Amazing bag with one annoying issue
I’ve had the older version of the Raptor 14 and have loved it for years. Amazing bag for hiking and biking. The new bag is very similar to the old bag with upgrades in fabric that seems easier to clean. I’ve looked at other styles and have always come bag to this bag. One major issue from Osprey is the plastic sternum strap. These are IMPOSSIBLE to replace the plastic buckle on the rigid piping. If this breaks on your bag, they replace the piece easily but getting it back on the piping is nearly impossible. Outside of this plastic sternum buckle, I love this bag.
perfect for shorter hikes
first hydration pack i've purchased and i love it. requirement for future hikes. purchased for shorter, <5 hour hikes, and it was the perfect size. Keeps moisture away from your back and is still supportive.
Better bike bag than I knew existed
This bag is expensive, but it is awesome. It has features I never knew I needed like the tool compartment and the hydration bladder compartment with a really easy hose zipper. It can hold a lot in relatively small space and with really useful pockets. It stays close to your back, the straps tighten down nicely, and the weight does not flop around at all. It is just a great design with high quality fabric and zippers.
Great Pack
I love my hydration pack. I've been a longtime fan of the Osprey packs and recently decided to go to the slightly larger Raptor 14. I much enjoy the extra volume, and as expected the bag is very stable while I'm the trails. The only thing that I hate is that the magnet for the bit valve will not stay connected at all!
I recently tried the raptor
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the raptor 14 update. This pack has some very cool new features that set it apart from the older edition. The hydration bag connection to the pack itself has a slip and lock feature that makes the hanger secure, and the tube and bite valve are ported through a zipper sleeve to the user. A continuous stretch pocket runs along the exterior of the pack that allows for small and large gear to be tightened down with a cinch down pull strap. A roll out tool bag that can also be handy for first aid. This bag is definitely the brain child of an active user.
Fantastic Backpack
I am entirely delighted with Raptor 14. So far it has met or exceeded all of my expectations. It boasts an array of features, none of which are exaggerations. The Airscape Back Panel and Winged Shoulder Straps provide an unexpectedly comfortable, unencumbered fit. The Tool Pouch/Pocket is also great. The pack integrates several other pockets and stash spots, some even seemingly hidden. I appreciate that particular feature in a backpack. Previously, I had utilized a CamelBak Mule. The Mule had been my daily pack for several years. I had also considered a Black Diamond Distance 22. But the absence of a hip belt made it an imprudent choice for my use. I'm finding the Raptor 14 is not only a stellar bike pack. It has also been great for daily outings when I venture without my bike. I am unable to distinguish any negative attributes. The Raptor 14 has been a fantastic addition to my backpack arsenal.
Well made, flawed design and backward step
Pack is well made and fairly comfortable. I bought to replace an old Raptor 10, and to be honest I’m disappointed with some of the features (lack of). Most annoying thing is there are no strap buckles so the loose ends just flap around for the shoulder and waist, my old 10 had a sliding buckle system that kept them out of the way. I get the impression the designer doesn’t ride a bike. There’s no padding in the internal pocket so e. g. phone can get scratched by the hard plastic on the reservoir. The front pocket is really awkward to access due to the side only zip. My old bag was 10 years old, and loved the clever design touches so I had no hesitation buying another, but didn’t realise how many corners were now being cut. Still 3* for build quality and comfort but falls short for me
Great pack
I carry enough tools and bits to be able to ride home in case of most mechanical issues, and this pack is a good size for that. It's also compact enough to not feel floppy. Taking a star off for the paper-thin Osprey hydration bag, which sprung a pinhole leak. Also, Osprey hydro bags give a strong plastic taste and smell, even a couple years later and after I've tried mitigating it by soaking vinegar and other methods. Otherwise, the pack is my favorite of *many* I've tried over the years.
Great except bladder
This is my 3rd raptor. Love the pack keeps getting better. The bladder is a PITA to fill so I use an old camelback one. Loose the zip top add a functional handle and you’ve got a great product.
Fits nicely, good compartments, tube too short
Love the way it fits, I primarily use this as a day hiking bag just because I prefer the fit on the shoulders as a tall woman. There are plenty of good storage options. The one issue is the hydration tube is too short and pokes me a bit in the neck and if I bend over / squat down to look at stuff, it pops off the magnet. Especially if I have it packed rather full. Also when the bladder is full it sits a bit pear shaped and I get pretty sweaty at the low back
