Great shoes
Last year I bought a pair of the black for a spring trip to the pacific northwest. It rained at least part of each day and these were great shoes. They felt secure on ferry docs and busses, didn't get soaked through, and just really enjoyable for my primary shoe for the trip. So this year I got the blue pair for a trip to Southern California. We didn't quite get between rainstorms so again I had to deal with a combination of surfaces in wet and dry conditions. We also added cycling to the trip this year. Again they held up very well. I've gotten the same size as the Cliftons I wear for my daily walks at home and haven't noticed any squeaking except when I'm transitioning from the wet outdoors to polished linoleum.
Expected more from Hokas
I bought these a month ago before my trip to Japan. I was satisfied with them when I was wearing them in the US because I was wearing them only for a few hours at a time and not doing a lot of walking. However, I have been wearing them every day in Tokyo, 15,000+ steps a day, and they are rubbing on the outside of my toe box. I do not have wide feet at all, my feet are very normally sized. I do not have bunions. I expected better from Hoka. I’m perplexed why this style is so narrow. I really wanted to like these after having heard such great things about the brand from others. The style is so cute and I love the drawstring closure but I am disappointed in the comfort.
Amazingly comfortable but not durable.
I was very excited to purchase these in the purple color because of the easy slip on and casual aesthetic. I also enjoyed the feeling of it and the cushion was exactly what I wanted. Three months later, my mom got a pair in another color and I tried them on since we are the same size. I immediately noticed a decline in the cushion quality and I felt like I lost about half an inch of stack height from the cushion collapsing after three months. I am a student with a job that has me walk about 15000 steps twice a week, so I would not call my activity intense enough to warrant such a fast decline in the cushion.
Comfy, stylish and fun
they deserve 5 stars really but nothing can top my Cliftons comfort wise. However, these are way more stylish than any other hokas I've seen (I own 4 pairs too). They are still very comfortable, just not as cushy as Cliftons which is ok, because these are not as foamy, they look more sleek and go better with taper pants, jeans etc. I have bad knees and I found myself only wearing hokas. these work really well for shock absorption. They also come with a spare of regular shoe laces if you dont like the cord style. Which I am glad, because I prefer shoelaces.
Squeaky and wear down quickly!
I have had these shoes for 5 months. The left shoe squeaks SO SOUD. The back heel fabric is worn and so are the soles. Considering they are $150 shoe, I thought they'd last more then 5 months. There are so many better and more durable shoes out there.
Good walking shoe but poor ventilation
Great walking shoes but very warm. I wore them in Greece for 2 weeks and it was quite humid. It did not dry out so they now stink and need to be replaced. Only 6 months old. I'm rethinking this brand .
So squeaky, so uncomfortable.
What a bummer! Wore these around Norway and squeaked with every aching step. These were not comfy. Not sure if the lace system made them unstable on my foot...not sure if there's less cushion or support on these bad boys, but wow I hated them. My feet hurt after a day of walking, which is not something I usually (ever) struggle with. Swapped to my hiking boots b/c I couldn't bear these. FWIW I have a high arch but again, never really suffer from sore feet. And holy cow these things squeak. I tried EVERYTHING to make it stop. These are going back. This is why I buy from REI <3
favorite everyday shoes
I’ve been wearing Hokas since getting a diagnosis of sesamoiditis in one foot. I wear my regular size with custom orthotics and have the cream color (for 2 years) and the all black. The cream are cuter so get worn more often. I put them in the washing machine on cold/gentle and let them air dry and they get pristine clean again. They’ve worn a bit likely from the washing but still look and feel great. Width runs true to size and fits my custom orthotics. I want a pair in most colors!
Comfortable for Hiking!
I bought these because I usually wear a hiking boot for the trail. I wanted something that would feel comfortable but give me confidence on dirt/sandy/rocky trails. I took these for their first real bits of hiking at Zion and Bryce Canyon NP. They've performed well and I really happy about how comfortable they are. Plus now they have a nice little layer of red dust on them from Utah to bring back to California. I like the quick lacing system that comes with them and have stored the traditional laces in a drawer and doubt I will ever use them. I'd always had my eye on some Hokas after wearing Columbia or Merrell boots. I love them and would recommend them. Put em on your fee and find out.
Every Color fits a Little Differently
I love these shoes—with caveats. The eggnog color is the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Because of that, I ordered a black pair, and they DO NOT fit the same. The black pair are tighter on my feet and shorter. It is not an issue of wearing the black pair in either. The toe bed is also narrower. Quality control is lacking for sure. If both pair fit like my eggnog pair, I’d order a pair in every color, but sadly I guess I have to keep looking for the perfect shoe.
