I used the Smartwool Men's Smartloft Jacket outdoors in temperatures that were in the lower 40s to 50°. I used it for several hikes through the local forest preserve and while walking my dog around the neighborhood. The jacket kept me warm without being too hot. I wouldn’t wear it down into the 30s without another layer. I am 6’0” tall and weigh 220 pounds. My body type is right on the edge of a L versus XL. I have the Smartwool Men's Smartloft Jacket in a Large. For me, the jacket runs a little small. The product description states that it has a regular fit, but I would argue it feels like an athletic fit. It fits comfortably across the chest, shoulders, and arms, but is a little snug around the middle. The fabric has a good amount of stretch and moves with your body as you turn or bend. The sleeves are breathable while the wool insulation in the body adds a little extra warmth to your core. The thumb holes feel good on the hands but don’t bunch up when not in use. When in use, the thumb holes don’t stretch the sleeves across my shoulders or back. The jacket is lightweight and can be folded and rolled into a fairly small, packable size. This would make it great for wearing while traveling or adding to a bag as an easy layer. Overall, I would recommend the Smartwool Men's Smartloft Jacket. If in between sizes, size up.
I love this jacket! I keep finding ways to wear it differently - it works well as an additional layer under a windbreaker for those cold blustery days, but it also works on its own when I'm trying to stay warm in the house, garage, office, or basement. The chest portion is like a puffy vest, but the advantage here is the warm sleeves to keep your arms warm too. The bright yellow color is outside my normal comfort zone, but it looks great with everything - a really nice fall find!
It’s a great jacket. Perfect for Indiana winters. I really like the thumb holes. The additional layer keeps your hands warm. I like to use it for short runs. No really need for an additional layer down to about 25 degrees.
My Smartloft jacket is very comfortable for walks or runs. I made the mistake of overdressing the first time I ran with this jacket and got too warm. A regular long sleeve running shirt plus this was fine in 25°F conditions with little wind. No complaints. Would buy again.
This Smartwool jacket is the best winter running jacket I have worn. I am 6'1", 215 lbs, and the XL fits me perfectly. I love that the collar comes up high enough to keep my neck warm. The sleeves, which others have said are too long, are indeed long - enough so that I can use the thumb loops without pulling the sleeves and back of the jacket tight. That is a first for me. I have run with it in 20 degree weather (no wind) with a mid-weight layer and been perfectly toasty. My only criticism is that there is absolutely no reflective material on this jacket at all, making it a poor choice for road runners, especially on dark winter mornings and evenings. That is a critical feature and worth a star to me. Otherwise, a great piece of gear, just as I would expect from Smartwool.
I used this jacket on a couple of fall trail hikes and on a camping weekend in the desert. It worked well in the shoulder season nights to protect the core, sizing runs a little small, I had a large fit me though I am usually a medium
Smartwool Jacket fits great, very comfortable and warm. The wool makes a big difference very soft and warm.
