Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I'm a retail footwear specialist at an outdoor supply co. The following is my own + customer feedback. The Torin 7 cuffs hit higher than the 6's and rub painfully on the lateral ankle bones (see photos for DIY fix). The shoe has a pronounced curved-last "Footshapeâ„¢" that is not the actual shape of most feet, so the feet migrate to the outsides, causing pressure on the pinky toes and gapping along the big toes. The wide option is still narrower than many other brands. Most people who need wide shoes need width at the metatarsal heads, not at the tips of the toes. During runs, the yawning heel cuff design collects tons of detritus. RECOMMENDATIONS: use a straighter last to better fit more feet; redesign ankle cuffs to be lower and softer, similar to Torin 6; streamline bulky achilles cuff to prevent collecting debris; provide more structure to fix foot laterally; if you insist on making only 1 color available in wide, make it black/neutral, not Smurf blue, and ditch the silly wave-design engineered upper-we're not schoolkids; use less slippery laces that don't so easily come untied.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] They are GREAT. The cushion in these shoes blows many other major brands out of the water. I would both recommend them and buy them again myself. Perfect for walking and running. Foot aches be gone!
Big fan of this shoe. I wasn’t too sure what to expect as I have not owned a pair of Altras before, but I came away very impressed. Out of the box this shoe was ready to run. The fit was perfect and a roomy toe box greeted my Neanderthal feet. The Torin 7 wrapped around my foot comfortably and I was particularly impressed with the heel lockdown and comfort. Sometimes I can experience some heel discomfort and hot spots but the flared heel cup was nice and held up over several pavements runs as well as some light hiking. The low heel drop was something I don’t typically run on and yet it felt extremely comfortable and natural. Now for the best part - the cushion in the Torin 7 felt amazing underfoot without feeling too bulky. They are VERY comfortable. So far, it has been a joy to run on and I anticipate these shoes holding up well over time. As a first time Altra runner, I was a huge fan of the Torin 7 I will be exploring their line again in the near future.
Purchased these Torin 7 back in November 2023 after trying them in person. Pictures are from end of January. Small holes starting to form on inner of toe box. Sole is still relatively unworn. Having had positive experience with other Altra running shoes, I was excited to discover these Torin 7 to be super comfortable, light weight and supportive. I thought they were one of the most stable pair of shoes I've ever worn. However, 2 months in I noticed visible holes forming near the inner portion of the upper. I am disappointed in the quality as I had a pair of Lone Peaks that lasted 5 years with no visible damage before the rubber sole wore out. Typically averaging 6-8 miles a week in a comfortable, small indoor office setting. I really loved these shoes but would not recommend anyone else to pay such a premium for a pair of shoes that have started breaking only after a few months of light wear.

I purchased a pair of these at the very end of Dec 2023 and used for road running in mild winter and spring weather. Since the shoes did last to about the 300-mile mark, I feel that three stars is a fair rating . The shoes had to be replaced after about four and a half months and 300 to 350 miles due to the upper starting to fall apart where the toes flex and the midsole starting to flake/crumble where it joins the upper. At this price point, even if the foam is impacted from mileage, I'd like to think that the shoes would remain in one piece if I tried to run with them for an extra week or two.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This running shoes are very confortable. when I'm running at a high pace around 3.45 km/min, they are very stable and i feel i can go faster. they are very light shoes. They are recommended to do a Marathon or Half Marathon or Ironman. I am going to use to do a Half Ironman in a couple of week because i feel very safety with them.
At about 110 in these. Really enjoying the comfort of the collar and tongue. The ego max stack is nice amount of cushion for my weekend long runs, but not too soft. Tread durability on the heel seems to be going thin quickly despite having a fairly balanced strike.
The shoes provided a very good cushioning. That's about the only positive thing I can say about them. On the negative side... There is something wrong with Altra sizing... I had Torin 5 and my size (8) was really tight. I replaced them with Altra 7 and they were way too big. On top of that Altra 7 developed holes in the heel area less than 120 miles in. Altra attributed that to the normal "wear and tear". I disagree with them as most of the rest of the shoes, including the sole, look pretty much intact. I have over 300 miles on my Brooks and they are still like new throughout.
Shoes are very comfortable and have a wide base for toes to feel like they can provide a stable base on rough terrain/road areas. The size ordered was a Men's 10 and they did fit but were a bit snug compared to other size 10 shoes. They don't feel like my toes are being squashed but not as much room as other shoes which means my feet are not sliding around in these shoes, nor are they too tight where they would rub and cause blisters. Plenty of grip from the tread on the bottom of the shoes give traction in dry/wet conditions.
Comfortable but poor quality. After +/- 25 miles of running, both shoes (on both sides of the foot) are experiencing a slight tear in the cloth material. I don't expect these shoes to last much longer. It's a shame because they've very comfortable, but I don't want to spend $140 on a pair of shoes that will only last 2-3 months.
