Backpack Strap Failure

I purchased the KÅNKEN WEEKENDER as my bag for a 3-week trip around Europe and it almost worked perfectly- but the backpack straps ripped off after 2 weeks of travel. I have the pictures timestamped in the metadata to prove the timeline. I was always able to close it properly and it fit perfectly under the seat in front of me on almost every plane- So I was really sad when the backpack straps ripped out of the top seam while I was walking through Lyon, France. The bag capacity itself was great - in two Eagle Creek compression bags I carried 2 pairs of pants, 1 sweater, 1 extra pair of shoes (wrapped in shoe covers) a few neutral T-shirts, and my toiletry bag. I was able to pack my canvas tote away into the outside pocket when budget airline employees were being picky. The bag would have been perfect if the backpack straps didn't fail. That's when I noticed - the Weekender backpack straps are not supported the same way as the classic Kanken bags- they look like they're less supportive than the mini. Online it says this bag should be able to last a lifetime- so I’m very disappointed that the backpack straps failed so quickly.

Awful quality

Terrible. The bag has broken within 1 month of purchase and I'm not even using it as a weekend bag just to take my laptop and lunch to work.

cute but started to break broke on first trip

I love everything about the bag but have to return it because the backpack strap started to rip and fray on the very first trip. Just had clothes in there & was only using as an airport carry on.

Straps are susceptible to wear and failure.

I bought this bag less than a year ago for its versatility as a backpack or shoulder bag. I used it for work and occasional travel. It’s one of the only bags that would fit my work laptop. Unfortunately in that time frame the backpack strap tore right where it connects to the bag. I think this is completely unacceptable that it would fail this quickly, under normal use.

Major Design Flaw

Received this bag for Christmas. The bag actually fits my needs very well… almost. In Fjallraven fashion, the minimalist design helps with simplicity but has just enough compartments that organizing was easy. The construction seems sturdy for the most part with both the handle and cross body strap very sturdy. Neither of these is the most comfortable, but I’ve had a number of Kanken bags and this was expected…. What was not expected was for the backpack strap to break on first use. Seeing that this is a weekender bag made for short trips, the load was not overly heavy, but the nylon strap gave way nonetheless. This is unfortunate, because until the straps broke, the bag had started to grow on me. Sadly, I will not be able to keep or recommend this bag until this flaw is fixed and I’m frustrated that I’ll have to find another bag when this was the one I wanted. It does seem that at least one other user has had a similar strap issue.

Horrifyingly awful

What a waste of my money. I have never had issues with kanken straps until now. I am on my way to my destination and received this bag yesterday. I was so excited to see that there was a shoulder/ backpack combo for travel and I have an international trip planned. WRONG. I put the backpack straps on my back and as I was going through security, I saw that one of the straps was totally half off of the seams. This was my first use and I probably had it on my back for like 15 minutes. What a waste of my money and what a scam. So not buy this, just spend your money on a proper backpack/ rucksack. I’m returning this bag and selling all my kanken products. I had to spend another 120 bucks at the airport to get new luggage so I don’t have to be scared of this kanken trash ripping at that same seam.

love all the different straps

Perfect as a carry on to go under the seat. What enticed me most to buy this bag was the options of all the different straps. I love that it can be hand held, used as a cross body, or backpack depending on the load and the need at the time. Extremely versatile. We used it on our trip to Europe and the backpack straps came in super handy when taking public transportation to and from the airport.

Fabulous backpack

Incredible bag pack, stable and comfortable like a hiking bag. Bought this before heading to uni, absolutely amazing bag for books laptops and gym bits and bobs. Pockets inside are fab for splitting things you use a lot and not. Really well water repellant, spilt a whole bottle of water on the inside and it barely leaked into the other compartments. Love it.

Awesome model, and multi functions for different p

I bought it last week, but I haven't used it yet... To my surprise the material isn't G1000 which looks manly and hard and Quick dry too. What I like is it can be used for 3 functions.. I am in my late fifties but still like fjallraven products, value for money, durable and fashionable... So far I love this kind,,, weekender
