These replaced a pair of Panaracer GK SS+ tires. I liked the GKs but felt disappointed by their longevity (replaced after ~1500 miles of combined touring and city commuting). I assumed the Pirellis would be a little slower rolling but better suited for an upcoming tour that will feature about 60/40 asphalt and gravel. Since installing the Pirellis I've been on a couple of 20mi+ rides and a century. Here are my observations: Easy install. The whole setup took 10 minutes with a single lever, a hand pump, and a Schwalbe Tyre Booster. The Panaracers were always a bit finicky to seat on my WTB rims, so the painless install was welcome. The Pirellis are stiffer than the Panaracers but also much more comfortable. At 35psi the GKs had a bit of bounce. The Pirellis have a more structured feel, which I assumed would increase chatter. On the contrary, these tires do an amazing job of silencing road noise while tightly gripping the pavement. The dampening quality is hard to explain but welcome. It gives a feeling of both better handling and increased comfort. The Pirellis feel fast—much faster than the GKs. They get rolling and keep rolling. The rubber compound is aces—beautifully composed—and makes these such a pleasure to ride on long stretches of smooth pavement. On hardpack gravel the ride is sprightly and reassuring. On loose/deep gravel these fare so-so, which is about what I expected. $85 per tire is not cheap, but these surpassed my expectations. I feel Pirelli deserves credit for what they've done with this product. Bravo!
