Got this just in time for a rainy hike in the woods! Rain rolled right off and the jacket dried quickly once out of the rain. Love that it's longer than the normal raincoat! It's a lighter weight so perfect for late Spring to early Autumn. Zip pockets are great for keeping keys and phone dry. Side note, also used it on a cool morning as a lightweight jacket and it worked perfectly for that too!
I liked how lightweight this jacket is while being waterproof in a light rain. It is very versatile. I went out for a day in Park City, Utah. Temperature was around 65 degrees. I ran errands and went for a walk. In the middle of the day it started raining. I just put the hood up and continued with my day, no issues. When the rain stopped I decided to go for an hour walk. It was just perfect for a little warmth to start and end the walk with and then very light weight and compact when I wanted to store it in my backpack. On another occasion I was going to an event at a hotel in Reno, Nevada. It was dressy enough that I could wear it outside and yet have it with me for the event. I loved the blue color as well. I would have liked an adjustment to bring the jacket in around my waist, so it was a little form fitting.
This jacket is almost perfect for me and would most likely be perfect for most women. The Saragasso Sea color has a warmth and depth that is visually stunning. The cut is flattering and comes with a slightly tapered waistline without being snug or restricting in any way. I wear a size L and there's enough room to layer comfortably underneath if need be. The long style of this jacket ensures that your hips and backside stay dry and warm and the fact that it's windproof is the icing on the cake. The hood has ample room and the drawstrings both on the back of the head and around the collar let you keep the rain at bay. The collar also comes up to about your nose to really tuck in and stay dry. The waterproof seaming on the inside is sturdy yet flexible and done to perfection. You will not get wet in this rain jacket! To make this jacket an 11 out of an 11, all REI needs to do is add pit zips to offer venting when needed and add double-sided zippers on the hip pockets and a hang loop so that you can pack your jacket inside of your pocket and clip it to your pack for on-the-go weather protection. I was able to pack mine inside of one of the pockets but had to fiddle to get the zipper to close as it's only one-sided. This is a great jacket and I can't wait to see it rise to its perfected state!
Now that the late summer heatwave has ended I finally got to try out this jacket. Today was a beautiful fall day with rain predicted off and on all day. I wore a tech t-shirt underneath and was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't covered in sweat after moving around for hours. This jacket kept me completely dry all day. The drawstrings around the hood kept the rain off of my glasses, even with the wind gusts. I highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a lightweight waterproof jacket.
In the past, I’ve had trouble with long jackets fitting for both length and width (I’m 5’5”, about 145 lbs and usually size 6-8 in pants) so I ordered a medium in this rain coat. The jacket fits with room to spare, which will be nice for wearing over layers into the fall. The length is great to provide additional waterproofing and even though the sleeves are a little long for me, I like that they have velcro to tighten rather than elastic. All said, I would likely go with a small if I wasn’t quite so pear shaped!
I received this fabulous waterproof jacket for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. And I absolutely LOVE this product! The lightweight, color, tailored fit - it is really ideal for rain storms in summer - which we had here in NYC 3 days after it was delivered! It rained all Sunday night and all day on Monday and I was completely protected moving around the city, totally protected and dry and not overheated at all. The light fabric moves easily with you and the hood stays on even in strong wind because of the zipper and tailored fit. It's like it was made for me. It is really ideal for commuting in summer rainstorms and I know it will be great to have on camping trips too. I got a lot of compliments on it and my friends at yoga afterwork were jealous that I got as a product tester - they all wanted it! It is something that I would totally buy.
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Finally! A hip-length jacket that fits reasonably well, the hood stays where I put it, and I don't feel like I'm wearing a sauna. This has been my go-to top layer for walks on my local trails in this first week of November cool and rain and it's performed beautifully. The two-way zipper is a nice feature to have back - it seems like a lot of lightweight jackets have abandoned this feature and I missed it, especially when layering meant the jacket was too tight around my hips. Being able to unzip the bottom few inches makes all the difference in comfort when wearing lots of layers. It's also a big help when you need to add just a little bit of ventilation on warmish days. Let's talk waterproofing and not-a-sauna. I got caught out in a downpour while wearing this jacket. This was at the end of a long walk and I was warm and sweaty. Exactly the conditions when a jacket will become a sauna if you close it up. I zipped up, pulled the hood up, and continued on through the rain and ... no sauna! There are two things I would change about this jacket, and why I've given it four stars. The first is the "pocket vents" instead of pit-zips for ventilation. If I have stuff in my pockets, I want to be able to keep them zipped to keep my stuff secured. If I'm wearing a daypack, the waistbelt makes pocket-vents useless. The second is that I would like to see the hips cut a little bit roomier, even just 1/2" to an 1" more would make a world of difference. But I have a curvy build, so extra room is my most frequent request of designers.
Great lightweight travel raincoat. It covers my entire trunk area; only my legs are exposed to the rain. It folds up into its own pocket, and fits easily in the bottom of my backpack for my flight. I can’t wait to get going with this cute coat.
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I tested this jacket during a cold and rainy mid-September camping trip in Yellowstone N.P. It performed well as a lightweight rain jacket as well as a wind breaker, that is once I was able to zip it up. The zipper was very sticky, even after I lubricated it. There was no way I could quickly zip it, which limits its value when hiking/backpacking. The zipper is apparently designed to be waterproof without an external flap. I would much prefer a zipper that is easier to manage with a flap for rain protection. Lots of positives: I am a solid medium, but sometimes purchase jackets in a large to allow for warm layers underneath. My XeroDry GTX Long Jacket is a medium and I was able to comfortably wear it in cold rain with a thick fleece and a long sleeve shirt under it. Despite being worn all day, I remained comfortable all day with no moisture buildup on the inside of the jacket. I was able to pull the generous hood over my hoodie I was wearing underneath while watching Old Faithful erupt (worth the rain and cold). The color (Saragasso Sea) is spectacular; even nicer than it appears on the website. The unusual long length of the jacket was great in keeping my pant legs dry; a common problem with shorter jackets in heavy rain. Nice deep pockets, although the two pockets also have the only vents on the garment. I plan to work on the zipper, hopefully making it easier to zip. Other than the zipper, this is a well designed jacket for rain and wind. Given that none of the other reviews mentioned problems with the zipper, I do wonder if my jacket may have a defective zipper.
After conferring with REI customer service on the phone, I ordered a size large. Turns out I should have ordered a size XL, and an XL was not available. I never got a chance to give this jacket a try in the real world.
