This is my fourth pair of North Face shoes. I use these to hike, and they are rugged enough to handle anything I will come up against in Florida. The multilayered overlays will protect my toe and forefoot from the jagged coral I sometimes run into. I love the design and the color scheme: very sharp, and much better than the rather clunky Hedgehog shoes I had before this. Just hope the waterproof FutureLight/DryVent membrane holds up. That was my issue with the Hedgehogs, which had a Gore-Tex membrane (North Face stopped using it in 2020). Based on everything I've read, FutureLight/DryVent is supposed to be a game-changer.
I own all the versions of NF Ultra Hiking Shoes: 109 through 112 and finally, after many years of trial and error, NF finally came out with the best one: The 112. They finally found a way to make a comfortable shoe that you can wear for 3 days straight without taking it off like I have done. The lace hole rivets don't dig into the top of your foot anymore. Unbelievable grip, even on the slipperiest of conditions. So waterproof you can stand in a flowing river for 30 minutes and have dry feet. I challenge you to find a more comfortable hiking shoe. They tighten up fine even for people like me with flat feet. Only negative is that my orthotic takes up enough space that there is minor slipping in the heal. The Ultra 109 to 111 were better with inserts. I did not need another hiking shoe but when I read the reviews of how great this one was--I had to jump on it before they were gone.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For awhile, I was going in for those trail runners. Actual runners; the very front of the shoe toes up. When I put these on for the first time, I realized that all of the runners I had, used a slightly smaller toe box. I suppose it did not bother me all that much but, what a world of difference. Letting my toes have some room to squirm. I do live a pretty active lifestyle with lots of walking and hiking. I believe these shoes to actually be waterproof. I have walked in deep snow, in puddles 3 inches deep, in driving rain. Most manufacturers make claims, but they delivered. I am almost aghast.
After two months of use, both shoes soaked through just walking through morning dew, leaving my socks wet. This is a daily occurrence. They say they have a waterproof finish, but they are certainly not waterproof.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm going to be wearing these to a bunch of raves/festivals and have always gone in some cheap vans where my feet get dirty or wet. After wearing these, I know my feet will be protected and it'll also go with all my rave fits!
On first try I feel comfortable wearing them. After I purchased and wore them for 5km. walking exercise I felt muscle tension. So I stopped wearing them few days and wore them for daily life except for exercise and when my legs and feet became familiar with them it has become very comfortable and protective. I wore them for 6 days tour in China on various weather and terrain condition without any fatigue. I bought 2 pairs of them US10 and 10.5. They are all great
I bought these superb shoes to hike the Utah National Parks, based on my past experience of wearing the same North Face Ultra in hiking the 8-mile Fairyland Loop trail in Bryce Canyon National Parks about a decade ago. The shoes were again incredible and extremely comfortable while being rugged enough to tackle the trails at Arches National Park. I highly recommend them once you find the right size for your feet.
I bought these and a pair of Salomons to compare, and these don’t even come close to the comfort of the Salomons. They TNFs are noticeably heavy in the toe box, to the point it almost feels like someone is pressing down the top of your foot with each step. The overall quality seems good, but I can’t imagine walking long distances in these. I’ll be returning them and keeping the Salomons (my third pair).
This show never under delivers! Waterproof all day (20 hours) in snow and slush. Feet were toasty with a thin merino wool sock. I have purchased over a dozen of the Ultra 112. I always have a brand new pair on backup in case my size is sold out. I break everything and wear out everything at the speed of light, but these shoes keep me in check!
I'm very fussy about my shoes. For a waterproof, slightly heavy duty sneaker these are comfortable right out of the box. Size is exact as far as length and toe box. Width works well with my wider than normal D width. I'll definitely buy again. I bought these because their walking sneakers are very comfortable and offer great support.
