Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Great Boots!
The Altra Men's Lone Peak All-Weather hiking boots were a great buy! I found them in the REI clearance area and they've proven to be a great value for the money. The boots are extremely comfortable right out of the box. I have a pretty high arch and the boots feel very supportive of this condition. I really like the design of the boots that afford more room in the toe area. The boots are light but feel solid and supportive. I bought them for an upcoming trip out West and I'm looking forward to long days of hiking mountain trails.

Nice for about two months - Then they fall apart
I purchased these last spring '22 and didn't really start to wear them until this past winter, outside of two rain hikes. As someone who hikes 5-6 miles a day and worn Altra brand trail running shoes before, I was excited to try their all-weather boots. Two months into wearing them daily the sides near the where the shoelaces start cracked on both sides of both boots. Now I have new boots that get my feet soaking wet instantly in any moisture. If you are just wearing these for style, they are nice boots that look cool, if you use them at all for camping, hiking, treks, etc. I would strongly advise looking into a more durable boot.

May not be new or unused

The shoe is the exact size and model I wanted. Watch out that they are somewhat used though. Mine were obviously somewhat used. Was pretty dismayed that they didn’t come in original box and immediately suspected that something was going on. Shoes had been fully laced, didn’t have factory cardboard inserts, had some dust and a few hairs on them, and the soles showed wear marks and dark scuffing from being worn previously. I would not have purchased, even it outlet sale price, had I known this would be the case. First ever issue after all these years not getting a perfect product. Disheartening…

Good fit and comfort, poor durability

Pros: -Fit my feet great and provide a much better toe box. -They are lightweight and a breeze to hike in. -I found them to be pretty breathable -I have some orthopedic foot issues and these boot's are lightweight have a fairly flexible sole. Despite all this, I had no pain doing very long day hikes or hiking in these for a week with a 45 pound pack (I use the lighter weight smartfeet insoles). Cons: -Waterproofing is a joke. Only lasted a couple months before they started taking in significant moisture from the outside (not sweat). -Despite the comfort, very poor durability. I hiked less than 100 miles before significant seam breaks/stitching failures. Things got worse over the next 50 miles.

Two months in and I love them.

I live in Kentucky and hike local parks (steep rocky trails with deadfall and thick slippery mud after a rain). I also hike in The Red River Gorge where the trails are better maintained but are steep, rocky, and with patches of mud. Hiking in these shoes is like hiking in my slippers, except they give me the support and grip I need and are waterproof (so far anyway). I hike with two different packs, and when I am at my max weight I am carrying 65 lbs, usually though I carry 30 lbs. I absolutely love these shoes. With all the rocks the tread is holding up well. However, I have only had them two months, and while the trails are harsh on footwear, time will tell if all of a sudden they fall apart. So far no sign of that. If they do I will update this review.

Ultimate comfort for arthritic feet

This is my third pair of these; although the first pair is still good enough to wear (and broken in) I purchased an additional pair to be prepared. After that purchase I decided to have a pair in reserve because my everyday shoes get dirty. These are very comfortable, even for me and my arthritis-distorted feet. They are water resistant enough to handle a brief walk thru wet grass, but beware they are not muckers and will eventually saturate. The tread does wear down rather quickly compared to something heavy duty like Vibram but the comfort makes that acceptable to me.

Comfortable, but may not last the best

So I bought these shoes awhile ago. I find them to be extremely comfortable but did notice that some of the material by the ball of my foot started to seperate pretty quickly which basically got rid of the waterproofing (which for me isnt a huge problem but still is an issue) which ive noticed a few times if I need to walk through even a somewhat deep puddle. For the rain theyre still working great though.

Most comfortable boot/shoe that does NOT last.

Wish I could give Altras a 5 star but I can’t. Ever since they sold out a few years ago the quality has gone to waste. These LPAW’s lasted maybe 2-3 months of not even that hard of abuse. Just did a 9 mile hike in the San Juan’s and my wife LPAW’s basically fell apart. The water proofing is absolutely NON EXISTENT.

Great Traction & Comfortable w/ Limited Durability

They are extremely comfortable and the traction is fantastic. They do run about a half size small. I normally wear an 11.5 but I went with a size 12 and they fit nicely. The water proofing has actually worked for me for about one year. The biggest downside is that the durability is not what it could be. These are so close to being my favorite 5-star hiking boots but the durability issues need to be addressed especially given the higher price. On the positive side, the traction is still fantastic after over a year of use. However, some of the stitching has started to come undone after one year.

Comfortable not durable

Very comfortable, but not very durable. Loops holding the laces broke the second time I used them.
