Simple and Warm
A straightforward simple design.equates to warmth and comfort. Very practical insulated camp bootie. Compresses to a small size and comes with two elastic straps for packing. The elastic bands above the ankle keep the elements out, but don’t constrict circulation. The sole of the bootie has an anti slip material, but doesn’t appear to be intended for anything but minor walking around camp. Kept my feet warm, but breathable. Well constructed.
The cons outweigh the pros
These booties have some nice qualities, but the issues with them outweigh the benefits, and I would not recommend these to a friend. The pros: they are warm, lightweight, the bottom is more rugged than expected, and they aren't "sweaty" I used these for a week at a 9000ft cabin, with lows in the 30s and 40s. Feet stayed warm, and, unlike an old pair of down booties I have, my feet didn't get sweaty. This is a HUGE plus. The bottoms don't have tread, but they are "nubbly", which provided fine traction for walking around the cabin and short forays outside. I don't think these would work at all in the snow, but that's not what they are intended for. Walking around on wet ground after a rain, and my feet didn't get wet. The cons: poor design in the foot box, and in the elastic at the top. As I put these on, the material on the sides of the foot area gets in the way. The seaming is noticable and lumpy. Once I get my foot in and situated, the seaming aound the entire foot still feels lumpy and awkward. But that is a minor annoyance compared to the elastic cuff at the top. Within two minutes of wearing, the ridge of melted plastic that finishes the elastic to prevent unraveling had produced a sore on the back of my calf. So, I tried wearing them with the cuff folded in, which prevents the scraping, but makes the booties slip down the ankle/foot. The only way I could comfortably wear these was with socks, and then the rough area snagged on my socks. I could cut that part out of the elastic, but am worried it would then fray, so I will stitch a covering over the rough spot. While these have some positives, on the whole they are outweighed by the negatives. With some redesigning in the foot box and ankle, these could be good winter/cabin lounge booties, and are light enough to warrant taking on a hut trip.
Great warm and light slippers
These slippers are super warm, and comfortable like oversized socks, with a rubber sole. The sole could be a bit more supportive, but they are light enough where it works for backpacking and cabins alike. I loved them for after wet wading when I was warming up by the river after it started raining.
Cute and cozy, but maybe not practical for camp
I had hoped these would be snug and great for use indoors and lightly outdoors however they don’t fit tightly and although they have a sole it is thin so I would not suggest them for outdoor wear beyond a patio. I love the color and they do keep my feet warm. Not having a snug fit it makes it difficult to walk around, it feels more like a shuffle. I wear a size 6 normally and the size small felt too big. These would be great for lounging in your cabin getaway on cold evening or chilly mornings.
Good for camp use or around the house on carpet
Very comfortable with extra padding such as socks or slippers worked inside. I was at the smaller end of the L size and I found the elastic band provided along with my Smartwool socks made for a nice comfy fit. Was great for protection when I needed to jump out quick for something from tent door to facilities or when I wanted to not be barefoot around the camp. Did a good job of keeping my feet warm at night or short jaunts around camp with socks inside. Downside. These are NOT for stand alone use or hiking of any kind. Without anything added like socks or slippers you feel every pebble and only carpet or plush grass is doable.
Exped Camp Booties Warm and Comfortable
Ironically, I took delivery of my EXPED Camp Booties on one of the warmest days of the year, so it will be hard to write a timely review testifying to their warmth. Ironically, I took delivery of my EXPED Camp Booties on one of the warmest days of the year, so it will be hard to write a timely review testifying to their warmth. I liked the minimalist packaging, 1 in. elastic straps holding them to a solid piece of cardboard. I will recycle the cardboard and I'll find a use for the sturdy straps. Shell and liner seem to be made from the same material, per EXPED recycled polyester. It feels nice to touch on my hands and on my bare feet while wearing them. The shell is not sewed through the liner, so there are no thin spots. I appreciate the inside cuff around the ankle, preventing the foot from moving around and external cuff to prevent snow or cold air to come in. One concern I had about the soles was whether they would be slip resistant. They definitely are. It's a nice touch that a 1 in. strip the sole material goes around the entire boot, between sole and shell, preventing damage to the shell by sharp rocks or twigs. I'm a bit concerned about the thickness of the innersoles, they might not provide enough insulation when walking or standing on snow. I would be very careful if your camp is surrounded by brambles, while the shell material feels sturdy enough, it is also thin. My intended use is mostly for winter activities, so brambles will be covered by snow. Taking one point off for the relatively thin innersole and the shell possibly sensitive to ripping. Other than that, this seems like a great way to keep your feet warm around camp during the cold season.
Wonderful for Fall weather
These are wonderfully lightweight and comfortable, and they are very similar to a barefoot shoe in my mind. The sole is thin enough that I get a lot of "ground feel" when walking around, but thick enough for a bit of protection. I prefer them for lounging more than walking around, but they are very comfortable and warm down to around 40F.
Cute & cozy but odd fit
I love the cute turquoise color, that they’re cozy, that they pack down small, and that you can wear them outside. I don’t quite love the fit - the heel area of the bootie is too big for me (even though the length is perfect for me) so the back of the slipper drags on the ground when I walk. Overall I like these slippers…but I wish the heel didn’t drag in the dust!
Fantastic camp booties
I took these booties on a 4 day 3 night backpack in Denali National Park. Temps at night ranged from 35-45 ⁰F. Conditions were wet. My feet stayed warm, I did wear loose wool socks as well. I really like how lightweight and compatible they are. The soals have a textured coating that is great for stepping out at night or walkingg around camp. Overall these are a great product, I really liked the textured bottoms, their light-weight and kept my feet warm. I have no doubt they would be warm with colder temps. With it being late August temps here in Alaska haven't dipped below freezing yet, when they do i'll do further testing.
Great - except ...
A great bootie - except - The insulation on the sole really isn't good enough. I finally fixed mine by getting some sole pad inserts and using fabric tape to secure them inside the booties. Now my feet are nice and warm even after extended time on very cold floors.
