Not user-friendly
Definitely not for me unless I worked in the city and was desperate for a lock because I stored my bike outside. The bike mount to store the thing doesn’t not fit on any of my 3 women’s bikes. I watched the video and I noticed the manufacturer also just used a pile to represent a bike. So if I want to use this lock I would need to throw it in my bag while not in use. I tried to u-lock it to my bike for storage and it’s too big so it gets in the way. In use and locked up it’s nice that it was a combo lock you. Can change, but in reality non-use is so cumbersome I’ll stick to my heavy duty cable lock.
Already lost because it came off my car
This lock didn’t even last one trip. I locked my bike to the car. Then I locked it to a railing. I locked it to the bike rack on my car to drive home. When I got home the lock had separated and part of it was gone. I use many different locks and I was hopeful for this one. The issue with this lock is it looks securely locked when it isn’t. I thought it was locked and I even changed the combo post locking, but the lock wasn’t locked and fell off my car.
KryptoLok Combo U-Lock provides piece of mind
I used my Kryptonite KryptoLok Combo U-Lock on the Michigan Technological University campus in Houghton, Michigan this fall. I like that this lock provides the security that I need and that it was easy to change the combination code. The cover that slides over the combination dial is a nice feature that protects the dial from mud and grit. I found that the lock was too large to mount on my small bike frame, so I carried it in my backpack. It is a heavy lock, so I plan to transport it using my bike bag in the future. I also plan to get a cable which will make it easy to protect both of my bike wheels.
Eaay to use light to medium duty u lock
Decently light to medium duty lock with a convient combination lock. A little bit bulky and heavy, this U lick uses a simple to set 4 digit combination code. It is the simplicity of the reset process that should clue in that this is not the lock to use on an expensive boke or for more than a few minutes to run into a store. The rsset mechanisms are plastic which leads ons to believe that they are easily defeated with common tools. As such, it does come with a simple strap bike mount that you can attach to a seatpost or frame.
A bike guard for when I have to leave it.
This is a hefty product. I could use it to protect my bicycle but I am sure it would be useful otherwise. I have no concern once I lock the bike with this but it is very heavy. I ride an ebike so it is less of a concern. Probably won't carry it when I am on my non-ebike. looks tough, feels tough and while I have not tried to damage it I think it would be a real challenge.
Tough lock and no key to worry about!
The Pros: This is one tough lock! I honestly cant imagine that someone could cut it unless they had a grinder. I personally don’t trust most locks for extended periods but have no problem in this case. The other big pro is that its a combo lock. I have a similar lock that uses a key and have found it hard to keep track of the tiny thing. Finally, I have a couple of bikes that run plus size tires. I was happy to see that it was big enough that I could get the lock through the frame despite the wide tires. The cons: The only downsides are the weight and the mount. The weight is not uncommon with tough locks but it does make it cumbersome. The mount is somewhat flimsy and i found it confusing to mount. All in all, i recommend this lock if you are willing to carry the extra weight for extra security. 2ndly
Hassle-Free U-Lock
I’ve had a few U-locks over the year but have always stuck to a cable lock because of the hassle of having to remember the U-lock key and finagle it on to get it perfectly lined up. This U-lock eliminates this issue with a very easy to enter four digit code and how the base of the lock slides on either direction. Super easy to set code out of and then just use without all the hassle.
KryptoLok Combo bike U-Lock
This lock is most appropriate for securing a bike while stored at home, or for commuting, e-bikes etc., as it's quite heavy and bulky. The combination lock eliminates the need for a key, and the number combination is custom selected by the purchaser. This lock comes with a mounting bracket that can be installed on the bike, or one's garage or wherever stored at home. Pro's: 1. the ability to set a custom combination, 2. sturdy construction, and 3. reasonable amount of security for the frame and perhaps rear wheel. (Would need an added cable to run through front wheel, or perhaps even both wheels, depending on bike setup and location where it's being secured) Con's: 1. Heavy weight, and 2. bulky size (need a good-sized frame, or rear rack etc. or carry in a backpack while riding) 3. The tumblers for selecting the combination numbers are kind of glitchy, have a rough, "cheap" feel, especially the last digit. 4. A minor issue for some, but the only instructions are on-line, and the website instructions are in VERY fine print, making it hard to read even on a large computer screen. Printing off instructions doesn't help, as font size can't be increased. Overall, an OK lock for the price, where/when the size and weight isn't an issue.
High quality u lock
This is a great u lock. I’ve had great luck with kryptonite u locks, high quality and easy to use. I’d never had a combo one and was happy with how easy it was to change the combo. Fits around bars I’ve come across for both mountain and road bike.
Heavy and bulky for the security level
Pros: easy to set a custom combination, nice option to register the combination with Kryptonite in case you forget it, seems moderately secure, pretty affordable. Cons: very heavy and bulky for a lock that the manufacturer rates a 6/10 security level, and removing the lock from the mounting bracket takes a bit of muscle (though I guess it won't come loose on the road!). Overall, for the use recommended by the manufacturer (locking up for 1 hour in urban areas) I'm not sure it's worth dealing with the size and weight of this lock.
