Interesting Crocs alternative, simple, no-frills
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. They look like Croc alternatives and pretty chunky when I donned them on my feet. Reminded me of Mickey Mouse shoes or bubble-like shoes. I wore them without socks around the house and my feet started to feel like they would sweat so I think it's a good idea to wear these with socks. I got the Ales Grey Frontline Pro Slip-on Shoes in size 6 Men's / 8 Women's - they fit lengthwise but when I have the back strap on my back ankle, it doesn't do much or catch on. I typically wear size 7 Doc Marten's, SALOMON boots in 6.5, Converse size 5 men's or size 6.5 women's. Generally I am probably more a size 7.5 in other brands so I assume that's why size 8 in these shoes might fit just be a tiny bit big, and I speculate hence why the back strap wouldn't hold on to my ankles. I will use these around the house and maybe in the pottery studio or when washing my car/bike as it'll be water resistant (water proof even?) and easy to wipe or hose clean.
After Hike Comfort, Coming Right Up!
These are great shoes for decompressing after a long day on the trail. The fit is very comfortable with or without socks, though there was some rubbing on my upper foot that resulted in a blister when wearing without socks. The shoes do not have any breathability so my feet were more than warm enough without socks. This could be a negative if it is warm out as my feet did end up sweating on a warmer day. Thick socks do not fit well. I have a wider fit and the fit was fine with no or thin socks. The toebox is spacious allowing for great toe spacing. The removable insole is extremely comfortable and hugs your foot in a very supportive way. It seems durable as does the rest of the shoe. Without the insole the fit is sloppy and my foot slides around too much for the shoe to be functional. This may be fixed with thicker socks.
A triumph of function over form.
Look, these shoes are not going to win you any style awards. They’re, to be kind, very stupid looking. My wife (who is much more style conscious than I) tried them on and immediately said “I hate how much I love how these feel.” However, your feet will thank you for tolerating their appearance. The trade off is incredible comfort. After a lot of extended walking over the summer, I was having some persistent foot pain. Wearing these when I came home for the day provided instant relief as well as longer-term recovery. They’re the same kind of molded EVA foam as other, similar products, but seem to have much thicker soles (and thus more padding) as well as an insole that provides arch support on top of the squish. I have a hard time imagining a purer distillation of this kind of shoe. I wear them as house shoes, but they’d be fine for the campsite and such as well. Basically anywhere you’re willing to risk being seen wearing the foam equivalent of Dutch wooden clogs.
Comfortable and Lightweight
These shoes are extremely comfortable! The inserts make my feet feel very supported as i do work outdoors and hike. I used these shoes to do a planting at work and they fit well and the heel is tall enough that dirt doesnt get in as easily. Again these shoes are like walking on a cloud, the insert is thick and comfortable. NThey are lightweight, but a little more bulky just due to their size and needing extra space for the inserts. Even with their size, they would be lightweight and easy to clip the back straps on a backpacking pack as needed. I got a size up and it fit perfectly with my socks, with the inserts I would recommend anyone either try them on first or size them up if you can't go into a store.
OK shoe in theory, not quite what I was hoping
The shoes are not quite what I was expecting. They are like a rubber clog, but not quite as light weight as I was hoping for camp shoes. They are also quite large and bulky. It's nice that the insole is removable so that you can wash them. I think I am going to change my purpose for them and rather than use them for camp shoes when backpacking, I will just use them for gardening and yardwork since they are easy to rinse off. there are a few points that give me blisters if I wear them too long so they are definitely just something to slip on around the house for me. Another shaped foot might like them better because they do appear to have good support, it just doesn't hit me in the right places. They are just not quite what I was hoping for.
Great all around slip-on that makes you look tall
These are good comfortable everyday slip on shoes. I'd say it runs one size larger (normally I wear 10 but 9 was more than enough. I like how you get couple inches of height since soles are pretty thick - it makes you look taller/comfortable hill support.
Runs large
The product seems durable and well made. Unfortunately they run large. I also wish there is more ventilation because my feet are typically sweaty. The footbed was extremely comfortable. I didn’t particularly like the look. The blue footbed is comfy.
Comfy all day
Besides not being a fashion statement, these shoes are so comfortable! I've been wearing them for the last two weeks doing everything from yard work, evening walks, running errands, and standing at work for 10hr days. They're squishy, have great arch support, cradle your feet, and are easy on and off. The only drawback is there are no vent holes and they are made plastic, so your feet will get sweaty if you go sock-less. I wore a thin merino wool sock and it's perfect for summer.
SUPERIOR ALES GREY
The ALES GREY Frontline Pro Slip-On shoes truly stand out as unparalleled compared to any other chef footwear I've previously owned. The level of comfort they provide remains unwavering even after enduring extensive 14+ hour days of continuous standing. Despite my flat feet and bunions, I am delighted to report that I have not experienced a hint of discomfort thus far. The precise sizing of these shoes is commendable, as they fit true to size, contributing to the overall comfort and ease of wear. Beyond their remarkable comfort, these shoes boast a versatile sense of style that seamlessly transitions from the bustling kitchen environment to various settings outside of it. Anticipation brims within me for the next colorway release, as I am genuinely eager to acquire each iteration. In sum, the ALES GREY Frontline Pro Slip-On shoes have undoubtedly redefined my expectations for chef footwear, combining exceptional comfort, impeccable fit, and captivating style into a singularly remarkable package.
Great for comfort
Really enjoyed the comfort that this shoe provides. I spend a lot of time on my feet and that is extremely important for me. I also like the idea that the shoe is 100% sustainable bc the way things are going we need to do everything in our power to preserve the planet.
