Good except for some scratches
It was hard to find a quality review for this rack, but I risked it given the sale price. I have owned the product for about 3 months now. It fits a number of types of cars and trunks (check online at the yakima site to make sure it fits your car). Set-up required a visit to that website to determine how wide to adjust the rack to fit the trunk. After measuring once, I have not closed the rack entirely. It stores easily inside my trunk. The rack is solid and has space to hold 2 bikes. It takes me <10 min to place the rack on the back of my car and secure the bike in place. The straps are initially very difficult to lock on as the material is stiff, however after using it few times I have noticed they are easier to use. The bike is solid and doesn't shift at all. Overall, I have been a fan of this rack. It's pretty simple to use and my bike feels secure. The one negative thing I have noticed is some scratches appearing on my trunk where the strap feet are applied. It's mostly on the underside, so not very visible. The feet are padded, however that has not stopped the scratches. I am going to try to apply some bike protector tape to those areas and see if that minimizes the scratches.
Great, but
This is a rock solid bike rack. Easy to assemble and works quite well. But be advised that it has one serious issue. The rubber straps that hold the bikes to the frame are made of rubber, not velcro. They are almost impossible to use at first. After I read a few other reviews I realized that the specific holes, that fit whatever bike you have, will need to be stretched in order for them to fit over the locking hubs. I used needle nose pliers to both stretch and hold the holes open over a few nights. Now I can actually get the straps to work, but it will probably take a summer to get them stretched out enough so that they work well without major effort. It's unfortunate that the sales person and the instruction manual did not point this out. But aside from this issue it works very well and should last many years.
This rack will damage you, your bike, and your car
This rack is very stable. The metal hooks will damage your car, and if your bike has a thick top tube it may not fit on the rack. Also, if your top tube has any kind of slant to the top tube, you will need to buy an additional part in order to use the rack. The rack is made of texturized metal and will immediately damage your bike if your bike contacts any non-rubberized portion of the frame while you load and unload it. This is almost unavoidable unless you are 6 feet tall with good upper body strength, savant-level aptitude in spatial relations, and the grip strength of a young Hercules. My brand-new bike got badly scuffed before I even got to ride it! Not even going to mention the terrible closure system except to say that four of my fingernails are now torn and bloody around the cuticles.
