This was a disappointment. For a price tag of over 200 dollars and claiming to be a hiking shoe it did not even survive 6 months without damage. The shoe was light and comfortable but I have had hiking shiws which are light comfortable and sturdy enough to last 2 years before this one.
Pretty comfortable for a waterproof mid hiking boots, actually! I would've loved to wait and get the evergreen. But, I urgently needed it and so had to get Hazy Gray, which was the only one in stock in-store. I had previously, unintentionally got some boots that were 0.5 size lesser and been using it for about a year, not knowing it was causing me harm. It struck me only late and I had to get new ones, even though the old ones were still in good shape. So far, I did only 1 12 miles hike and I find these to be pretty good! Nice fitting, comfortable and love the grip. I hope that these will have a long life.
I liked the improved abrasion resistant soles as Sawtooths I've been wearing don't last long. However, I knew there might be a problem as soon as I took them out of the box. The toes were bent up and the lining of the boots was crimped. I thought it would stretch out with a little wear. But it hasn't. I've hiked about 25 miles in them and used shoe trees to try to get the material to stretch but it hasn't and continues to pinch over the top of my feet.
I got these in Hazy Gray and have had them since ~september. They've done well in the winter, providing traction on wet/slick surfaces and they fit my foot well. They are waterproof-ish and as a result not as well ventilated as other oboz options, so I would probably skip these for summertime when it's really hot/humid. My foot is probably a "typical" width in a size 12, so I cannot comment on issues that others are seeing re: width. I wear these 75% of the time that I have shoes on. I switched to oboz a few years ago when merrell quality fell off a cliff. I've been a lot happier with the footbed on the oboz line, in general.
I've been a longtime Oboz enthusiast and this is my 10th pair. I've grown used to two things from Oboz: 1) roomy toe box, 2) boots feeling broken in and ready to go right out of the box. This product does not reflect either trait. Im wearing them around the house to see if they will stretch width-wise and feel broken in, but if not, this pair is going back.
I bought these in size 13 just before a 22 mile backpacking trip through the Linville gorge. I had barely any time to break them in, not that they needed it. These are so light and comfortable that I had absolutely no blistering or even sore spots after the trip. on top of that. I forgot my extra changes of socks, so I was wearing the same pair of socks, the entire trip. Still no issues. I have a narrow heel, so I tend to slide up against the toe of my boots when going downhill. These were not too wide, and I didn’t have that problem at all.
THE best waterproof hiking boot I've ever owned. For about 5 months, this lightweight, great fitting super dry, sticky soled boot was the best! Until it wasn't. Around month 5, maybe earlier, it developed cracks in the outer membrane/fabric that let the water gush in. So disappointing! I returned them, got another pair thinking maybe they improved this area. Nope, same thing several months later. Less than 400 miles on these. Maybe I'm unrealistic, but for 190 bucks I expect more than 400 miles.
I have bought and loved all my Oboz for almost a decade and have worn the Midnight Black Bridgers for my job as a firefighter/paramedic for years and bought these to replace them but walked away very disappointed. I love the look/design and the aggressive grippy tread but the boot is much more narrow than other pairs of Oboz and toe box was too small. Would be a great boot if the fit was closer to the Bridger or the Sawtooth.
I bought these to have a more sneaker-like lightweight and waterproof hiker. I tried on many other similar ones at the REI flagship store and settled on these as the most comfortable, plus good experience with a mid-weight pair of Oboz. Broke these in on a rainy day 16 mile hike to Snoqualmie Lake. Worked as advertised, fit was good, feed stayed dry in the puddles and shallow stream crossing. No chafing or hot spots. Time will tell on the longevity.
Great lightweight hiking shoe! nice cushion and comfortable fit. Great for fast hikes or lightweight backpacking trips!
