Perfect for the PNW
Excellent tires for the changing conditions in the PNW. From dry and loamy to wet and muddy, these tires have performed well for me. So good that I've put them on both my MTBs.
First serious set of MTB Tires...
Bike: Trek Allant 8s I recently discovered that I can take my Allant 8s off onto the trails and that made me want to invest in some serious MTB tires as the Allant had a set of slicks. I rode yesterday for six miles and instantly felt the improvement on the dirt path. I am not a pro MTBer but they met and exceeded my expectations on the trail. Was able to go fast with great control. They were aired to what I typically use on the street and know that if I were to air down to MTB tire ranges, that these tires would handle anything I throw at them (again, I am no pro). The one thing is that there is a noticeable difference in rolling resistance compared to the slicks which is to be expected. Ideally I would like to have two sets of wheels for each use case but this will be the compromise for now. With that said, commuting is gonna be for sure slower and with more effort. Again, this is to be expected. I did some math and I am losing about 24% efficiency compared to the slicks (based on battery levels before and after my six mile ride and distance traveled, this also riding the bike on the dirt trail so probably closer to 20 on tarmac only). Obviously most people are going to put these tires on dedicated MTB set ups so it shouldnt matter.... Overall, I am extremely happy with the performance of these tires for what I wanted them for. Yes I am losing an appreciable amount of range on my ebike but I gain the ability to go anywhere I want and more control.
