TLDR: Very comfy, easy to
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] TLDR: Very comfy, easy to organize. Worth buying. I’m picky. It’s an awesome day pack that helps you store all the essentials and nothing more in the best way possible. I absolutely love the keychain holder as it makes hours of searching for keys a thing of the past. Wearing the Siskin honestly felt like wearing nothing at all to me at least. The straps and back are very comfortable for hours of riding. There is one thing I was not the biggest fan of however. I don’t like the straps holding the shove-it pocket in place. It makes reaching for tools and other stuff in the lower compartments in the zippered portion a hassle to get to. I kind of wish the straps were on the flap itself so they didn’t have to be in the way. If the straps had to be out that wide to make the straps usable, I think a good experiment for the development team to try is to design the Siskin with the side walls on the flap part instead of the back of the pack. It may not look as sleek that way, but I figured it might be worthwhile thinking about. In the meantime, I think I will survive with getting used to it as the shove-it pocket has saved me a couple of times because I’ve forgotten to account for a couple extra items before. In conclusion, the Siskin 8 has become my edc cycling pack no matter the type of riding the day has in store for me. The storage compartments make it easy to organize and its great for carrying everyday essentials on the trail. Given the opportunity to start over my purchase, I’d still buy the Siskin 8.
This is the third osprey
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the third osprey hydration pack I’ve bought trying to find something that suits a day (or half-day) hike and still has room for trail mix, a light jacket, headlamp, extra layer, sunglass case, legs from convertible shorts, etc. An 11 seemed too big but 8 is def too small. There’s room for almost nothing. Wish they’d build these with some genius expansion for days where the weather is questionable and you need to bring more than just the water.
I would NOT buy this product again!
Bought this for mtn biking so I need space for basic tools, 7idp/Sam Hill pro, protein bars and bike jacket. I don't pack a lot but this pack is not useful for much more than not much. I thought the 8 litre designation referred to the cargo capacity. it seems to refer to the total space the pack inhabits. I lost the nipple on the first ride, then the bladder sprung a leak near the top (but not on the seam). Ya, not impressed! Money not well spent.
Amazing pack for biking
Super nice quality, typical Osprey product where you keep finding nice and clever details as you use it. It's a perfect balance for size and utility for a day ride with the flexibility to carry a couple extra items and still barely notice it on your back.
Nice pack, hate the hydration system
Picked up this pack for short day rides where not much needs to be carried. The capacity and organization work good for having a place to throw a shell and carry a snack and a few other essentials, but the hydration system is terrible. For starters they could have made the zipper opening a few inches larger and it would have made all the difference regarding slipping the bladder into place. As it is the bladder needs to be wrestled in. The attachment to tie the top of the bladder up is another point of poor design. I don't have large hands (thank goodness), but the tiny little buckle has to be threaded into a tiny little hole in the top of the bladder and is so ridiculously frustrating I can't imagine trying to do this if you had large hands, let alone even one with small hands. On top of this the bite valve began leaking within a couple of months of limited use (using the pack a couple of times a week). I have used hydration packs for well over twenty years and have never had one go out this quickly. In fact, I am replacing it with a bite valve from my Camelbak bladder. As stated, I like the pack, but with the bladder issues I would not recommend this pack and will be looking for an alternative and pass this on to the thrift store writing off my loss.
