Awesome

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely enjoy my life straw water bottle. Especially on vacation overseas where the water can be a bit questionable. This puts me at ease knowing that my water is being properly filtered and I am less at risk for a stomach virus of sorts. The stainless steel construction lets me know that it is sturdy and long lasting unlike its plastic counterparts. The filtration technology is impressive and I feel confident drinking from my bottle. Definitely recommend for every day use or for your traveling needs.

Use too specific...use tablets or a steripen

This is a well built, double walled vacuum water bottle, but there are a few draw backs that I'm not a huge fan of. One - the lifestraw is always engaged. Meaning it shouldn't be used as an everyday bottle and only for emergencies or in the back country where more traditional water purification techniques are not available. Two - like all lifestraw products there is no indicator showing when the straw needs to be replaced so one is always guessing if it is still in good enough shape to filter. Three - limited capacity for filtered water. In a situation where I filter water I generally need to filter several liters at a time and store. This has no capacity to do this and would only be good if one needed an immediate drink of water and couldn't wait 30min for tablets to work. A positive is that this is an instant method that removes larger particulates as well, so if your only source is a bit muddy or murky it works well. But if the particles are too big they tend to start clogging the pores a bit. So one should try to pre screen water before filling. Overall the product is very niche, and can only be extremely helpful in very certain circumstances. I would prefer to use a steripen, water tables (iodine or chlorine), or a traditional pump as they are much more versatile in how and when one uses them.

Good water bottle with filter that you can remove

Great vacuum insulated water bottle. It makes me feel secure knowing I can put water in here and what comes out is filtered and safe. Mind you, it filters out the water and bacteria, but will NOT work on viruses. Haven’t had time to take it out on camping trips or travel, but I’ve used it at home and it’s been great! If I don’t need the filter I can remove it and use it as a regular screw off top water bottle that keeps drinks cold, even on hot days.

Solid option, not for backpacking

This bottle is pretty good. It has a nice enamel finish on the outside and the screw cap to drink from is quicker that most, which is pretty cool. It works like a straw drink and the straw is the filter. I think just due to the durability and ease of use, I will be using this as my go-to for day hiking. For backpacking, I’ll continue to use my Katadyn Be Free bottle which is very similar but significantly lighter weight (also less durable than this one - looking foreword to reserving it for those trips). If you would have already packed a metal water bottle, then this guy is comparable AND filters water! I do also have a Grayl bottle which is also similar and lighter weight, but the ultra fine press-filter is a nightmare for so many reasons and this Lifestraw bottle is much easier to use and more reliable so far.

Convenient clean water!

I was skeptical that I needed this bottle at first, but after using it for several weeks, I’m hooked! So convenient to have on road trips when water sources are questionable and day hikes when you don’t want to haul all the water you’ll need. I’ve used it to filter water from gas station bathrooms -potable but not the tastiest - and mountain rivers. Unexpected bonus is that it makes it easy to share clean water with my 1 year old. I probably won’t use backpacking but it’s great for every day use. Like most insulated bottles it doesn’t fit well in smaller cup holders and occasionally when I open it after an elevation change a little water spills out the top, but it’s not a big deal.

Great insulated filter bottle

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. This water bottle is built solid, seals tight, doesn't leak, and definitely keeps water cold. I haven't tested it with pond water yet or water with visible solids, but it does a great job removing tastes and odors from water from spigots at parks. Changing the filter is a simple twist and pop and there's no guessing involved - you can't drink from the bottle anymore when the filter is spent. Maybe a little inconvenient if you're in the middle of a trip but you'll never have to wonder if the water you're drinking is safe! The LifeStraw bottle is a little bigger and heavier than a regular 32oz water bottle but it's insulated and has a filter so the trade-off is worth it. You drink through a nozzle instead of a large opening which takes some getting used to, but the nozzle doesn't leak and you won't waste any of the filtered water. Plus you'll drink at a slower, more controlled speed rather than in big gulps. I don't know if this will make the cut for longer backpacking trips because of the weight but the LifeStraw bottle will be a regular addition to my daytrip gear.

Never question your water source again

The idea of a water bottle that filters is incredible for anyone traveling and doing outdoor activities. First of all its a great looking water bottle. Sturdy metal and a great o-rings to ensure you won't have any spills. Setting up the bottle is a little confusing as the directions could be better about how to treat the filter before your fist use. The straw requires an aggressive amount of suck to get water but makes sense as you are drawing water through a filter. The internal guide for maximum fill is helpful to avoid spills. Overall the bottle is great for constant travelers and the outdoors where you have some concern about where you are getting water from. However, I wasn't wild about how hard it was to get water out of.

Sleek Bottle, Tasty Water, Some Effort Required

The first thing I noticed about the LifeStraw Go Series Stainless Filter Bottle was that it comes in sustainable and recyclable packaging, and beyond that, it is manufactured in an environmentally conscientious manner with high quality materials that feels great to hold and has a sleek look. The water bottle itself is 24 ounces, vacuum insulated, and has a built-in filter to remove taste and odor from tap water. The filter works very well and makes the tap water from the galley at my work perfectly tasteless and pure, which normally it is not. The bottle has a double lid: one for filling the bottle, and one for sipping out of. The sipping lid also features a sizable handle that easily fits at least three fingers for carrying. The lids, if both screwed on tightly, are leak-proof; however, the straw-filter is not spill-proof if the handle-lid is not in place and the bottle tips over. Another amazing perk of this water bottle is that for every bottle purchased LifeStraw a child in need will receive safe water for a year. While stylish and functional, the bottle disappoints in a couple ways. First, it is too large for most car cup holders that I tried to fit it in. Also, due to filter-as-you-drink design, the bottle requires using strong-than-usual sucking to get water out of the straw-filter. Furthermore, the suggested use instructions advise drying the straw-filter’s sippy nub entirely before re-capping, which is highly unlikely, if not impossible during normal use, and may reduce the cleanliness and life of the product.

Good travel bottle

I’ve traveled with this water bottle for a few weeks now and overall, I like it. Starting with some things I like, it’s a good-looking water bottle and is very well made. It’s well insulated and kept the water cold. It also does its job of filtering the water. For the first time ever, drinking water out of the airport fill-up stations tasted good and I was not worried about how clean the water was coming out. The oversized handle is nice for carrying and to put the strap through on my backpack, so I did not lose it when storing it. There were two things I noticed that are cons with this water bottle, the biggest being it leaks out of the straw when it pressurizes. Several times I ended up with a wet lap. There is a warning about this in the instructions, and on a plane, I can understand but it happened several times in a car while driving. I started cracking open the bottle itself before removing the straw cover to depressurize and that worked, but it adds an extra step. The other drawback is the straw requires quite a bit of effort to drink from. I would not want this to be my only option while exercising or doing something outdoors. I don’t think the drawbacks outweigh the benefits of drinking clean water that tastes good, but they are there. This has become my go-to travel bottle.

Great in theory- less great in function

I liked the idea of this water bottle for travel and while the filter functions well, the use of the water bottle isn't great. It's hard work to suck the water out - like I need to focused to not hurt my cheeks while doing it. Opening and closing the bottle to refill, is awkward because it easily opens the place to drink out of. And finally, you cannot pour water out of it - so you cannot filter and use for cooking or to add water to something else. You can only drink directly from it.
