Needed a pair of warmer gloves to wear under my cycling gloves for winter biking. These fit the bill of being thin enough to still allow my cycling gloves to fit over them without being too tight and cutting off circulation. The real bonus with these gloves is that I can use my Apple Watch touch features without having to remove the gloves. I didn’t know this at the time that I bought them so this was a nice surprise. I’ve worn the gloves in 35 degree temps and they do the trick. I’m not toasty warm but comfortable enough to do a long ride.
As an old California climber and early manager of the Berkeley North Face, I’ve long had an attitude about REI products. So I beleive it’s important to say that these gloves are also the best REI product I’ve ever owned. Amazingly comfortable, they’re perfect for someone living at altitude and no longer driving a vehicle with a heated steering wheel. They have the perfect amount of grip for the slickest of wheels. And I was delighted to discover that that they work admirably on touch screen electronic devices. Price was right, color excellent (carmine), so it was a slam dunk which has kept its promise. Good job, REI!
My number one complaint is that the friction grips fall off super easily. I've used these gloves extensively over the past year camping, hiking, mountaineering, and skiing, and I continue to find the little diamond shaped rubber grips in all of my gear. I'm sure I've littered them all over the backcountry as well. I can't believe how poor the build quality is regarding those grips, and I also can't believe that these gloves are so highly rated. Otherwise, they're fine, though I wore through the fingertips of a few fingers on each hand within 6 months of use (though I tend to do that to all my lightweight gloves).
Great pair of gloves! I bought these as a liner to wear under a larger pair for cycling. They have kept my fingers warm enough in temps down to 30 degrees, that I didn’t need to put on my outer gloves. Which is perfect b/c my hands didn’t get sweaty and when I did put on a wind proof glove, my hands stayed toasty on descents. These will let air in since they are fleece, they’re not wind proof, but these are the warmest fleece gloves I’ve ever used. As I said, they kept my fingers comfy at 30 degrees and that’s while riding at 15+ mph. The grippy material on the inside of the palms offers good traction for handlebars or a phone. And they work well enough with a touchscreen that I could still use my phone while riding with these gloves on.
The gloves are fine for warmth in mild conditions, but they really aren't great for touchscreen functionality. On my first Sierras trip with them I was constantly taking them off to access my gpx map on my phone, which was a hassle and left me with cold hands. They also stick to Velcro which isn't ideal for gators or getting ice axes out from their keepers on the pack. I'm considering a return.
The fit of this glove was great for me but I ran into several issues. It does not work well with touchscreens all the time. Also a seam opened within 4 weeks of use, and the grips on the palm flake off with any meaningful friction. For me driving a car with a leather steering wheel was enough to cause this to happen
Stretchy, warm, but not too warm. Comfortable fit. But the grippers flake off the fingers way too soon
Just the right weight and thickness for an early Seattle spring, even when the temp dropped to 35 degrees. The touch sensitivity for my phone is a blessing.
Lost my gloves and was thrilled when I found these by REI. Fit well, comfortable to wear and keep my hands warm. Recommend them.
Indestructible and multiuse! I walk, hike, shovel and work with them on- flexible and easy to wear.
