Probably 2.5 stars rather than three. This fit of this l/s crew was pretty nice as it has a relatively long torso which I find nice if tucked into snow pants or just wearing over jeans. The sleeve length was also nice. However, it seems as if it tapers from the shoulder to waist. If you prefer a fitted cut and have broad shoulders this would be the top for you. For style I certainly would have rated this l/s crew about a 4 out of 5. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the material. Even after being laundered it was incredibly itchy. I have had various wool base layers in the past but for me I couldn't get use to the feel/texture of the fabric on this one. Additionally, because it can't be put in the dryer so it needs to be placed flat to air dry. Also if you plan to hang it, you will need a large hanger to avoid having bumps on the shoulders from the end of the hanger. So while there is a lot to like about the style, the execution isn't for me.
FINALLY got some snow and cold weather and got to test this in 16 degree weather. The fabric is itchy and it does not feel good against your skin. I actually had to cut my walk in the snow because the itchiness of the fabric got so bad it was unbearable and I just had to get it off. Performance wise just wearing this base layer and a hoody kept me plenty warm while I took a stroll around my neighborhood, but I am pretty tolerant to cold weather so take this with a grain of salt.
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I'm 6'4 and the XL fits perfectly, especially the sleeves down my arms. With temperatures around 35 to 40 degrees I stayed warm and with a jacket makes it toasty for cooler temps. The alpaca wool makes it very comfortable and ideal for your base layer needs.
I am a big fan of wool for active winter activities for its technical properties, and this alpaca base layer does not disappoint. I've used it while hiking, cycling, and riding my motorcycle in cool weather, and it kept me warm and dry. I look forward to wearing it on the slopes. Alpaca is a great material for winter sports. It keeps you warm, is breathable, wicks sweat and stays warm even if wet. The material feels soft against my skin and was not itchy. It is said to be warmer than sheep's wool.
This is a great new brand that I discovered. This is great for the city during winter, and for outdoor activities for when its cold. Its very warm.
I received this product for review as part of a promotion. My first impression was the look and color were great When I put it on, the alpaca fabric was too itchy to wear. I hand washed it twice then tried it again but that didn’t help. This product needs better care instructions or softer wool to make it wearable. I wish I could wear it as it fits great.
