Bought today. Returned tomorrow.
The way Sea to Summit packages these makes them more susceptible to failure. I purchased an 8L and a 20L today. They both have a plastic strip across the top to assist with rolling and closing of the bag. When testing their fitment for an upcoming trip, I was having an issue packing the 8L. In trying to flatten out this plastic piece, it snapped inside, and created a sharp corner that will only wear away the bag from the inside. I then examined the 20L, and I see that the plastic strip inside of that one is already stressed from being folded so that Sea to Summit could save on packaging.
NOT a real dry bag
Item says to use TWO bags to make it fully waterproof. WHATS THE POINT OF IT BEING A "DRY-BAG"?? Would not recommend.
Caution removing tags
When not damaged, will keep contents dry. I’ve purchased four of these (varying sizes) over the years. One aspect of product design that is lacking is sewing the large tag on the inside of the bag, not using tags that tear free (without scissors) and asking the user to cut the tag free. I’m always careful, but with this most recent bag the thin fabric folded over on itself and was cut with the scissors. REI won’t replace due to use/abuse — which I get — but better product design could prevent issues like this.
Great for day hike snacks!
I have always used a 3L dry sack for storing my snacks in on day hikes. It works really well for me especially since I have all my things in different colored dry sacks for organization. I had to order a new one as I had beef angus sticks in my previous bag and left it out. My dog unfortunately thought it would be fun to investigate this the need for a new sack. Yes, the beef sticks were that good 👍 lol!
Do not submerse!
Light weight and handy but BEWARE…..cannot tolerate submersion! So it will protect against some rain but not if your canoe or kayak flips groing through a rapid!
Ultra-Sil Dry Bag
These bags are very versatile. I’m not a camper nor a hiker. I bought them to stow wet/dirty laundry when traveling. Recently I was very thrilled to use the 5 liter bag to transport ice packs and cold beverages for a school field trip. It’s not meant to keep the items cold but it prevented the “sweat” from getting the other items I was carrying in my backpack from getting wet. These would be great for a day at the beach or the pool. If you want to have items safe from a drop in the water, you must be sure to roll down the top at least three times, squeezing out the air as you go and then secure the buckle. I bought several for family members as well because I was so pleased with the bags I bought. For me, the 8L is a better size for my post vacation dirty laundry.
fabric failure
Generally, I love Sea-to-summit products. After using the 8 litre roll-top UltraSil dry bag on less than a dozen trips, the fabric tore apart with seemingly little force and no undue strain. I enjoy UL gear but I must now steer away from dry bags with such weak fabric.
Everything’s Still Dry
500+ packed out miles on this bag and works in every instance.
Very convenient dry bag
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got this dry bag and I am so happy I did because I have been able to use it when traveling to the beach and performing wet activities. I am able to place all my things in this bag and keep them dry and organized inside this pack. Its lightweight, comfortable and very convenient. I would highly recommend it.
Dissappointed with durability
The material is extremely thin and light weight. My bag ended up with a small tear after just one use. It was easy to fix with some repair tape, but still a little disappointing. The bag is waterproof and very close to airtight.
