Excellent High-Quality Jacket
I received the jacket in the color 'Blue Tetra' and the color is true to as it is depicted online. As it stands as a shell, it works just as well as you would hope for snow sports. It has sufficient room in the pockets to hold what you need. There is a pocket on the left bicep that comes in handy when you need to scan your lift ticket. The hood is plenty big for a helmet and the sinch straps on the sides tighten the hood just right so that it doesn't bunch. I didn't have the matching snow pants but if you do, there are snow button in the snow skirt to attach them together to provide better coverage for when you wipe out. The armpit pockets are of adequate size to help cool you off if you get to hot. All in all, it's a very solid jacket and you won't be displeased.
Versatile jacket for front or backcountry pursuits
Arc'teryx quality is well known in the outdoor world but it wasn't till getting a chance to test out this jacket that it really hit home. With the Sabre jacket, they have made the simplest coat possible, keeping weight and any fail points to a minimum, while not sacrificing any important details. Wind and waterproofing are not an issue with the three layer gore-tex. The hood easily fits over a ski or bike helmet as would be expected but what is really impressive is that when it is cinched without a helmet, the brim stays flat and doesn't obstruct your vision. The Sabre also has what I believe to be required in a ski jacket, a powder skirt. This has nice details of having multiple adjustments and can attach to compatible pants/bibs. Multiple internal pockets were also nice for storing snacks for the lift and a zippered internal pocket was appreciated for more important items like keys and wallet. Long pit zips are available when ditching heat is important. There are also two large handwarmer pockets that are not so high as to make you feel like Napoleon when using them and an upper arm pocket for your pass. The external zippers are all sealed but still easy to zip one handed. Fit of the Sabre is roomy enough to choose your base layer depending on activity and temperature making it able to perform in a wide variety of conditions while avoiding being bulky. Overall, this is a great jacket that is lightweight and breathable enough for when you are moving fast (or uphill) that you won't roast, but still able to be used on colder days on the lifts.
Extreme Mountain-Ready Jacket. Mountainous Price.
This one's an investment in comfort and utility. I've taken the Sabre out on the town as well as down the trails, and while it comes at a high price I feel the investment is worth it. For reference I'm 5"6 and 155lbs/men's small, an off-track cross country/downhill skier, and I've learned long ago that safety, comfort, and tech are paramount to my adventures. The Sabre Jacket tics those boxes, but first I'll begin with the short list of ways the Jacket could be improved for me. I would like a place to securely mount an emergency beacon or walkie, particularly when I'm trekking light without a backpack. Next, the Sabre is a bit noisy, making fabric-crunching sounds with each movement. Finally, it's pricey, but the cost of this jacket comes with a set of features that, in my experience, warrant the expense. One of the features that stands out as exceptional is, of course, the N80-p X 3L GORE-TEX with DMR fabric coating. Noisy but effective. I rarely have to self-regulate body temp like I often have to do with other jackets. I found the StormHood offer an excellent field of view with no hinderance to my peripheral. That's good, because I'm more likely to hit what I can't see! What's more, the fit of the Sabre allows for varying and suitable internal layering options depending on your needs, without sacrificing movement. Lastly, the zippers are smooth and seal tight; the dump pockets are well-placed and functional; and Sabre will keep wind out and warmth and dryness in. All in all, I believe the Sabre jacket could be worth your investment--more so when you find it on sale :)
My "go to" for damp weather
This is a absolutely perfect outer shell layer in my mind. It's fit is comfortable, it is breathable, and exceptionally well made. The zippers are by far the highest quality I have ever seen on any jacket, and in my experience the pockets appear to be completely waterproof when zipped. There are more pockets than I have things to store, and all the pockets are large enough that I can put my huge phone in more than just one place. There are pulls to seal to your body at the waist, and multiple pulls on the generously sized hood so that it can be adjusted nearly any way you could want. If I had to say there is any negative about this jacket, I suppose it could be warmer. However, it is sized very well accommodate layering. not having it insulated makes it better for warmer weather as well as cold. I absolutely will reach for this before a traditional rain coat in warmer months.
Bright, Bomber, Blue!
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Really quality jacket, DWR has been holding up well, the zippers and snaps all feel bomber. I have the blue Tetra and it's a bit brighter of a blue in person than I expected. Not bad just worth a though, it's a very bright aqua blue. My only concern is that the sleeves are a bit fitted, which is no problem for day to day wear but might limit the layering depending on your shoulders.
Swiss Army knife shell kit
Finally bit on the arc kit and couldn’t be happier. Skied colder days just as well as warm spring days. Arc makes some Swiss Army knife shells and highly recommend the Sabre kit. I’m 5’10” 200lbs and xl in both fits me perfectly for layering with a bit of bagginess, as I prefer. Super pumped on the kit and should last me a very long time.
Awesome jacket
I bought this awesome jacket a couple weeks ago. Very pleased so far. Thicker than my previous beta Lt and I couldn’t go back now. It kept every flake of snow, every drop of water and every bit of wind off me. The sleeves do run long but in a good way (to go over cuffs on gloves.) I have no complaints.
Poor quality
Quality on the newer Sabre jackets are lacking. I have one from a few years ago that has been solid so I decided to get a new one for this year thinking it would be bullet proof like the old one; however after two wears on groomer days the seams around the pockets have ripped. Arc’teryx you are asking for a lot of money for subpar quality.
Great materials & features
I got this jacket after already loving this brand for the quality and designs of the products. My shell I've used for over 10 years that was issued to me while in the service finally started to fall apart from the inside causing me to need a replacement. Deciding on what to replace with was difficult, but decided on this sabre jacket. I love the design, features, and quality of the product. Only found 1 flaw, and that was the length of the sleeves. while the chest, shoulders, and upper arm fit perfectly. Then legnth of the sleeves were a bit excessive. I know being 5'7, I am not tall, but having a huge amount of excess made it a bit uncomfortable with gloves on.
Awesome Jacket
After narrowing down my search for a new ski jacket, I settled on the Sabre, considering the Beta AR, Rush, and Sabre SV. The deciding factors were the powderskirt and fleece liner for added warmth. With a height of 5'10 and weight of 160, I opted for a large, achieving a slightly oversized fit that I'm happy with. I'd give it 4.5 stars if possible. My only complaint lies with the waist hem adjustments—the plastic locks, while functional, they tend to loosen with pulling, feeling less sturdy. Also, the color options are disappointing! I almost chose a women's Sentinel jacket in Boxcar/Pytheas option, but they lacked the right size for me. (The women's large fits like a men's medium and was too tight in the chest.)
