Bought two pairs for my business trip. After 3 days of wear and 1 wash, both threading on the back pocket exact same spot came loose and one you can put a finger through. Would I buy it again? Heck no.
I've bought these to take with me as my everyday hiking pants when I hike the full Camino de Santiago this summer. I wanted to try them out for a few months before I leave and they do not disappoint. I'll be getting a second pair and have a rotation. They are lightweight, fast drying, super comfortable, fit beautifully, and -- bonus -- look amazing. As others have said, I could wear these to the office during the week. I'll review again after I've hiked 500+ miles in them over the Pyrenees mountains and across Spain to the sea! For reference, I am 6' 1" tall and about 212 lbs. The size that fits me perfectly is 34x34.
Sizing for these pants is inconsistent. I have 3 pairs and they are all different lengths. I contacted kuhl and they were not helpful at all.
I purchased the dark forrest version of these paints which I liked very much due to their elasticized waistband. I then ordered a pair of the "nocturnal blue" in the same size, only to find out that they do not have an elasticized waistband. So then I ordered a slightly smaller size in the waist hoping it was a sizing construction mistake, only to see that do not have any stretch either. I reached out to Kuhl and their customer service wasn't very helpful. So, will be returning the blue.
These pants can do it all. I’ve had these pants for several months and have been putting them through the paces in the mountains around Denali Park. They have held up very well and performed beyond expectations. I love the tapered fit and pocket placement. And the fit is, like everything made by Kuhl, perfect. They dry quick and feel great. Look forward to putting these on, every time. Not only are they great in the mountains, but perfect for casual and dress up occasions as well.
KUHL products have great quality….yes, they are expensive (at least for me), but well worth the money in my opinion. I wanted a comfortable and functional three-season hiking pants. After trying on several other brands, the KUHL Men's Renegade Recon Pants fit me perfectly and had the features I wanted. I’ve hike about 100 miles wearing them in the Rocky Mountains. They keep mosquitos off, are light enough to breathe, and yet warm enough for cool mornings. The features I like: charcoal gray, slightly tapered legs, nice large metal button closure with good quality zipper, fairly deep front pockets, front-right side zipper pocket for keys/phone, lower thigh pockets for my phone/knife (open top, but deep), wide elastic waist band with belt loops, and the DURALUX Fabric, which is comfortable and seems very durable. The only improvement I wish they had would be closures on the back pockets, they are a little shallow and just open at the top,…I don’t put anything in them.
I like the fabric and fit. A lot of reviews said “runs large” but I don’t they do. Very light weight.
First, I purchased a single pair, I wanted to check how they fit me, the material and what they looked like after being washed. I was very happy. Immediately ordered two more in different colors to wear in Europe. These were the only pants I wore over three weeks in Europe. They held their shape and stayed looking fresh. It was a situation where I could only get them washed one time, for me this was a test and they didn’t look like I slept in them, I rotated through three pair. I’d rather wear these KUHL Renegade re-con pants than jeans, jeans couldn’t have stood up to same same test. I’m really pleased.
I've been buying / wearing the RENEGADE from KÜHL since they came out over ten years ago and the new Renegade Recon is the best yet. The tapered fit looks and feels awesome. The waistband I'm used to seeing has been replaced with a new design which stretches in the back and is amazingly comfortable. I can easily see myself wearing these pants while traveling, hiking, or to the office. In fact, I wore them on my 11mi bike commute and they were actually better to ride in than my dedicated cycling britches. A couple more pairs are definitely in my future. For reference, I'm 5'11" about 200ish lbs. I generally like a short inseam and purchased the Renegade Recon in a 36" waist x 30" inseam which is what I usually buy. The fit was perfect so overall I'd say they're true to size.
I've always been a fan of Khul clothing and these pants don't disappoint. I have a couple of pairs of Prana pants, which are also good but weren't available in slim-fit style. These are a great alternative - with plenty flex for movement and lots of pockets, including a zipped one for keys. No problem carrying a large iPhone deep in the regular side pocket. I like the broader waistband for comfort. They are lightweight and although not waterproof, they kept Vancouver Island drizzle out and dry quickly. I bought them for camping but find myself wearing them as casual pants to the pub - they look great. Would definitely buy again.
