Well Thought Out Duffel Bag
I was a big fan of this bag. I planned to use it to haul ski, snowshoe and biking gear. This requires a bag that can travel, both in cars planes and trains. It also has to be well made to deal with rain snow and dirt. Obviously whatever size bag you get will determine how much space there is, but this one could easily fit my ski boots as well as ski jacket, pants, gloves helmet etc. I took it on a couple snow trips thanks to some early season snow storms. I was particularly impressed by the oversize handles connected to the zipper. It made opening and closing the bag with gloves on very easy. To accurately review the bag I also tossed it around a bit more in the snow than I normally would. Afterwards I threw it in the car to let the snow melt to see how water proof it was. I put some dry tshirts on top to see how much water would get in and was impressed to see them completely dry by the time I got home. I even tested it in the shower to get an idea of a true downpour and the only part that seemed to bleed water into the bag was along the zipper. I wasn’t expecting a full dry bag of course so this was pretty impressive. I also liked the smooth sides of the bag. When mountain biking dust was very easy to wipe off. The next part of the bag was probably my favorite. It has two shoulder straps that connect with clips to make it into a back pack. What’s unique about this bag however is that the straps are firmly attached to the bag but slide into their own recessed pockets. This means that when you are flying you can easily stuff the straps away so you don’t have to worry about it getting caught somewhere in the baggage carousel. But since they are attached you don’t have to worry about losing them or digging through the bag when you pick it up at baggage claim to find the removed straps. My only critique is that while it is very easy to take the straps out, they require a bit of finesse to stuff them into the pockets. The receiver ends of the clips also aren’t the easiest to removed but they aren’t impossible. The bag also did not seem to come with a larger shoulder strap but you can easily use one of the backpack straps to carry it across your chest if you are overloaded and can’t wear it on your back. The straps also have a decent amount of padding to make carrying the bag around much more comfortable that simple fabric straps. While I wouldn’t plan on taking this bag on a 25 mile backpacking trip, and it would certainly be heavy if you loaded it up to 50 pounds or so carrying it through the airport and train stations or from trailhead to backcountry ski spot is easy and comfortable at about 20 pounds or less. Overall I think this is a great bag for traveling and hauling gear. I could easily seeing this as a main bag for a long adventure filled trip through South America with a combination of planes and buses and plentiful outdoor activities. It’s pretty waterproof, easy to clean and has comfortable clever backpack straps. Obviously I can’t speak to the durability of the bag since I’ve only had it a month but it seems well made to last a while.
Large Duffel with convertable staps
The Gregory Supply Duffel has exceeded my expectations of it's portability. Its large size allows for maximum storage, but with the backpack style straps it allows for it to be transported easily. When not in use the straps and buckle conveniently store away in almost complete hidden compartments. The two main zippers have large plastic handles that are easy to grab and make it a breeze to open/close.
Lightweight, Quality Bag with All the Extras
Sometimes an item just shouts "quality" from the second you start handling it. Maybe it's the smooth zipper pulls with the oversized T handles for easy use with gloves. Maybe it's the durable materials and precise stitching. Or maybe it's the padded, reinforced bottom and well thought out design. But you pick it up and think "yeah, this is a cut above". If you haven't guessed by now, that's exactly how I feel about this bag. The storable straps tuck away nicely, including the attachment points, so there are no snag points if you're using it as a checked luggage piece. And they deploy just as easily so you you can have it on your shoulders and be moving within a couple seconds. The straps have the right amount of cushioning for about 30-35lbs but past that you probably want a waist belt anyway. The bag itself is just the right blend of minimalist and featured. I like that it stores in it's own zippered pocket when not needed and the straps/handles are padded properly. For a few extra ounces, it's nice to have. I included a couple of pictures of it loaded up for ice/mixed climbing. Make no mistake, this is a LARGE bag and easily fit boots, crampons, ropes, rack, helmet etc and had plenty of room left over for another rope or some belay layers. I also included it in the back of my Subaru Forester for a rough size comparison. The fabric is thick enough I trust it with cam wires, rough edges and maybe a duller ice ax point. Ice screws might be a bit much... While not waterproof, I had no qualms about tossing the bag in the snow and think it would make a great ski bag for the family. In my less gear oriented trips, it's made a great toy hauler for the 9 month old and will be coming to Mexico later this year loaded with diapers, clothes and toys.
learning curve for backpack mode!
Winter sports/trips call for a bigger duffel to organize everything. This one packs down well for storage or bringing as an extra bag, but didn't feel as roomy inside as I was expecting. After adding 2 70M ropes, mountaineering boots and a sitting pad, it was starting to get pretty full. I mostly carry my duffels using the backpack strap option, and spent a lot of time trying to figure out whether I had received a defective bag, but it turned out that the bottom clips are just very discreetly placed into small pockets, which is a nice feature for when you need things to be streamlined like if this is going to be checked luggage. The bag sat out in the snow without much drama, but overall the material felt a little flimsier than my black hole and similar bags. If I were going to be using it for a flight, I would want this filled with lighter gear. For a pack that seemed almost as big as I am, it was fairly comfortable to walk around backpack mode. This checks my major boxes, but would really excel in a more durable material with a couple more organizational pockets.
Lightweight
I probably would have passed on this bag if it was in a store where I could touch it. The material doesn't seem as rugged as other brands. I bought this to use for checked luggage for an upcoming ski trip. I don't think it will hold up to numerous run ins with baggage handlers. The backpack straps hide out of the way when not needed. The buckles for the straps are very hidden to prevent snags. I hope it outlives my expectations now that I've seen it in person. Probably will use it most for car trips.

Great bag
This bag is a powerhouse. Great functionality and packability. We have used this as a 'backup' bag to travel twice recently. Both times it was needed and perfect. Shell is tough, packs to slightly bigger than a puffy jacket would. Held up on a recent surf trip with flying colors. Water and sand were zero issue, I'm sure snow will be the same. Only downfall is that I wish the straps became shorter more easily. Needing to stuff them in to the sleeve is bizarre and awkward.
