Warm Pants
I dig all the pockets on these pants, and the zipper vents that zip in both directions. They are perhaps a little on the warm side for touring, I can see myself getting overheated in the spring in these. My favorite feature is the little mesh compartment in the hip pocket, I usually stash my car keys in it. Very nice elastic on the cuffs, helps keep the lever up on my older AT boots when climbing. *Zipper for the hip vent blew out on my 4th wear, hoping OR will hook me up with a warranty pair next season. Kind of bummed to have to finish the season in my old pair I bought these to replace. I was enjoying the fit a lot before they blew up.

Just what I was looking for!
I'm 6'2", 200lbs, 33" inseam, 35" waist. I bought a size Large and they fit perfectly. I bought these for winter fat biking because of the listed durability and breathability. I didn't care too much about warmth because I layer for conditions. Took them for a ride the day after they arrived. These are easy to put on and the adjustable waste is great when base layers start to take up space. These were SUPER comfortable in the saddle. The mildly articulated knees are great for pedaling. I took a couple of spills into drifts and never got cold or wet. Snow stayed out of my boots despite there not being a gaiter hook to attach to the boots.
Great idea, terrible fit
I love the pockets on these pants, the generous vents, and although I think it completely unnecessary, the waterproof lower leg is a cool idea. That being said, the fit of these is terrible. I'm 6'1, 160#s and I've always been a medium in pants, but when I got these, I felt like I was a kid wearing my dad's pants. How can you bill a pair of pants as for ski mountaineering and make them so baggy? I'm a ski guide and thought these could be the ideal pants, but I'll definitely be returning these and looking for something else. OR, please stop making lifestyle apparel for weekend warriors and go back to making functional outerwear for outdoor professionals.
Great pants but not for shorties
As an enthusiastic wearer of the original Trailbreaker soft shell pants for roughly 8 years I was really excited to order a fresh pair of these new Trailbreaker tour pants, especially in bronze. :) All the changes and features are great, even the pockets, which I was skeptical about because I’m so loyal to the old pockets (dedicated beacon pocket, 1 for phone, 1 for avy book - still works in new pants). New gator seems more robust than older mesh (tearing in my old pair). Fabric is soft, articulated knees. Here is the problem: they’re seemingly about 2 inches longer and baggier than my origin pair. They are both size Small. I am 5’5”, athletic. I loved the fit of original TB. I wish OR made the new ones in short inseam and/or offered XS. If you’re about my size, join me in the continued search for a replacement to my favorite touring pants ever.
Excellent backcountry pant
This pant adds a hard face to the 'below the knee' area which is more often in contact with snow and harder to dry out with body heat due to ski boots making a barrier. Doing so allows a bit more weatherproofing where need but maintains the freedom of movement by keeping the soft shell in the things and butt. The body areas covered by the soft shell are usually better at pushing the moisture out and keeps the soft shell dry, in my experience. I've logged only about 10-15 days so far - mostly backcountry but a resort day today. But I've used the full soft shell version of pant this pant for 7+ years, never thought I would want any change until I saw this pant. Very happy so far!

Tested skiing Denali, a perfectly versatile touring pant
I am an Outdoor Research employee and had the opportunity to wear test these pants on a Denali climbing/skiing expedition this spring. Choosing a single pant for a 2-week trip, versatility is arguably the most important part, and these lived up to every expectation. The soft-shell upper fabric is very breathable and dried out very quickly when wearing every single day while still providing plenty of water resistance. The waterproof lower leg fabric was perfect when trudging through snow after storms and added some great protection once we transitioned to climbing during rope work and while setting anchors. The angle of the pockets made them really easy to open when wearing a climbing harness and the lower leg pockets make it quick to stash items without even needing to touch your harness. After a two-week expedition wearing these pants every day, for everything, they are still in amazing condition. I plan on wearing the same pair this coming winter.
Best set of features for a backcountry touring pant
I own the older version of these pants, and was excited to see an updated version with a little roomier cut. I'm very particular about pants for ski touring, and like to have a softshell and hardshell pair depending on conditions. These are perfect for those bluebird or light snowfall days where full waterproof protection isn't needed, but the waterproof lower leg keeps you dry when its deep. Absolutely love the dedicated beacon pocket, and mesh inner pocket and clip to hold the beacon close to your leg. The fit is perfect, not too loose and not tight and restricting (5'9" 160 lbs, ordered Medium). The adjustable waist is great to dial in the fit, and really like the adjustable cuff. Pants seem well-built and durable, time will tell.

What are THESE!?
Worst fitting pair of performance pants, of any kind, I have ever worn. It’s like they designed them for Bigfoot’s BIGGER brother. Runs AT LEAST a size too big in the waist (and I’m compensating for base layers plus a waffled fleece upper mid layer) and the velcro side straps are basically worthless requiring you to use the belt loops which defeats the purpose of a pant like this by adding an extra layer/ridge to where the lower portion of your pack belt will put pressure. Length runs like an extra tall (I’m 6’) and absolutely non-functional in terms of leg volume/cuff width. I feel like it’s the early 2000’s and I’m wearing JNCO jeans. If you were hoping not to constantly drag and catch your skis or crampons on the inside cuff you are sorely mistaken. The only redeeming quality earning them two stars instead of one is that the thickness and construction blend of the textiles is very well designed - too bad everything else about them is just… embarrassing. OR, what have you DONE!?

Best snow pants, hopefully REI restocks
Great pants for those who run hot - the breathability is fantastic and the vents dump heat really well. That said they are perfectly windproof and I've been fine down to 0F with a medium weight base layer underneath. I use these for backcountry and resort in Colorado. It's mostly dry here so I haven't really tested the water resistance of the soft shell part, but it's been completely fine in light snow. Blower powder doesn;t work it's way in. Fit is relaxed, true to size. Fairly high waisted which I love. The only fit concern could be the size of the snow gaiter. It's a bit tight on my boots. No oversized baggy looks here but I think they look great anyway. Time will tell on durability. These are on the lighter side. That said brushing up on tree branches hasn't been a problem. I've had other pants get shredded before and these seem to hold up.
