I got these gloves in Nov 2023 just in time for the 1st frost in Oregon. The biggest pros for me: with my index finger I can use the touch screen controls on my iphone ; they are waterproof; the cuffs are long enough to go over the sleeves of my jacket and keep snow from getting inside; and you can pull the strap on the wrist with one hand to tighten it. I have long slender fingers and the womens small fit perfect.
This is a nice glove. I won't get to use them as it is not winter yet, but I've tried them on several times and am looking forward to visits up north and then out west for skiing. They look nice, fit very well and unlike other mitten type gloves, had interior individual fingers, so it's almost a combination of the two styles (traditional glove and mittens). The one downside I can see is that these are so long and extend well beyond my hands by a good 3-4 inches that I won't be able to see my watch. I am not sure how much of a hinderance that is going to be but if I lived in the winter and was in a hurry (and wasn't able to access something like my phone) and could not see my watch that would annoy me. Again, time will tell and when I go skiing and am on the mountain and may need to meet someone it may change my opinion. Price wise, these seem to be very inexpensive and a great value.
Previously, I didn’t understand the point to “lobster mitts,” but now that I have them, I see that they do offer greater dexterity than regular mittens. These mitts have five-finger (glove) linings that feel very plush and comfortable, and I like having the feel of a glove rather than a mitten. I have worn these mitts for skiing on a day that was not too cold, and they kept my hands nice and warm. However, based on a long walk on a biting cold day, I don’t find them to be ideal for extreme weather. My fingers were quite cold after an hour outdoors. The mitts do fit well, and they feel very nice when I slide my hands into them. The faux leather on the palms gives you a good grip on things like ski poles or a snow shovel. One thing that’s missing is a retention strap. When you’re on a ski lift and need to take your mitten off for a moment, a wrist strap keeps you from accidentally dropping the mitt into a snow drift. This will keep me from using these mittens for skiing in the future, but they’re nice for other outdoor activities in the cold – just not extreme cold.
I received these gloves about 3 weeks ago and haven’t been able to give them a real world workout. I am from N central Pa and the weather has been rather mild. There have been a few mornings in the teens but only for an hour or so and I’ve worn them on dog walks. With that information in mind I will offer some observations. First, I have big hands and ordered XL’s. They are snug. When I have worn the gloves in the temps described I have been comfortable. I do think that if temps were colder and exposure was longer my hand would be cold. I love the quality, Adjustability, look and functionality of the gloves. The free index finger would be good for hunting which I do. Overall I really like the product and I only gave it 4 stars because of sizing. I would give it a positive recommendation.
We have not had enough snow in the mountains to get out and really put these split-finger mittens to the test under winter conditions yet. They are comfortable, with soft insulated padding inside. I was on an in-between size, and I went with the larger size and I'm glad, so I'd advise you to go for the size up if you too are on the fence about sizing. I wanted to try the touch-screen feature, and I could not get any response on my iPhone while wearing these mittens. The index finger seems to be fully insulated and protected by the glove, so I don't think these will work for a touch-screen like on the iPhone that depends on some body heat. I had to remove the mittens to use the screen on my iPhone. I also ran a stream of water over the mitten with my hand inside for several minutes, and the water-resistant shell seemed to do the job. It didn't seem like any dampness made its way inside the mitten. My final observation is that these mittens do have a long cuff, and depending on the jacket you are wearing, the mitten cuff and jacket sleeve may well overlap, and depending on how bulky your jacket is, it may not fit inside the cuff on the mitten. I got the size L mittens and there is enough space for a fleece-type jacket sleeve inside the mitten cuff, but anything bulkier probably would not easily fit.
These lobster gloves worked pretty well for a 4-hour snow fatbiking ride I did in 25F weather, although they weren't quite as warm as I would have liked or expected. Was definitely getting somewhat (but not unbearably) cold fingertips on the descents, although I am a wussy Californian. Not sure about the build quality; some of the stitching on one of the fingers has a hint threa of coming out but it could just be excess material
I used these for learning to snowboard in Colorado and they kept me warm and dry! I also really liked the lobster finger feature, I was able to easily adjust my bindings without having to de-glove. #RockLobster
Used twice, then had a hole at the tip of one finger in the inside. Was able to return.
Not as warm as I would like, even with liners! But the best bike glove so far.
