This bike has been nothing but awesome straight from the box! I’m a newbie and this bike has been able to get me out riding trails i couldn’t ride otherwise and making me really enjoy getting out and riding!
The price was right, so I purchased this bike from the Sandy, UT REI. I ordered it online and had it shipped to that store. It took about 1 hour for them to size the bike for me (they had to find a shorter dropper seat post to fit me). I would give them five stars except for some initial issues when I first tried riding the bike. When I took the bike from the store they told me that it was ready to ride so I immediately took it to a familiar MTB trailhead along the way to my daughter's house. It started to rain so I delayed my trial run. A couple days later when I returned to my home I tried it out on some familiar trails nearby. It seemed to boost for the first couple of peddle strokes and then the boost would cut out and then become jerky. I tried fiddling with the Bosch Flow App, making adjustments to the customized riding modes, but with no improvements. Then over the next two rides, when I tried to use the tracking capability that came with Flow, it came back with an error message "Speed Sensor Malfunction." Since I am new to E-bikes, I contacted the online help at Bosch. They told me that I need to have a speed sensor magnet mounted on either the rear wheel rim or the brake rotor. I could find no such thing on my bike, so I checked the bags of miscellaneous parts that the REI shop had sent home with me and found a magnet in one of the bags. I again contacted Bosch and they emailed me instructions on how to mount the magnet at the valve stem on the rear wheel rim. They explained that for my particular bike there is a sensor near the motor in the bottom bracket, that would detect the magnetic field as the wheel rotated. I then took my bike out for another trial run and what a difference that made, with smooth and consistent power delivery. The bike shop tech at the Sandy REI provided good friendly service but I think that he was somewhat lacking on his knowledge of the workings of the E-bike. But I would give the Bosch team 5-stars. Needless to say, I am now enjoying riding my new Salsa Mountain E-bike much more then when I first tried riding it.
I went to REI to purchase a bike. I had excellent service from sales and the bike tech. They were very patient with me as I changed bikes after thinking I found my new bike.
It was soooo nice, loved the way it worked on the trales
