They worked great. The wrist straps occasionally loosened, but are very adjustable. I used them all day every day for three weeks. The basket on one came unscrewed once. They never loosened as far as height goes and never broke. I know there's more expensive ones, but unless they cook breakfast or something I don't know what the difference would be. Weight I suppose, but I never thought " Man, these poles are heavy". Spend the extra money elsewhere like on a lighter tent or sleeping bag. Buy these poles and get going.

I bought these pole for an upcoming trip to Scotland. When I got them home and adjusted the length, one pole collapsed on itself. It just wouldn't hold being extended. I tried to exchange it, but all the other pole sets had the same design flaw. So I bought another, alas, more expensive design.

Worked... until they didn't.

Well, these hiking poles were great until they snapped. Hiked the Italian Dolomites this last summer with the hiking poles, took somewhat of a slip on a rock and studied myself with my right side hiking pole like one usually would, and the bottom (thinnest) piece of the metal hiking pole bent and snapped! I guess I put too much force on it? Either way, very disappointed with the hiking pole's performance under basic stress. I am 205 lbs. No refund from REI as "this is what the poles are designed to do when you put stress on them..."

Great trekking poles for long distance hikes!

I uses these poles hiking the West Highland Way in Scotland. They worked great! My MIL used another, more expensive brand of poles and one of hers broke during our trek. These held up beautifully and I used them on the entire hike with zero issues! I am sure they will last for many more treks!

Inaccurate claims on tags

The trekking poles are what I expected, but the cardboard label attached to the poles states that "The cork grips even with sweat, the straps are padded and the lock is oversized for quick and easy adjustments". What??? The grips are actually EVA foam and the straps are (unpadded) nylon! Only the last claim is true. I bought these online, so I knew in advance that I was getting foam grips, but if displayed in a store, such inaccurate claims on equipment would border on fraudulent. I'm new to REI, and honestly, I'd feel more comfortable with your products if you could at least get the tag labels right. Aside from that issue, the poles appear to be good quality for the price, and easily adjustable.

REI Trekking Poles

Hiking poles, pretty basic, like these because of the locking clamps opposed to the twist locks which end up slipping. These were $79 vs. $199 the only difference i could see was aluminum vs titanium and foam vs cork....before this i used a stick 🤷‍♂️

Great product, facilitated healthy winter hiking

Very happy with this product. I have bad knees, alittle rickety at 71 but not so much to justify knee replacement. But I love hiking. I outfitted myself with these sticks for winter hiking this year for the parks near me that have hilly wooded terrain and lots of trails. They have made my hikes wonderful in all kinds of winter weather & temperatures. No falls. No injuries. My knees have stayed healthy. And I’ve have lots of peaceful hikes.

Held up great in Very Tough Terrain

Bought these based on price. I had a pair of much more expensive Leki brand poles and needed a 2nd pair of hiking poles. In the months since, I've used these REI brand poles on several big hikes in rugged terrain and they are great. I've had to really rely on them, putting my weight on them on countless seriously sketchy downhills, and for lots of rock and boulder scrambling. The only reason I deducted a star was because the foam handle seems to make my hand sweaty in the heat. The cork handles on the more expensive brands stay cooler and dryer. I would definitely recommend the REI Coop brand here.
