothing stain so easily. I’m not sure why because synthetic fabrics like this normally clean easily. My guess is it has some sort of coating. Literally every time I wash it I find stains on it that didn’t come out in the wash. I don’t have this problem with any other article of clothing, which is so odd. Luckily stain treating and rewashing does remove the stains, but it’s a total hassle. On the plus side it fits me better than any of the other options they had in the store. I plan to return to REI.
Sun Shield, Trail Companion, Everyday Comfort
The KÜHL Eclipser Hoody has earned high marks for cooling performance, sun protection, and comfort, especially in warm outdoor conditions. The graphene fabric innovation seems to deliver a noticeable cooling effect, and practical design choices like thumb loops and seamless construction add real value. If you’re active in hot or sunny environments—or just want a versatile, high-performance hoody—the Eclipser is a strong, modern pick. Just be mindful: if you plan to pair it with heavy gear, consider treating it gently. Love it!
for the ladies too
I’m 5’10 170lbs and the men’s medium fits great. A little loose which is nice for breath ability. Used in the Sandia mountains in Albuquerque to protect from the heat and sun. Looking forward to using in the Washington mountains this summer. So cozy I wear it around the house often too!
The hood is too small and fits weird
Love your Kuhl products thanks. Have 4 of your hoodies and three earn five stars (Acceleratr Airkuhl & Printed Airkuhl). The Eclipser falls short because by comparison the hood is small, fits weird, wants to fall off and doesn't shade my face. It appears to be a three piece hood as compared to your other five piece hoods which all fit much better. Get the fit of the hood right and the Eclipse would earn five stars because otherwise the design, construction, finish, fit & materials are top-notch.
Great mid and outer layer
This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I used these (I have 3) on two 10 day trips with lots of outdoor exposure. I like the weight of them because I can use them as a mid layer when cold, and outer layer when it warmes up. they are super compact so I can take them off and roll them up into my pocket if needed. The small hood provides some nice minor wind and sun buffer. They aren't meant for extreme cold but I did wear them as a mid layer in 29f morning weather in yellowstone as a mid layer and they were perfect as and outer layer when it warmed up into the 50/60's Only downside is they can get snagged easily and rip. I somehow caught one of the sleeves on a doorframe and ripped a small hold in one of them. Not sure how reparable they are but will try to sew it.
Perfect protection - keeps you cool & blocks sun
Went hiking in 100 degree heat and full sun conditions in Utah. The was the perfect choice to keep me cool and protected from the sun. Great fit too. Loose enough to allow air to flow easily for better cooling.
