It works...and others in our group noticed!

I have broken my review up into two sections - first the product and its function, and second the installation. I received this product for free through the REI advisor program. This is not a product I would have purchased for myself because I had initial doubts about how well it actually works versus the retail cost. I was surprised, the product actually does work. It boosts your cellular signal and doesn't require linking your phone or anything to the antenna, so others around you also get the benefit. Others in my offroad group asked what the antenna was for, and that when they realized they had more cell phone reception that usual. To be fair, we still eventually lost cell phone reception at times; however the signal was improved and cell signal was much less frequently. This is import because I use internet apps through my phone for music, rather than pay for satellite radio. So, I had tunes for the majority of our off road adventure! The Installation - This is where my rating was reduced. The overland kit is designed to attach to mounting points such as a roof rack. My Jeep doesn't have a roof rack; so we opted to install it on my Mopar Oversized Tire Carrier because it has a CB antenna mount. The CB antenna mount's hole was too deep for the supplied hardware so we improvised with some spare hardware we had laying around. The roof rack mount would be cool, but I didn't have an easier to install that on my Jeep without a roof rack. Because of the location of the mounting, the antenna is lower than the top of the Jeep; however a branch could still make contact with the antenna and bounce it into the top (see picture), so we used some foam padding with 3M adhesive to prevent scratches to the top. We ran the coaxial cable through the tailgate and hid it under the carpet to the receiver. We installed the receiver under the passenger, nice and out of the way. The Coaxial cable was plently long enough to run from my back tail gate to underneath the passenger seat. I ran the power cable from under the rear seat up through the center console and the plug to the cigarette lighter. All of this part of the install was easy and straight forward. Why does it have to use the Cigarette Lighter? I would have preferred an option to directly wire this into an ignition power source. I don't like having permanent installation items plugged into my cigarette lighter because it interferes with the sway bar disconnect button as well as the front and rear lockers switches in my Jeep. I don't like have cables and wires cluttering up my interior space either. Overall, I am glad that I have this installed on my Jeep. If you need cell phone signal; this will certainly help. Lack of cell signal is not typically a pain point for me; although in an emergency it could make the difference.

I am honestly impressed with the performance...

I just received this WeBoost Cellular Booster for my overlanding truck (Colorado ZR2) and installed it this past weekend. I have been looking into these Cellular boosters for some time but just haven't pulled the trigger until recieving this device from REI. The installation was pretty straight forward. The only modification I had to make was to the T-Track adapters for the outside antenna. The ones provided were too wide and would not fit my RSI Smart Cap T-Slot rails, so I had to grind them down a bit to fit. No big deal. I originally ended up using the long section of the antenna to mount to the Overland Mounting Bracket provided with the kit but eventually removed it and went with the shorter section and the spring, and it did not effect the performance of the unit at all. I live in the Vail valley, Colorado, surrounded by mountains so the cell signals here are not that great. Poor reception and dropped calls is just the norm, regardless of carrier. The primary area I chose to test this unit is a road that leads from my house deep into the White River National Forest on Brush Creek Rd. I know, from experience, exactly where I will loose cell service when headed out to the back country and usually depend on my Garmin InReach Mini for back country communication. I drove until I had only one bar indicated on my phone and pulled over. I then used the WeBoost App to test my signal strength and I was at -117db. I then turned on the booster and immediately noticed the signal indicator on my phone go from 1 to 3 bars. I then checked my signal strength on the app and it read -91db. A pretty good increase in signal strength. I made a couple of calls to freinds and had no issue with dropped signal or difficulty in hearing the other person I was talking to. I was impressed so far. I then drove around town to different locations, watching my signal indicator on my phone to find spots where reception was spotty and then repeated the same test. What I found is that in some locations where I only had 1 bar, the app would not register very much gain in signal strength, but my phone would still jump from 1 to 3-4 bars. When I was in an area with 2 bars the WeBoost would give me a good boost to full signal strenght indication on my phone. So, I would have to say honestly that this cellular booster does improve my signal strength and the effectiveness varies depending on the area that I am in and I'm not sure why this is. I assume it has to do with other factors that my layman's testing cannot factor in or interpret. Overall, I am happy with this device, and would recommend it to others. It is not a miricale device that will give you a signal where there is none, but it will improve the existing signal and clean it up enough where you will notice an improvement. So far, while using the WeBoost, I have experienced less dropped calls and better reception. I do a lot of overlanding/camping in areas both in and out of cellular range, and look forward to further testing, and enjoyment, using this device. My installation: Outside antenna mounted on rear of my RSI Smart Cap. Booster mounted behind rear seat of my crew cab. Inside antenna mounted below dash on door pillar, driver side. No issues with feedback loop or oscillation. (The reason I mounted outside antenna as far back, and away from inside antenna, as possible.)

It really works!

I was super hesitant to spend so much money on something I wasn’t sure was going to work but I’m happy to report that it works great! A few notes: Pros: - improved data speeds - having service in areas that I didn’t before - relatively straightforward to install Cons: - the mount that goes on the roof rack needs some work. I have a frontrunner roof rack and had to widen the holes on the mount so that M8 screws could fit. I also had to modify the little holder and trim the sides so that it could fit on the side channel of my rack. Overall, depending on your roof rack setup this could be really easy to install or it might take some tinkering. Outside of that the antenna really works and has given me service in areas I didn’t have service before. My carrier is AT&T.

Worked great on my Taco with minor modifications

Vehicle: 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, heavily modified for off-road use. Primary Purpose: Off-Roading, Overlanding, and Camping. Method of Testing: Three SpeedTests at three locations on both the T-Mobile and Verizon Network using an iPhone X (T-Mobile) and Google Pixel 5 (Verizon). Note: The Verizon network/coverage is much better in Montana than T-Mobile. Results: 1) T-Mobile without weBoost average was 3.97 Mbps, T-Mobile with weBoost average was 4.11 Mbps. 2) Verizon without weBoost average was 11.12 Mbps, Verizon with weBoost average was 11.69 Mbps. 3) In a remote "no service" area (Pryor Road), T-Mobile did not improve. This is expected given there was likely no signal in the first place. 4) Verizon with weBoost in the same remote "no service" area gave me .26 Mbps and .51 Mbps when on, and no service when weBoost was off. This was unexpected, and appears to be the result of the fact that although my cell phone could not detect a signal with the weBoost off, it did detect a signal (however weak) which was then amplified when the weBoost was on. It allowed me to make calls and send/receive text messages, and very slow webpage loading (400-500 ms), when I otherwise would not have had service. Installation: 1) Installation was relatively straightforward, but the mounting hardware for the overland mounting bracket needs improvement. The fasteners provided did not work on the Tacoma OEM bed rails. The 4 fasteners were too long, and the four other fasteners were way too short. I had to cut 3/8" off of the longer fasteners to make it work. I botched the first one with a cutting wheel, and it mushroomed out so I had to cut it again and it was too short. The next try I used a hacksaw and carefully made my cuts, which worked well. weBoost should consider providing two additional fasteners (that aren't as long) for OEM bed rails. 2) The overland folding mounting bracket with rotating base plate is very nice and sturdy. I had to rotate the base plate horizontally so that I could mount it on my OEM bed rail with two fasteners. Simple enough with a 5/32 allen wrench (not provided), I removed the four screws on the base plate and rotated it 90 degrees and then re-installed the screws. Mounting the base on the bed rail allows me to stow the antenna under my tonneau cover for city driving, and so nobody steals it. When off-roading I remove my tonneau cover anyway to get access to my Max Trax and other recovery equipment in the bed of the truck. With the tonneau cover removed, I simply pop out the locking mechanism on the base and rotate the antenna 90 degrees perpendicular to the truck, and then lock it back in place. The spring is very well made allowing for some movement when the antenna makes contact with branches. However, it doesn't move too much with normal driving or wind resistance. It is enclosed so you don't have to worry about dirt getting in it (very well thought out). 3) No hardwiring required, everything is plug and play and run off of the 12V cigarette lighter (major win). 4) I mounted my antenna with the locking mechanism facing the cab so that the coax cable exit (side exit adapter) was facing down to avoid dirt and grime from getting in it. I then routed the coax cable over the bed into my cab. I made a drip loop to prevent water and moisture from running along the coax cable and into the cab. I pushed the drip loop behind the weather-stripping between the truck bed and the cab. I will likely zip tie it later to be safe. I then routed the coax cable through the third door on the access cab between the rubber OEM conduit for the door. I then ran the coax cable along the trim under my floor mat and connected it to the red amplifier/booster which I mounted under a wood platform I created. I am going to rhinocoat the platform eventually. I mounted the internal antenna with velcro positioned next to the gear shifter facing the passenger seat. I then tucked all cables under the center console trim. My 2017 Tacoma has a wireless charger/tray. I was going to mount the internal antenna close to this tray since that is where my phone will be. However, I noticed slight interference from the wireless charger when the weBoost was on, so I moved the internal antenna further away, and do not have that problem anymore. Something to consider in newer vehicles. Summary: So is it worth it? Depends. Minor improvements were found in areas that had weak to decent coverage. However, the fact that I was able to get service when my phone didn't register any service at all is extremely comforting for emergency situations. I would not rely on this however. I have a Ham radio as most overlanders and off-roader's do which is great for emergencies. Note: The weBoost cannot boost a signal that isn't there (as in very remote areas or National Forest/BLM land, but it can boost a very weak signal (and in my case one that my phone didn't even register) so that you can make that very important call or text.

A must for adventuring

This is a great addition for anyone that likes to adventure to more remote areas. We live in Washington state (Pacific Northwest region), off road and camp frequently. Having a cell booster where there is little to no service gives additional peace of mind (we also travel with a Zoleo). Keep in mind it will only boost what’s already available (however minimal) so consider carrier, weather, terrain, etc. We’ve averaged an additional two bars of boost given our locations when using it. The installation was straightforward, we appreciated the multiple mounts which allowed us to attach to our vehicle ladder, and the included instructions were user friendly.

It works! Great addition to any overlanding setup!

We've been testing the Drive Reach Overland for a few weeks in the Colorado Rockies and have been impressed by the performance. While it's not a miracle worker the signal boost is noticeable. The installation in my 4dr Bronco was easy and you don't need to splice any wires or even drill (I drilled to run the 12v power cord to the outlet in the center console) depending on where you want to put the amp. I made a temporary external antenna mount on the rear bumper while I wait for a bracket that'll relocate it behind the rear spare tire carrier. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a more reliable signal in remote areas but with the expectation that the difference is usually 0-2 bars, enough to help but you're not going to be streaming 4k in an area where you'd otherwise be struggling for service.

Looks like an excellent all purpose kit, except...

Fair and square I received this WeBoost Overland kit to review. First impressions were fantastic! Great packaging, organized well, brackets, nuts, bolts, washers, double sided tape - seemingly everything has been thought out for a variety of mounting scenarios. Except mine. My SUV has a hardshell rooftop tent. The wedge/clamshell kind. And I throw a paddleboard up on top. So, what I need for an antenna bracket is to mount on to the RTT's mounting tracks. This product will do that, but has alot of monkeying around drawbacks. First off. Go to the hardware store and buy your own bolts. The included bolts are super too long and also the unthreaded portion is too long w/o a spacer. The other bolts are super too short for the very commonplace in overlanding mounting tracks/t-tracks. Dorking around with this, has the kit's Overland Antenna Mount only able to point to the sky. When rotating the antenna down, it's perpendicular to the vehicle. Calling WeBoost, they suggest part number 901104, a 3-way mounting bracket for $13.99. Which will sort of work, and I can possibly drill a couple holes in it to make it work, but it's the darkest days of Fall/Winter in the PNW and it's raining and my rig is parked on the city street (hence the desire to flip that antenna down in attempt to not call attention to it) and it's just a bit disappointing. So, that's part of the story. Secondly, if mounting the antenna on top of the RTT, as the RTT is deployed, antenna cable will spool out. When the RTT is stowed, the spooled out cable will need to be dealt with. So, again with the track mount fixed location. I have not yet used this equipment due to the aforementioned need to dork around with mounting the antenna the way "I" need it. And. It's not exactly overlanding season in the great Pacific Northwest - super wet, damp and chilly up here in December. From the looks of the WeBoost and the quality of the kit, my thought is it will work real good. It's just not as all inclusive as advertized.

Stealth range extender

I've been overlanding since the early 90's when it was called 4 wheeling and staying connected and safe has always been a priority. My buddy bought a We Boost system for his rig before a Baja trip down to Loredo MX and they were able to work remotely out of their rig the whole way by cell connection. I knew this was a great setup before I got it but the system is hard to tell if it's working since your phone bars don't change which figures, it just takes the weak signal and amplifies it. To test it we drove up a mountain that has notoriously bad cell coverage and it works! We could watch the how too videos from WeBoost with no hiccups the way up the road. At the top I did a speed test to see how much faster it connects with a faint signal and I'm very satisfied!! Download without 1.1 Mbs. With 9.4Mbs. Upload 1.2Mbs without and 6.5Mbs with. You still have to be in range of a cell tower somewhere but it's using the vehicle power to extend the reach 8X +. Very cool for peace of mind and remote work/camping opportunities in the future. I chose to get 3/4" screws and mount it to the crossbar racks so I can unscrew the cable and antenna from the bracket and stow it behind the seat between adventures. The install was easy too. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to increase your cell range and reliability on your overland adventures.

As Fitted to a 2024 INEOS Grenadier

Installed on a 2024 INEOS Grenadier, install is a breeze, function of the WeBoost is great, no drop outs between LA and Phoenix. The antennae holds up Offroad with the right amount of spring dampening. A great little unit all round, definitely a worthwhile purchase if you want to remain connected while on the trail.

Just what we needed!

The WeBoost does exactly what it says! It boosts our cell signal so we can stay connected when we are out Boondocking in our van. We find that we need our phones within 6 inches of the inside antenna to get the best signal.
