Pretty much perfect for under a ski helmet
I'm a bald guy, so hats are an important part of my kit in all seasons. I found that my Smith Vantage helmet got a little uncomfortable throughout the day on the slopes, so I was looking for something thin but warm and comfortable to wear under my helmet instead instead of going the balaclava route which can be too warm for certain conditions. I tried a couple different beanies like this one and landed on the Smartwool option. I have a pretty average sized head for a guy and I'd say its just about the perfect size for what I'm using it for. I also find it plenty warm for when I'm taking a break from skiing and sitting outside without my helmet on. If I were to change anything I might add just a little more stretch to the material and a slightly more snug fit. It feels just a little loose and could benefit from being squeezing my head just a little bit.

This hat is like a bag of chips...
Ever feel like your paying a third more for a bag of chips that has half what it used to? Yep...sad to say, Smartwool is riding this trend for sake of improved profit. I've been buying this hat for years to keep my bald head warm. This years' version is like wearing women's panty hose on your head. Not even worth the effort to put it on. So long to what was a good product. Oh...and I gave up chips too!

Perfect for bike riders

For my purposes this beanie is perfect. I was looking for something to put under my bike helmet that was comfortable and would protect my head and ears from the sun. It is a bit too big but it is what I wanted as it also covers my ears and a bit of the back of my neck. If I wasn't using it for the purpose I mentioned, then I would say the size is too big for an average sized person.

great for post-chemo

I was looking for a thin, warm beanie I could wear after cryotherapy post-chemo that was loose enough to gently pull on my head without disturbing my hair. I know, weirdly specific needs right? But this little cap really fits the bill. I have a conehead so maybe that's why it works so well for me but I see others mention it fits very loosely. I'd give it a go if for no other reason than it can fit in most any small pocket so is very compactable and is really warm.

Perfect little cap!

My 1st thought was, this little cap aint much! But it is just right. Some said it didnt fit right, didnt cover the ears. My husband loves it and has worn it nonstop for days now! He is quite picky. Although it is thin, it packs a warm punch. I think it might be perfection as the minimalist cap. It's the Happy Noggin winner!

Fit on head

It stretches out of shape after awhile when you wear it. Needs some elastic

Number 2

Replacement for an older version that was 100% wool. This one has some nylon in the mix. It may improve its durability. The four color squares make it easy to tell front from back. I blacked out the cowboy with a sharpie. SmartWool can pay me if they want my head to advertise their goods.

If you fancy wearing underwear on your head...

If you fancy wearing underwear on yout head, then this is the hat for you. It is made of similar fabric to a medium weight base layer and looks like it. I have neither a big head nor big hair, and it won't cover my ears. Not the hat for me!

very thin

Poor product. Super thin, feels more like stretchy shirt fabric than merino. Had purchased similar Smartwool beanie two years ago and was more substantial (albeit reversible so maybe two layer). Not looking for a “warm” hat but this one offers nothing. Barely covered my ears as well. Knew I’d return the second I opened the package.
